baler is actually really on point. anime was caused directly by the nuking of japanese towns. Just observe how many animes are centered around heroes/villains with the power to create massive explosions that always depict destroying a highly populated city.

More forms of media for expression is a good thing and anime is pretty unique in its stories and form.

I don't like many anime but Cowboy Bebop is in my top picks

Was/is Robotech considered anime? I think that's the closest thing I ever got to watching anime if so.

The best way to post healthily is ramp it up during periods of isolation or infirmity then drastically reduce when circumstance changes. Post while on the toilet and during natural breaks at work when you need 5-10 mins of respite while problem solving big tasks. That's assuming u have a job and it's not menial work.

That's a tough one, because was originally "Macross" which it was completely different.

Robotech was kind of fabricated for American audiences from a mashup of other (mostly unrelated) things. It was a kind of disingenuous move when you look at it...but we were kids back in the 80s, we didn't know any better...

Is this turning into an anime discussion thread?

I've found that when people say they don't like anime or don't understand why some people like anime, they tend to have never really been exposed to anime other than the kiddie shows that are on American kids programs. 90% of anime isn't going to appeal to you, just like 90% of American TV isn't going to appeal to you. House Hunters, Stranger Things, and The Teletubbies are going to pull in 3 very different audiences. Same goes for anime. For every Pokemon, there's a Death Note, or a Ninja Scroll. You just gotta find the right show for you.

Some shows I agree with you because the English cast sucks so badly it's distracting. Others they manage to get a good English voice cast and it saves me from having to spend half my time looking at subtitles, which means I'm more free to appreciate the visuals.

I actually haven't seen a ton of anime just enough of the big ones. When I was younger - Ninja Scroll, Evangelion, Akira (duh), Fatal Fury, Vampire Hunter D, Paprika, Lain, Ghost in the Shell, Chobits, etc.

Cowboy Bebop is the only English dub that is Japanese tier quality voice acting. Recently was at some hipster loft party and some anime Otaku cucks were watching Ghost in the Shell in English. Made me want to throw up.

Hell, I thought Final Fantasy CG movie was complete shit until my boy made me watch it over a blunt and subbed. Was a completely different fucking movie.

I have yet to finish Sword Art Online Season 2, Attack on Titan, Gangsta. Last series I managed to complete was Space Dandy, Overlord and One Punch Man. I liked\loved parts of Bleach but that shit was wayyyyyyyyyy to fucking drawn out. Really only liked the Hueco Mundo arc. When shit gets real evil/twisted/dark it sort of draws me in. You don't get fucked up story telling like that in American anything really. Just happy ending nonsense and everyone wins bullshit.

The serious shit where the protagonist dies or some twisted evil demon shit that kills your family and eats your soul type of shit and then you die only to land in the underworld suffering for all eternity type of shit, etc. etc.

That's what's great about Anime.

those are both bad animes i abandoned them quickly

check out some OG chinese cartoons like Rurouni Kenshin which is a heart-warming saga about a mass murdering samurai.

Others I know you would love are Death Note (season 1) - you'll have to finish it because you want to but don't be surprised when season 2 is significantly worse. Also go watch Hunter X Hunter which is really really great

The English dub for Death Note and Code Geass are both really good, I never had a desire to switch over to subs. Sword of the Stranger is also really good in English, in part because it makes it really obvious when certain characters are talking in their native language (Chinese) vs language the main characters are supposed to understand (for us, English, for where it was originally aired, Japanese).

Agreed that Cowboy Bebop's English dub was solid and GitS had a horrible English dub. I watched that FF7 Advent Children movie and it was kind of shitty regardless of what language, unless you're talking about the FF movie that came out waaaay back in theaters that completely bombed, in which case I can't really weigh in.

Skarlorn is spot on with literally everything he said, though Attack on Titan probably wins best anime opening theme song.

One Punch Man is awesome in Japanese, shitty English dub though. Can't wait for season 2. The animation in the fight scenes is incredible, and the soundtrack is pretty boss too.

Really out of all of them though, I can't recommend Code Geass enough. I love a really plot-heavy series, and that describes it very well. Practically every single episode is a cliffhanger.

True, Attack on Titan song is awesome. The first 2 episodes are also insanely good.

1 punch man was a big favorite for me when it came out. sounds like no new seasons in the near future though. I'll check out Code Geass :)

The problem with AoT is the further into the series you get, the more time it spends flashing back to shit we already saw. It gets to the point where an entire episode takes place inside a character's head. They probably blew their budget on the first few episodes and then started reusing old clips more and more to try to save money. Damn shame too because the first few episodes are really good.

What i learned from this thread is heavy radiation saturation on japan created pedos which in turn created anime for kids.

I remember a time my dad was extremely angry and disappointed in me whe I was a kid. I thought it would be funny to scare my stepbrother by throwing a snowball at his bedroom window.

Instead of just making a loud noise and sliding off the window, the compacted snowball crashed through the window shattering it like a wrecking ball careening through a wall of wet paper.

My dad was very, very mad. My punishment was fixing the glass window as he instructed me how to do it, all the while making me feel like I was the size of an ant.

I never threw another snowball at a window again.

P.S. What's "uguu" mean???
