I wish I could do this. Work is really close, but it's always hot as tits outside. So I would probably have to shower and then change. Not worth it for a 10 minute bike ride.

I will be riding my harley today for the first time in 7 months. I'm pretty excited about that.

Most of the time. Occasionally I'll go down the street for food or something and not wear it. I did some work to it so it's got some balls on it. So if I'm going anywhere else I'll wear it.

Started mead’s bench thing using 315 as my 1RM. I don’t understand how I bench so much but never move up in lat pulldowns. Oh well, GAINs. Doing a cardio day... rowing and a bunch of burpees. Then I will sadly, in the absence of my wife, watch more anime.

I don't know what's up. Most of the time when I quit smoking smoke smells absolutely repellent. I'm 2 months clean now and it's never smelled bad this time. Feel like this bodes poorly because smoke still smells really good. Holding my breath and mentally cussing out any smokers I see or smell.

That's what I'm saying. I think different variables when you quit affect the outcome. It took about 3 days for me to develop a strong aversion to my mother's BF's cigarette smoke probably about 5 years ago. That was one of the typical addiction managed by overeating quits and I relasped about 2 weeks in with an additional 10lbs. This time I actually kept my weight steady and I'm down about 8 lbs, but cigarette smoke (besides old on smoke on clothes /barf) hasn't become less appealing. Also I was unusually more hulked out angry the entire withdrawal this time, about a month, but it was a successful quit. Very bad odds for success to happen without medication. Was there different biological factors at play this time? I was on a new HRT dosage and had added progesterone which I believe has an effect on dopamine.

I know older ex-smokers who would hang around me when I smoked because they liked the smell after quitting for years. Always thought that was kinda pathetic, but I do not think this is a time related process. Something different happened and it's definitely a relapse risk factor.

Females have a much faster recovery time than males, thanks to oestrogen. They do well to follow programs tailored to their gender (as the standard programs are male centric).

Perhaps the implied advice here is to hop onto the HRT during recovery?

It causes muscle loss typically by lowering testosterone, I don't believe it has a direct influence. prolactin is more of regulatory hormone and neurosteroid in the brain.

Additional fun facts re: prolactin lowering. In men it can eliminate refractory period after orgasm by taking certain prolactin lowering drugs.

Rat studies show cabergoline has a direct inhibitory effect on pituitary lactotroph (prolactin) cells

You hear about porn stars doing 5 scenes a day, and then other porn stars only able to do 2 and 3. You wonder if the 5 scenes a day guys are popping a little cabergoline or Pramipexole on shoot weeks or just naturally have low prolactin.

Of course thats dangerous abuse of a Parkinson's medication, not actual science. But some of the anecdotes report being able to bust multiple shots back to back.

I ate terribly yesterday. It was an enlightening reminder of how I survived for my first few decades. Poorly. Everything I ate was processed with only the stray, accidental vegetable. I drank Mountain Dew, Pepsi, and Rock Stars. I even spent a summer mostly living off of little caesars’. So last night I may have eaten a lb of chicken tenders covered in bbq and washed it down with a couple energy drinks along with a half pint of mint ice cream. I got it into my head I wanted to gain a couple pounds... gross experience. Bring on the vegetables. Two tomatos and two tbsp hummus for breakfast today. Can of tuna for lunch. Chicken breast, spinach, and potatoes for dinner.

I cringe to tell this story, but you know how when they are building a house, before they put the walls/sheet rock on it. there is nails sticking out everywhere from banging the siding panels onto the house from the outside.

As a youngster I ran full sprint at the wall palms out to push off the wall like a little kid would do. ended up eating a 9 inch nail to the thumb muscle directly. Went in pretty deep fucking sucked. A bad glass cut is certainly bad, but doesnt make me physically sick to recall it. The nail, full sprint into wall thing just still makes me queeze out to this day.

Deep into month 2 without wife. Currently, I’m watching fullmetal alchemist brotherhood shirtless in the media room eating a block of Gouda. I’m eating this block by biting straight into it

I also haven’t been to the gym this week. Last week my son had people over at my house instead of his apartment. He’s a CRNA and so there are a lot of nurses in his social circle. This one named Tara ended up staying, unbeknownst to me, after everyone else left. I wake up around 2 to splashing and shit going on outside in the hot tub. I go out there and she’s topless, a 25 year old hot brunette nurse. As I go out there, knowing full well what’s going on, she moves over to the edge and presses her boobs up against the side of the hot tub

I didn’t cheat on my wife. But once I had had a beer with her in the hot tub, finally convinced her to leave without smashing, I went inside and masturbated furiously. WTB my wife

GAINS log - 8/20/18

The Finger heals well. I've abstaned from exercise since last week. Today the laceration is no longer looking fucky. Should get stitches out SEWN.

I got back into my routine today by doing kendo exercises at home, a series of squats and lunges paired swinging the shinai in my back yard. Then i did other routines that a baka like you would not comprehend *autistically adjusts thick set glasses*

(i don't wear glasses, 20/20 vision masterrace)

I mentioned to Mead that alcohol is really fucking me up when I drink these days. He said something that stood out to me, which is that it seems like you may be hungover for 1 or 2 days, but that it really fucks up an entire week. I feel the same way, so I've decided to majorly restrict my drinking.

I'm now running a 2 drinks per week MAX limit. Last week I used my 2 rations of whiskey on Thursday night. I drank them while playing WoW and then met up with my side piece, ate tacos, then i fucked her. I do not like her very much so the whiskey helped. i will no logner give her my seed.

Looking forward to this finger being fully healed so i can blast EM peccs

I ran out of chocolate peanut butter muscle milk and decided I wanted to try something else, go back to a simple whey product and just take a multivitamin.

I had chocolate whey from ON ( optimum nutrition ) in the past but it tasted so bad, and since im not an astronaut I shouldn't have to eat garbage so I was on muscle milk for a while and it was good but a tad pricy.

I bought 3 flavors, 1 lb each to try

Delecious strawberry
ends up being pretty good
Double Chocolate
tastes 100% like the last choc flavor which I cant stand
Vanilla Ice Cream
OK at best, wont buy again and may not even finish the pound

Question for fellow gainers

Anyone try this?

I think they have more flavors not just choc, its pea protein basically, I cant imagine how many peas go into making this much protein but whatevers.

And before you start hating on whey products, my diet is simple,

Breakfast is

Eggs / turkey bacon. Might throw in some canned corned beef hash, which sounds disgusting but is really good.

If I have that for breakfast the huge protein burst allows me to fast till dinner. If I have oatmeal for breakfast im starving ( Carbs are evil ) and I have a turkey and swiss sandwinch on Pepperidge farm dark wheat bread with some cole slaw.

Dinner is ALWAYS a huge salad with lots of good stuff, its too hot to grow in florida in august so I buy the mixed greens tubs from grocery store I eat a large tub every 2 days. Sounds excessive but I need it. In the salad I put a whole avocado , dried tomatoes , dried cranberries, dried figs, roasted garlic ( I make in air fryer its bomb ) and a few other things. My dressing is sesame oil, soy sauce, olive oil and balsamic vinegar whipped. Once its been allowed to sit for a bit I put a big spoonful of siabra Tziki sauce ( duno how to spell ) Its bomb.

I have almost no salad left so tonight im eating $20 worth of salmon anyone mad?

Cant wait to hit the bike tonight for my 2 hour

I'm curious to hear how this is working for you. I haven't really done much research on the difference between this and the seated preacher curl besides the obvious core muscles while standing.

I'm here to report my first workout with this thing... And the results?! Odd.. It's pretty odd.. It definitely isolates the bicep.. So i like that, but it feels pretty uncomfortable on the back of your arm, which pisses me off.. I wanna like it, so i'm gonna stick with it for just that last set or 2, gave a nice burn out pump..

Sick of weighing between 190-195. Held that for about 2 months now. I'm heading out to do a couple miles and see if I can restart my 12pm-6pm intermittent fasting window. I had so much energy the last time I was doing that till I cheated and couldn't get back into it. Tomorrow might suck till noon.

Id like to add people who questioned my diet I have an amazing diet, I don't eat anything processed at all and I cook most of my meals unless I eat out, and eating out for me is a real restaurant not drive thru.

Whey has a very important function, I stay up till about 2 am and I eat dinner at 6pm

Most people on any physical fitness program will get super hungry a few hours before bed and unless you go to sleep 2 hours after dinner a snack of some type is in order.

Almost any snack I can think of has sugar, which will shit on your metabolism and daily gains if you eat it at 9.

If you skip the snack, you might potentially eat no food for almost 9 hours then go to sleep for 8ish hours, that's too long.

Whey in milk replaces the BAD snack with a "Pretty" good snack, I say pretty good because milk has 12g of sugar per cup

the protein will also help you heal what you do that day while sleeping, last night for example I came from my normal bikeride and felt so great I did a set on bench

added 2 reps per set and added another set so far so gains happening for sure, not even sore today and had a HUGE Breakfast

Also like to remind posters this is the GAINS Thread for physical fitness

Basically luls has no business here since he has critically low T ( Bald )

Staying up til 2 AM = poor

Seek employment, Christ, and positivity. Your negative levels are over 9000

155 + 45x3 = 290. I'm only 5'7. People just stare at the gym it's pretty funny.

I lost close to 25 pounds after I broke my leg. Still trying to recover from that shit. I want to gain 10-15 more pounds and I'll be happy. But the leg workouts are really inhibiting my progress. I meet with my ortho surgeon next week. He already gave me the green light to go full throttle as far as gym exercises go but the pain is too much sometimes. We'll see what he says.

I wear compression sleeves on both legs and left elbow. It helps with he swelling a lot. Its the tibial plateau and tibilalis anterior muscle that are really fucking me up. I can push through a lot of it but sometimes it’s too much.

So I went on the day hike for the South Sister yesterday (one of the Three Sisters volcanic peaks in Oregon). It's safe to say I was kind of an idiot for not wearing more dynamic hiking gear -- stuff that isn't too hot but can defend against wind chill. Pretty chilly on the summit for what I was wearing.

Other than things went fairly well. 6-7 miles doesn't sound like a lot, but when it's straight up gravel and steep hills it takes awhile.

had to pause the 5x5 for awhile because i go to my university gym and its full open to close with freshmen who are motivated/want to increase their chances of getting some strange for the first time in their lives.

instead been doing HIIT in my garage with just dumbells and hitting the bag, really focusing on my foot work to increase that cardio (and also because it's important for stand up). it's a total 180 from only lifting and running but i feel my metabolism increasing. I will say though I got up to about 160 (i'm 5'11") doing the 5x5; but the creator's insisting of NO cardio just doesn't mesh with me because I absolutely love running and high intensity with no rest. I get the endorphin release, i get the metabolism, and the minutia gains that are good for long term health and injury avoidance. however, i'd still like to get bigger and not drop lifting entirely. so we'll see.

I also think i am scared to commit to heavy lifting because I dont know a good regimen that incorporates running. last time I really committed, I got up to 170/175 (lean, biggest i've ever been in my life), but totally BOMBED my run on my PT test for the first time ever because I cut running out and didn't know how to carry my new weight.

Maybe i should just be happy with skinny fit and not worry about getting bigger?

just pick a goal and achieve it. then alternate. do you care more about cardio or gains? do that first for a cycle, then up the other one.

There's lots of good info out there for people looking to run and lift heavy. It's definitely possible. It just takes the right lifting/running regimen and most importantly diet.

+2.6 mi....

Trying to figure out what type of cardio routine would work best for me. Low intensity steady state (LISS) is what I generally do and that works, but it's prone to plateaus and is extremely time consuming. I generally do like a 40-60 min walk 5-7x a week.

High intensity interval training (HIIT) is the other thing I'm looking at. Can get more of a work out in less time. It's also really good for mobilizing fat. HIIT followed by LISS is what I'm going to try to do with the goal of losing as much mass as possible (muscle+fat). The only alternative for that outcome I'm aware of is more LISS and that's getting old.

Upper body muscle is what I'm trying to target, so I'll be doing be lower body strength training to counteract that.

-------

Theoretical Exercise plan

Coffee then->

"Stationary Bike
Warm up for 3-5 minutes: I usually have the resistance at a medium level so if its on a 1-20 scale I keep my warm-up and recovery time at around 10-12. When it comes time to do the intense interval, I bump it up to 15-18.

30 seconds high intensity, 1 minute low intensity (repeat 4 times)
40 seconds high intensity, 1 minute low intensity (repeat 4 times)
30 seconds high intensity, 1 minute low intensity (repeat 4 times)"

Followed by 30 mins walking. Do that 3x a week.

Body weight exercises 2x a week: Squats, leg lifts, reverse leg lifts, side lunges.
4-5 sets of 10 each.

----------------

That shouldn't kill me, right?

M'Ladies and gentleElves,

About a year ago, I was going thru a second surgery. I was out of money, barely able to work in between surgeries, and had gone down to 150 lbs. Since then, I've gone up to 195, made strides as a business partner, and acquired enough currency to make the down payment on a house. I didn't get addicted to opiates. I drink only a small amount. I'm getting my dick wet when I want to.

Some days, I wake up and experience bleakness. I worry I've wasted my life and am critical about life choices I made in my youth. It's important to measure your incremental GAINS to offset the cacophony of existential dread that lurks beneath the surface. The meaning you make in life is what pulls you through the suffering and enriches the moments of joy.

Physically, mentally, and materially, I am doing better than I could have dreamed 365 days ago.

Thanks for participating in the GAINS thread. I love this thread and I love hearing about other ELVES being healthy and strong.

Filb and Jeff yall look elf healthy as hell, love it.

Cec, That sounds like a really good HIIT work out. My philosophy is be TIRED when you're done, just drained. Only you know if you could have put in more, so just be honest with yourself and make adjustments. With that said, if you are sore for multiple days from one work out, dial it back a little.

Being able to work out again the next day or after your rest day is more important than pushing it so hard your unmotivated to get back into it because of the soreness. But again, especially with cardio, make sure you're drained. you should be dreading those last couple sets but feeling motivated as fuck when it's finally over. Eating right and drinking lots of water is really important in how you feel after your work out.

And I drink coffee before most of my work outs. as long as you're hydrated really well, it's a good natural prework out.

Seriously though, can't stress enough how important hydration is. Anyways, Good job Ceci keep it up, let us know how it goes.

No problem. And definitely, again, don't be afraid to dial it back if it's too much at first. As I've already posted, I'm still trying to figure out how to balance the weight lifting with the consistently improving cardio past where I am already. PS- what are the thoughts on whey here? It doesn’t give me real stomach trouble but it does make me feel not good every now and then.

If no tummy issues, i always will promote Whey... Always.. If tummy issues, go with a pea/brown rice collabo. Those 2 will make up for what you miss out on with whey.

Whey is best because it metabolizes faster. This way you can take advantage of your post workout window with a shake. After I work out and drink a fruit/whey/milk drink on the way home in the car.

Also whey contains a full amino profile. You won't get that with other types. However with the pea/brown rice collabo, you will get the full profile! Remember- Amino's will help with recovery, building muscle, burning fat, and also providing energy!

Never happened before!

Previousley I crashed for at least 1 day before I hit 2 weeks often at 11 or 12 days regardless of dietary intake of protein. I am starting to think that no matter how much protein you eat whey is more soluable.

Did some Xrays today at the surgeon's office and the bone is fully healed. I asked about the pain and it's all normal. I might just need to get the muscles massaged out since they're really tight. So I'll just have to be more patient with the healing process and be more proactive with some massage therapy.

I slept like shit today after my shift this morning but I put in a good 2.5 hour workout. Maxed out on seated tri press down at 540 (6 plates on each side) and decline chest press machine 450 (5 plates on each side). Not bad for 150 pounds.

