So I'm AFK on my second laptop at the elf island docks near AC camp island. I just noticed the boat arriving from Freeport towards Butcherblock and stopped here at the docks. Then it took off towards Butcherblock.

I know this is super minor but is this classic? I could have sworn the boat bypassed the elf island docks on the way back from Freeport.

It's not classic. Faydwer is east of Antonica. Back when, if you were going from Butcherblock to Freeport, the boat incorrectly went west to east; Freeport to Butcherblock, east to west.

In P99 the boat goes the "correct" direction, which is the wrong direction.

Also, by this point of the timeline there should be two ships running between Freeport and Butcherblock, with different routes for each direction. Last time I took a ship on P99 we were still stuck with just the single ship and its associated excessive wait.

If i remember from discussion in 2009 the ships running the correct (although opposite from classic) direction was an intentional change.

Yeah, I included this on my wiki page of "Unclassic Bits":

One change in the game that has no justification other than "the developers wanted it' are the Ocean of Tears boats. This change is the direction of the boats in Ocean of Tears: on Project 1999 the boats travel in the opposite direction. This change was made because the live version of Ocean of Tears had its original East-West axis switched. Since logically it makes no sense for boats from Freeport to travel East to get to Faydear (and vice versa) the developers switched the directions in this zone.

(And as an aside to anyone who feels motivated, feel free to add any other "unclassic bits", it's a wiki!)

When you DING, wasn't there a graphic animation above your character if viewing in 3rd person F9 view?

Am I confusing this with Vanilla WoW DINGs?

I believe later expansions adding the sparkles around you when you leveled (probably copied it from World of Warcraft).

Boat routes/specifics are something I want to fix before a new server is released. When the boat paths were originally developed, the routes were as they are now.. correct(?) but not classic.

I really just need to get all the needed details, and go from there.

Here is an old thread with some info for collaboration.

Thanks Nilbog, do you think the animation is fixable as well vs the boats freezing in place and clicking away. Just curious really.

This thread is a good candidate for those "The difference between MY Friday nights and YOUR Friday nights" threads

Some faded memories of boat travel in the early days (began playing the day Kunark was released as a reference):

- The video in the thread Goblin, I mean Nilbog posted shows the boat leaving the docks heading to the left. I've always remembered the boats leaving towards the right.

- The boat's "classic" direction was backwards to compass maps as others here noted. Personally, I prefer the correct direction currently implemented.

- The boats can be targeted and their names would appear in the combat window. While practicing my Intimidation skill with my bard, I succeeded and the boat temporarily paused since it was following a path and thus could not be feared off of it.

- I watched druids cast Sow on the boat and they would move faster until zoning.

- The shuttle boat from Erudin to the boat in the ocean used to line up with the dock. Currently on here, you need to jump the guard rail to board it.
