View Full Version : Getting Out of the Lava in Solusek's Eye...

So, I've fallen into the lava just inside Solusek's Eye's entrance from Lavastorm twice now; and have yet to find a way out. Am I just screwed when I slip on the blood splatter that used to be a goblin, or is there a way to climb out of the lava? Thanks!

Dragging your corpse out is technically a way out...

you need to get a lev and gate.
if you can't gate, you need to get a lev and have a friend who can gate lev down to you and hand you a leatherfoot raiders cap to WC gate out.
if you don't have a friend with a WC cap, you can spend 1k for a smoky vial and get him to bring it to you and pay 1k to gate to your bind.

OR you can just die and drag your corpse out.

Welcome to Sol A.

Set your frame rate to low, look up, and swim towards the lowest ledge

I was wondering if I followed the lava down I'd find myself in SolB or not; or just die in a spot where I'd need a necro or a GM to get my body. Although, SolB would probably be a worse place for a level 30ish toon to die than in the lava!

Quite a few good -- or at least humorous -- suggestions. Thanks everyone!

Follow the lava to solb. Once in solb you can get out of the lava behind the royals

Hey Lordodie! If it is of any consolation, the *exact-same* thing happened to me-- hit lvl 30, wanted to try a fancy new zone in Sol A, and wound up falling in the lava twice / dying twice.

Without a levitate and being unfamiliar with layout, Sol A can be tricky. Which is a shame as it does seem to have an uber-nice exp modifier (when you're actually killing stuff and not melting away @ bottom of zone)

My lvl 30 buddy (we are monk + sham) and I rotated over to HHK and are always down to group and try out new places if you want to shoot me a PM

Avoiding the whole zone altogether because you can't watch your steps seems a bit overkill ;) it's an excellent zone and falling in lava should not happen more than 2-3 times lol ... might be harder with a big race? I dont know... i was there mostly on a dark elf and gnome toon...

This has worked for me as well. I didn't change the frame rate though.

Hi Nagoya, I'm admittedly a noob on server-- lvl 30 is my highest toon on p99-- and especially with Sol A. For anyone inexperienced like myself, having a levitate as you learn your way around would be incredibly helpful.

Unfortunately, I didn't learn the layout much at all and said "screw it" after the lava got me a second time. Also, this tip about looking up and possibly changing frame rate seems good for anyone looking to avoid a similar, lava-filled fate (especially any melee classes without gate and/or lev).

Thankfully, retrieving your corpse isn’t as difficult as I’d thought it’d be at least… /corpse still seems to be able to “jump” your body up several floors as long as you are close-enough location wise.

PS – threads like this are often full of juicy information for people returning to the game like myself

I'm about 40% done with my Sol A guide stebbins. I'll hopefully have it up this weekend. I'm trying to make it more accessible to total newbs like I was myself when I went there on p99.

It's really a phenomenal zone. You just need to be careful at a few crucial spots (like the entrance).

Are you going to post this on the wiki? Send me a PM when you finish it. I'm semi-familiar with Sol B, but never really messed with A. A group a friends and I made new start ups and we're getting close to the Sol A level range and I'd love some hobbit related advice to the zone.

I’m surprised it hasn’t been said already, but this is very classic. Has a very “June 1999” flavor to it.

yeah, I'll put it on the wiki as a guide then also post a thread on server chat so people know it's up.

The thing that's really holding me back is gathering photos to put in with the guide. I'm pretty lazy when it comes to collecting screenshots lol. But your nice work has inspired me to increase photographic coverage of my p99 writing

Note: I also plan on rolling out a guide for Crystal Caverns, Cazic-Thule, Runnyeye, basically all those off-path zones which are actually awesome exp and money. It may take me months lol

I'm not saying I was drinking one evening and sent my 54 Leezard Monk into SolA on a CR for my 33(?) Dwarf Paladin -- who died heroically fighting off literally hundreds... nay, thousands!... of weedy goblins... at the same time... with one hand tied behind his back... up hill... both ways... And fell into the lava. I kind of panicked when I couldn't figure out how to swim out. I didn't know I could zone into SolB and just accepted death and bought a rez.

Interestingly enough, while running back to SolA with my aforementioned Paladin, I "discovered" that there were Shadow Men in Lavastorm. (That's information you need to know!) So, after getting my second Paladin corpse back, I was able to get a 3-for-1 rez from a very helpful cleric who was undoubtedly laughing his ass off at my drunken, expletive-filled, tells.

Ah... EverQuest... Good times...

That being said, SolA is a really fun zone! There's no shortage of mobs to kill and the ZEM is pretty amazing. It can be difficult to get a group at times as it's off the beaten path. That would be my only complaint. So, bring your own group. (BYOG?)

My 32 Ogre Shadowknight Deathskull is hanging around the halls of SolA right now. I'll be at AdeptiCon in Chicago this weekend, but send him a tell if you see him wandering around, drooling on himself. He loves eating -- I mean grouping. Grouping! -- with the smaller races.

I've been in this situation more than I would like to admit. When I was newer to the server I would spend hours and hours farming chump change here late into the night. Fell asleep at the keys and fat fingered into the lava probably 5 times at least. I can think of 3 times minimum where I called a Dial druid to port into Lavastorm, zone in and invite me to a group and port me back out to Lavastorm.

Maybe stupid question that is obvious to others...how did you survive in the lava long enough for this to happen? Were you just medding and healing thru the burning damage or something? Did you have really high fire resist?

Nope, good question but if you just swim up to the walls in a few spots and look up, you can kinda get your guy to stick on the wall and out of the burn damage.

Skarlorn this would be sweet! Your efforts will be much-appreciated. I definitely want to head back to SolA.

Wfrench, the lava hits you at like 25-30 damage per tick. It adds up fast when you're panicking and your mouse "right click look" suddenly doesn't seem to be cooperating

My drunk friend tried to risk control this eventuality by casting air elemental illusion... Before he zoned in. Whoops.

There is definitely a way out. Pops you out near the clockwork gnomes. With low swimming skill and not knowing where you're going though, probably not gonna make it.

Also, Sol A is an awesome zone. Hasn't seen as much use as it used to, but in classic that place was packed. Good ZEM, vendor in zone, decent cash loot if you use the aforementioned vendor.. whats not to love? Goblin wizzys are a little OP with their nukes, and gnomes are very MR, but over all one of my favorite zones when grinding new characters...

Actually, on second thought, it is a horrible zone, stay away.