I hope you guys are doing well. Keep killin' it out there and stay injury free. Try not to break any ribs on the foam roller.

Xray Results- Great news man! Any reason to get a massage is a good reason!

Less than great days- We all have them, I see where you lacked in one area (sleep), you picked up the slack in another (2.5 hour workout). Proud of you.

How are we? Well one of us apparently broke a rib on a foam roller.. So there's that... Today is my rest day. So all that matters today is diet! Happy Thursday you handsome mother fuckers!

Coffee then->

Cecily- What's the update on this new routine? Have you rolled it out over the last couple days??

Just started at the gym again this week myself. It's been 10+ years since I took it serious. With being on estrogen plus being naturally lean, I really need to do this to have strength.

Routine I plan to do is (Sun-Sat):
Gym,Swim,Gym,Swim,Gym,Swim,Off Day

Gym on a 3 day muscle group cycle (chest/back/legs) to start. I might eventually try to do each muscle group twice a week, but once a week is okay for the first while

Swimming I've been doing for a few months. I do 600m as fast as I can. Takes me about 15-18 minutes depending how I feel that day. That isn't super fast but I'd like to think it's okay...meets the Bronze Cross standard to be a lifeguard. I'd be really happy if I could get that down to 12 minutes (2:00/100m). I've sorta plateau'd for swimming gains though. Not sure if it's the pills or just need to push harder/more often. Probably some of both. I can do 2:00/100m to start but keeping that pace for an entire swim...not yet :P

It's very cool of you to check up on me. Thank you. I've done a couple more miles walking so far, but as of right now I'm still in the process of psyching myself up to get started. I suppose now is as good a time as any. Body weight exercises today. HIIT tomorrow. And I'll probably do the two rest days this weekend since this is 100% going to destroy my legs at first. I blame you :)

Swimming is fantastic Nexii! Even better when you do a few easy laps post workout! A great 3 day cycle you're looking for is the classic- Push/Pull/Legs cycle.. I say go with that! It's a proven go to system. Push day- is Chest,Tricep,Shoulders. Pull day- bicep, and back. Leg day is well.. legs... Roll that out!

Ceci, if you're like me, getting started on things is sometimes the hardest. when i'm interested or focused on something i can't put it down. I know i always dreaded starting lifting but what helped me was documenting my improvements. it gave me a goal to go for. get a notebook that's laying around your place! kind of keep a journal. not only the numbers, but write how you feel before and after your workout.

That's exactly how I am. It always seems to take me time to mentally prepare for things that I want to do. It's a pretty torturous process, actually. Studying, diets, exercise, writing papers, and that one thing, for example, might take me up to a month of yelling at myself for not doing it, but I have tremendously intense focus that doesn't stop once I get past the mental block. That is until life throws a brick wall my way. lrn2swerve dummy.

It's interesting you mention logs. I find them helpful too. When I was keeping tabs on my weight noticed I stuck to my diet and exercise better. Everything went to hell when I stopped daily logs. Including your feelings is a great idea. I wish I had. I have no idea when I lost all the rage from quitting smoking. It would have been cool to see my mental health gains. Took awhile and things are a lot better now, but I never noticed while it was happening. And also more long the lines of what you're talking about... knowing how your body feels is smart so you can adjust. It's good advice.

So, uh yeah, I'm gonna do some squats and things. Thanks for the kick in the butt, guys.

Been more maintain than gain recently, but your talk of swimming is making me jealous. I used to live in Manchester, which previously had hosted the Commonwealth Games, so had an Olympic standard pool as a public bath. I used to break up my walk home from work by smashing out lengths for an hour, then braking up the journey home from there to demolish some chicken. Good times!

Of course I'd then undo all the good work by staying out late drinking with my friends at open mic or pub quiz until time was called.

So true. The first two weeks are really tough.

The good news for anyone kicking off Elf Health - after that 2 week period your body will rapidly rewire to experience pleasure from exercise.

I felt groggy all morning. But I managed to get in some core exercise by flexing abs while driving and immediately felt way way better.

