Is there any chance that after kunark gets released, the original classic p99 database and the p99 classic eqemu server code could be released to the community publicly? As of now P99 is the only real everquest classic experience and doing so would not only benefit the players of classic eq but also the longevity of classic eq altogether.

here is a list of good ideas in this thread so far:

Not my idea, but I find the idea legitimate. So Uthgaard, I understand that you possibly do not want to make the fruits of your work publicly available, but what I don't understand is the "lol"...?

Cheers,

Slozem

Never mind my comment. I figured out by myself why that isn't a good idea :)

If they gave out the source / DB, Sony would get it and be able to fix the boats on live. That alone should be reason enough not to do it...

But seriously, these guys have poured 3 years of their lives into this and made this insanely cool thing that we all get to use for free. If I was them, giving away that code / DB would be the last thing I would do.

Admittedly, it would be useless to me personally since I do not know C++ from shinola. But I have to admit that I always wondered how many transactions per second the DB for Everquest was enduring when you had 800 people online...

It won't tell you anything about Live because they aren't running eqemu code on MySQL :)

One question I'd like to ask tho: should the operators ever decide to shut this server down for any reason sometime in the future, would they Open Source the code and db (less chars obviously, but they can be recreated easily enough)? Then, at least, we could fire up a successor, regen our toons and continue :)

Mg

This is going to be a little skewed since it's been in reduced functionality for about 14 hours, but:
