View Full Version : Do lower level spells get resisted more often?

50 Shaman here -- was recently debating with a groupmate about using lower level slows to save mana. However, nothing wastes mana more than when slows get resisted. (as in, I'd rather spend 50 extra mana on the higher level slow if it's more likely to land).

So: will a level 50 mob, for instance, be more likely to resist a level 29 slow than a level 39 slow? Or *any* lower level spell for that matter? A level 5 nuke vs a level 49 nuke?

Has this been tested by any EQ scientists out there?

Whether an NPC resists your spells or not depends entirely on the PC's level (and resists of mob etc) and not the level of the spell itself as far as i'm aware. Someone feel free to correct me if i'm wrong.

Lower level spells work fine for enchanters. Lvl 4 mez, lull, etc can even be ideal.

Some low level spells have resist (0) and some high level spells have resist (-100)

It has nothing to do with the level of the spell and everything to do with the resist modifier

Level 1 lifetap spell is as close to unresistable as you can get but level 59 darkness spell will get resisted constantly, for example

level 5 Grasping Roots at level 53 is still the best root for a druid. One more voice for "resist only care about caster level vs mob level" , i don't even think a spell has a "level" per se, just a prerequisite to scribe it depending on your class.

While I have no definitive proof and my observations are anecdotal, I use lowest rank spells for their mana efficiency and have not noticed any significant increase in resists

I’ll agree with what others have said, although I hate how often my nukes get resisted on my 27 wizzy on blue mobs!!!

They work fine, anything else is just paranoia

In some cases as previously stated down ranking is in fact ideal

enchanter lvl 4 mez, and lull in many situations are the best (Lower cast time , lower mana cost)

Down ranking slow can also save lots of mana when you are killing a large quantity of mobs that are still threatening enough to need slowed (Forlon Deeds 70% is 225 , Tepid 50% is 100) Tepid also casts twice as fast *3seconds vs 6 seconds*

Can also use the low level root to more safely re-charm un-stunnable pets like giants and wyverns, might have to wait an extra 15 or 20 seconds for root to break or just pull your next mob ontop of your rooted pet, but that sure beats taking health dmg or letting your pet tear thru your bedlam / Rune V every single time because its unstunnable/unmezzable

Unrelated perhaps, but can I just chime in on how greens landing root on a PC with their MR in the 100s is bullshit?

But hobbits can't be enchanters. I smell HERESY AND BETRAYAL from a certain hobbit warlord!

In all seriousness though, has anyone messed with clickies? It may be a placebo thing, but it feels like my clicky root necklace (http://wiki.project1999.com/Warden_Symbol_of_Tunare) gets resisted a lot more than if I cast the actual spell.