The yogis speak of Prana as life force which enters your body by breathing. Freshly oxygenated blood being pumped through your body with exercise really will give you more energy, clarity, and feelings of well-being. it's amazing!

I usually feel pretty tired / crappy till I start exercising even if its something small it almost wakes you up.

You can drink 27 cups of coffee and not get the effect 5 pushups will do.

Also I am 16 days in a row I believe without an off day from exercise, whey gains are real.

Keep an eye out for these symptoms, but you really should have a rest day or two to keep this, over training, from happening.

Persistent muscle soreness
Elevated resting heart rate
Increased susceptibility to infections
Increased incidence of injuries
Irritability
Depression
Loss of motivation
Insomnia
Decreased appetite
Weight loss

First couple days’ fitness goals achieved.

Legs were wobbly after day one and I crashed hard at 8:45pm. Woke up at 5:30am. Normal person hours again, yay. Today quads were tight but not uncomfortable. Did my HIIT as planned and did 2.6 mile, about 40 minute walk after. First mile was real slow but I picked up the pace for the second half. I’m very red atm lol. Using weekends for rest days. Let’s see how I feel tomorrow.

Think yoga on rest days is a bad idea?

Pic post workout tonight (this morning?). The gainz are real. I changed gyms to a 24 hour one so sleep more, take my sweet ass time (longer rests), and stay as long as I want. Plus, it agrees with my work schedule.

Staying injury free is a big part of the battle. I tell everyone yoga and stretching are some of the best things you can do on rest days. As long as you're getting proper rest and eating well, there should be no problems, only benefits.

3 months no smoking. Woo. My legs were so sore this weekend, but the two days off helped a bunch. I can squat down to feed the cat without going ow ow ow ow. Actually doesn't hurt at all now and I feel pretty good. Gonna go for a walk and do the HIIT later on. Doubting I can do all 5 days in a row seeing how hurt I was Saturday. Thinking this week might be more like 2 days on, 2 days off, 2days on, etc.

I've been logging my weight pretty consistently since late May and I just noticed a trend with the data. While I haven't dropped much, there's a definite pattern me of averaging a pound less a month. I am super cool with that and hope that my set point is dropping from the slow pace. I think it is. Even without much diet regulation it's snapping back to the same numbers.

most people that do HIIT do it 3 days on 1 day off at most. 5 days in a row is a bit much. I do Mon/Tues, Thurs/Fri/Sat or Mon/Tues/Wends, Fri/Sat.

Usually I just add in cardio if I do more than once a day. But you can also do traditional strength training same day...but the plan has to take muscle recovery into account.

I've heard its best to do cardio same day but separate from HIIT/Strength. I've seen people do it right after Strength though so I guess its all person to person...its just best to eat right after working out in general rather than go running from what I've herd.

I’m doing those runs right before and after at the gym on the treadmill. They’re part of my routine. We’ll see how it goes. So far, only thing I’ve noticed is runners high & my appetite increasing a ton. Probably gonna stick with it for a month to see

Hollywood is obviously steroidville...

If you ask these actors what they did to get their shirtless scene they all say:

"well its like 6000 calories a day, and work out 6 days a week twice a day, and in 6 months after cutting WALA."

for those, that's a steroid work out plan / results.

I don't know if you're getting "stronger" gains, but healthy lifestyle gains are definitely welcome. There's no one formula to this shit, as long as you're meeting your positive mental and physical health goals.

I think bulking up and heavy lifting is more strain on your body and you can get the gainz slow n steady.

I stopped taking anything inducing tachycardia or vasoconstriction before workouts. Only taking creatine and NO.

what the fuck is that shit?

300mg of caffeine in a can that I chug do a 6 minute mile then lift then finish with a 7 minute mile

I think you can die doing this

What exactly is bad about it?

I don't like processed crap in general and all I do is coffee in the morning (sometimes tea in the afternoon). But I am curious.

