View Full Version : Food And Drink Consumption

I'll preface this by stating that I searched for related threads of this, but found nothing that was recent.
So I was browsing the Wiki at work, as I am oft to do, quickly Alt+Tabbing out to my e-mail when the boss walks by (my thumb and pinky are quite practiced at this). I have carefully crafted the illusion of a productive employee. Anyway, I noticed this:
"NOTE: As of March 2015, all food/drink categories seem to have the same duration, so feel free to stock up on milk and muffins to save yourself some cash."
I've been lugging around Iron Rations like a fool for the last two months and come to figure out I could have been snacking on muffins this whole time for the same consumption rate!? Is this classic? Is it going to be patched eventually? WILL MY STOMACH EVER BE SATED FROM A MIRACULOUS MEAL? These are the questions that keep me up at night.
Here I sit, playing a barbarian rogue and making fun of all the "milk drinking southerners" when I myself could join their ranks with the Great Value 7 copper milk bottles that I believed were inferior to my manly water flasks.

Milk & Muffinis are BiS unfortunately :(
I would love for it to be classic as well. It's supposed to be something to balance halfling xp bonus or big race stat bonus... and just a cute flavor all in all. I'm afraid staff has that on very low priority though ;A;

That makes sense, especially considering that they haven't completed all the Velious patches. That should probably take priority over my milk and muffin flavor.

Dude variety is the spice of life as they say and I have to wonder what kind of spices are in those muffins, but would you really want to walk around all day with just a bunch of muffins and milk in your bag like I think the milk would go bad. Try it sometime though, while you are at work or out running around just see how it goes having and all milk and muffin diet. At least with the iron rations you are getting more and I just wish that they have those for sale in the store like that but you gotta have all kinds of food in your bag to really be effective long term. They say when you are camping you should hang your food up high instead of keeping it in the tent and avoid bear attacks that way so has anyone tried not having food on them in the game, like maybe the bears attack you because they smell the food in your bags so if you don't have food you won't be KOS to bears and you're almost like a follower of Tunare at that point. Which makes you think then, does Tunare even eat food, my guess is no

Change things up and eat some grapes.
Also, add shared banks

There is patch notes that mention them adding food "duration" so I would assume before that point, there wasn't a difference, so yes, it is classic (that patch was some time in 2001)

According to Wikipedia, UHT milk has a shelf life of 6 to 9 months (until opened). When the world's foremost UHT milk processor, Parmalat, first introduced UHT milk to the U.S. market back in 1993, they hit a snag. ... We like our milk cold, and UHT milk doesn't need to be refrigerated.

Elven trail mix or some kind of vegetables from Rivervale are all I really care to eat. Although sometimes I will buy bread from the lady at the Jade Tiger in Freeport if I must

Has anybody actually tested this in game with a stack of food or drink and a timer? I normally stay stocked up on Fuzzlecutter Formula 5000 except when I'm in a pinch, and maybe it's just a placebo effect but I swear I notice a difference between that and water flasks or something.
My monk also keeps only Frost Giant Steaks with him because it's what real men do (thanks to Alefia for baking; hit him up if you want some).

When comparing the rate that I run out of various food vs various drink it seemed to be all the same. Iron rations deplete at the same rate as water flasks, as do muffins and regular rations. Same with muffins vs fizzlecutter/milk/water flasks.
