Hi! I was Beryl the Wizard in Harmonium, Rising Ascension, and Altera Vita. I'm not sure I ran across you in my travels, but you might have been after my time. I played from launch until I left for DAOC at the end of 2001. I was wondering if any of my old guildies/friends were thinking about trying a reboot of our time in EQ. The P99 server matches my exact time playing and I was curious to see if any of the OG's were coming back.

Ahh Harmonium! Was Rokx the Shaman in Harmonium back when Velious released. I remember Altera Vita being the closest competition at the time.

Tarkhis DE Necro at the time from Povar too. I remember you in Harmonium, I joined when Shards of Valor merged with them just before they left the server. I ended up going the Crimson Tide, NA, FU, Triton route and didn't do RA but good to see a fellow old timer again.

Ahhh some folks I remember. In the early days we had a lot of smaller guilds and we all worked together to take down Naggy, Vox, and, Caz for the first couple of months. Only later would we decide to form two super guilds, Harm and RA, but we all knew each other and got along really well.

In all seriousness, hello Povar people, I recognize some of your names, and definitely remember our shared server histories. If you remember me, I'm sorry. I like to think I've grown up a bit since Xeffo the Reaver. (ps which one of you bastards made a Xeffo character? do i have a superfan? a superenemy? or could it be the infinitely small chance that somebody also randomly generated a halfling name, Jeffo, and replaced the J with an X because it was more edgy?

I haven't really decided if I'm gonna commit to playing but if I end up choosing this masochistic foray down nostalgia lane but if and when I do I'd like to offer my services as a level 1 troll shadowknight capable of pulling Temple of Veeshan. /t xeffu hi!

One last thing; do dropped items work on this server? It was a great creative outlet.

Money won't drop, but other items do. Its actually a pain if you like to do ground drops of money.

Haven't though about RA/AV and the server split in a looong time. Some people want to raid and try to compete with other servers, and some people don't want to get that serious about a game. I'm sure a lot of us are somewhere in between but in retrospect I think Povar might have suffered from Too Many Cooks. Triton wanted to be the shit, we RA nerds and housewives said hey us too, and then there's a whole plethora of guilds beneath those two also raiding... I've talked to people from other servers who said they didn't even have a major serious raiding guild. Most bossses just sat alive for weeks. BLASPHEMY.

I was actually in Grey Council on Povar...moved to Xev with them. After they opened the Euro server lots of GC left and I went to Altera Vita (prob late velious iirc).

I've been alright but I think I really hate myself because here I am starting from scratch on an already established server with an (apparently stagnant) economy and no chance at getting those sweet prenerfs. Going from decked out grandpa Xeffo the Reaver to a cheap-knock off reroll is kinda depressing. But whatever, I relinquished my caring for EQ back in 2003ish when I quit and... wait for it... ended up working at an afterschool program for 12 years. Turns out leading activities with groups of kids is something that leading raids actually prepares you for! Even the sour feelings at the end when prizes get distributed :P

Oh, Povar memories. I don't remember specifics of that but it does sound very familiar. I do fondly remember another Plane of Fear incident with Narya trying to break zonein with two very ragtag guild groups. I heard about it and lived up to my asshole nature back then, making temporary friends of so many little imps <3 I miss Woofwoof. Dude was crazy smart, into cryptography... his account password was some 20 digit alphanumeric case sensitive thing. I rfiemember getting it wrong about 5 times before finally getting it right and then I botched the entire encounter (in Kael at some caster offhand shield dropper who was easily killed w/charm) Oops. Last I talked to him he said he was going to open a soap and candle shop. I think he met a cute girl or somethin. Kung unfortunately would not be allowed here on p99 because he is a filthy lazy multiboxer ;)

Uh speaking of lag though... this server is located on the east coast, yes? I was getting some gnarly 180ms constant ping the other day and that's just not gonna cut it for a twitchy pulling class like SK. Even at 100ms, the client/server always disagree about where you and NPCs are - it's incredibly frustrating when you have stopped moving on your screen and are casting a spell just fine and ah oh oh nope sorry guy it seems you were still within the last 5mm of your deceleration. Spell interrupted! So imagine that with feign death, the spell you tagged with, the NPC walking around pre-tag and the crowd chasing post-tag, all agro interactions on the way, all spells they cast, on and on and on and each every little 180ms latency exchange further compounds the problem. It was 100 today so maybe just a bad night?

I'm playing EQ2 atm, Xef, the lag killed me daily on the P99 server. You think your SK gets tricky, try a wiz ;)

As far as what we did after EQ, I became a university professor...go figure.

It's almost like I assumed people play this server because we all had nice past experiences and were trying to relive some of the magic of those. By sharing my stories I'm trying to relate and find similar people and maybe somebody I knew to play with. Most of my posts are written during hp/mana regen downtime. Maybe part of your trip down memory lane includes crocheting or doing crosswords during that downtime but I'd rather do something else like posting about the game I'm playing. I haven't a single negative interaction with anybody in-game or on forums until your little reply, so I'm gonna choose to hope that your snide attitude isn't the norm.

He's not just reminiscing. When he's not bragging about what he did back in the old days he's being negative and criticizing p99. It's not just in this thread but a few others including Reddit. Either play the game or don't, stop whining about it.

You know, I was going to write up a pissy reply to you, but I don't think that helps either one of us. I went back and read my reddit posts and I do agree I've been a bit braggy. There are plenty of other Povar/EQ memories I could share but those would be even less interesting and fall even more into the 'nobody cares' category. So I've shared what stands out the most to me in my overall experience.

I'm not entirely sure how you came to the conclusion that I'm bashing or criticizing p99 though. I wrote extensively about Verant/SOE, EQ live, pulling, and engine issues, but nowhere in there have I said anything bad about p99. In fact I've had nothing but good things to say about the server so far (edit: aside from the lag), not running into a single negative character in game and being absolutely floored by the kindness of random strangers. Perhaps you're conflating my criticisms of the original game with p99? I don't know, but whatever it is, I'm sorry I've rubbed you the wrong way.

It looks good, plays well, and constantly reminds you that you're still wandering the EQ universe. You can try it for free up to a point, but you'll need to sub for the end game raiding. Like p99 it has a lot of friendly players, even if they seem few and far between early on.

This desktop rig I'm playing on is 6+ years old, do you think it would run okay? GPU is a Radeon 6700, cpu is an i5-2400, 12gb ram, ssd. I do like the EQ universe and how expansive it is, so I'm curious to take a look around EQ2 I guess.