There’s no way coffee or green tea are bad for you. Bang could probably kill a person chugging it then running like I do, but I’m in good shape and I’ve never had cholesterol or blood pressure issues so I’m not worried

Coffee and tea are fine. The effects are weak and transient compared to preworkouts and some of these energy drinks that keep your heart rate and blood pressure elevated for long periods of time.

Yup coffee and tea are fine.. Well coffee personally would create some acidity issues in my tum tum. But yeah man if you can grind it out after a solid cup of black or green tea, then yeah man that's the way to do it!

i drink coffee every day i work. i drink a moderately weak 2.5 cups. It is exceptionally useful for insular, creative projects, like when I need to hammer out 5,000 words in a day or do 8 hours of intense video editing. However, when I am managing people I find that it gets me too sharp and I am a worse leader when I use it beyond a single 8 oz. cup of coffee.

Tea is preferred, but I have been denied coffee for 8 years so I'm enjoying it. Plus, my adrenals are still shot from those 8 years of hell. I actually have a doctor looking into some cortisol tests and shit to give me medical advice on how to rebuild my internal systems.

I do not drink coffee on days off. Nor do I drink caffeine on purpose before a workout.

Caffeine is a very good drug and I hope to utilize it in increasingly moderate and healthy capacities for the rest of my life. Some of us tolerate light stimulants very well, unlike big j.

big ups to everyone in this thread.

I am at about 6-8 cups per day ( Keurig style small cups 8 oz I think )

I love my Keurig but I visit it too often

last month I drank 3 100 packs of pods

I did something really goofy and put loose leaf green tea in the oil along with some other stuff. It came out tasty, but I'm pretty sure consuming the leaves makes you sick or something in quantity. idk

No keto anymore. About 5% of my diet was carbs. Did a lot of research on it, learned a lot, and definitely sustainable as far as foods I enjoy eating. It had me urinating like crazy and difficult to stay hydrated. That was really annoying. I also didn’t get the energy levels other people were reporting and had some tachycardia going on (which i couldn’t find any research on but i have my own theory). It just wasn’t working for me. But it’s definitely a great weight loss diet and my labs were on point during it.

I’m eating like 4-5k calories a day atm. Lots of poultry, dairy, and weight gainer protein powder. Energy levels are awesome. I need to do an a1c to see how my levels are.

Just a theory of mine:

A lot of that low carb "it will increase your energy and make you focused!" stuff is from people that were eating like shit before hand.

I'm sure its a fine way to go about a healthy diet and all. I just can't agree its the only way to go.

Yeah I agree with this. I eat a lot of carbs and don't have any weight issues. I can gain, or lose weight when i want to. I don't have focus issues either. That said, I don't eat a bunch of hyper processed foods or candy or sugars. That stuff makes me feel like garbagio. I'd say that i probably have 3-5% higher bodyfat because of the carbs i eat. it's not a bad thing.

Ah ok thanks for the info. I eat healthy Keto, as in I didn’t up saturated fat or meat, I just cut out simple sugars like bread and rice. Still eat fruit

Do you do a protein shake before and after you lift? I’m just curious how I should be eating right before and right after

If your goal is to be in ketosis, you won't be able to do it eating carbs. If you're just eating healthy ketogenic food with "good" carbs, then that's fine. I would recommend the latter anyways.

I can't eat within a 2 hour period before working out due to having a very sensitive stomach. But I eat big throughout the day before my workout. The main thing you want to focus on is eating enough for your workout. So if you plan on being in the gym for a while, you want to give your body enough fuel to get through it. Then I'll have a giant meal afterwards.

Thanks bud. Reason I ask is because I’m cutting but also plateauing on what I can lift. Ideally I’d like to slowly lose fat but also build muscle. At this point in my life I don’t think that’s possible

I don’t think I ever said it’s the only way to go, unless you’re referring to someone or something else.

You've always been pretty level-headed on the topic. But a lot of people on low-carb diets have this mentality that carbs are poison -- with the possible exception of vegetables in small quantities.

There is also a sizeable vegan cult that takes the opposite approach and claims protein needs to be carefully monitored because that is essentially poison in large doses. This allows them to claim eating meat is unhealthy.
