Magician Focus

I worked my butt of in Najena at level 18 until I was able to get a focus item to drop. I then painstakingly worked to get the rest of the items by farming skins and bone chips so i could buy the other 3 items. The time came for me to turn in, I hailed, read the text, re-hailed, read the text. I turned in all my items... AND NOTHING. I petitioned and about 4 months later got back my items, didn't play during that whole time because I was so butt hurt. I then turned the items in AGAIN... yup, nothing. Didn't even bother to petition this time, thought I was done with this game... well that was about a year ago. Now I am back to punish myself and try this quest again. Someone please tell me how in the hell I am supposed to complete the quest? I've seen level 4 magicians with multiple focus items. Are they all just crazy people who de-leveled and the turn in does actually have a "minimum" level turn in like the wiki says? (http://wiki.project1999.com/Category:Magician_Focus_Items)

Maybe this should have been under the rant page, sorry if that's the case. Thanks for any advice.

I did all the turn ins on a Lv 1 mage. You did -something- wrong

Normally, I would agree that I did something wrong. However, would they let me get the items back under a petition if they were the wrong items?!?!

I'm willing to bet one of the items you turned in was not correct, depending on which focus item you were trying to attain (wrong gem/toes/shovel). There is no minimum level for this quest

I don’t think faction is an issue, I have also completed the Shovel on my ikky shaman, worked perfectly

Because the staff here is kind, and even if you gave COMPLETELY the wrong item, like say a Fungi Tunic, odds are they would still return it to you.

What very likely happened is that you were screwed not by P99, but by EverQuest itself. The original EQ developers added multiple items with the same name, for instance:

or very similar items:

Why? Who knows, but to be certain that you have the right item you have to use the (otherwise almost useless) Identify (http://wiki.project1999.com/Identify) spell. The correct item will Identify as "Torch of Fire" (or whatever item/element is appropriate).
