View Full Version : Cannot select a character
In all my characters slots there is a message instead of my character names.
It says-Your Spells file is outdated. Please visit project1999.org and get the latest file from the getting started post.
I have done this, 3 times now. And its not working?

www.project1999.org front page, read it or just click Setup Guide on left corner. Install the v4 spell file? I did it and had np.
Followed the instructions, multiple times. Not working.

Did you unzip the file correctly?
The globalload has to go in your resources directory, and the other two text files (spells_us and dbstr_us) need to go in your root Everquest directory (they should overwrite previous versions of themselves).
All unzipped correctly yes. I have tried it 6 times now. Still not working.
Yes restarted many many times already.

I just did something to mine trying to get the new file and I cannot log on to any servers now.

Go into your P99 Titanium folder and delete or rename these two files:
dbstr_us.txt
spells_us.txt
Then unzip them again. For whatever reason it doesn't overwrite them; it just appends them by adding _# at the end of the file when you zip it into the folder.
That'll fix your problem.

Yeah, if you just unzip the files into the folder it appends the new file names to: dbstr_us_1.txt and spells_us_1.txt. Each time you unzip them it just adds another file with the next sequential number (e.g. xxx_us_2.txt, xxx_us_3.txt) which means you may have several of each in there. =P
So you can just delete the original dbstr_us.txt & spells_us.txt files or rename them (which is what I did, by adding an x to the front of their name).
After you do the rename or the delete, unzip again.
After you do those things, double check your folder to make sure you have:
dbstr_us.txt dated 2010_02_04 &
spells_us.txt dated 2011_03_11.
^^ If that's what you have then things will work!
EDIT: Just wanted to add that normally you get a prompt asking you if you want to OVERWRITE existing files when you unzip an updated set of files into a folder where a file with the exact same name already exist. That is not happening (at least for me and it looks like several others here as well). So instead of it being a quick, one step process you have to do the renaming or deleting of the original files to make it work.

Sure, deleting them works.
I'm just paranoid and renamed mine instead. Then once I had everything working I went back later and deleted the old stuff I had renamed. But that's probably overkill and unnecessary.

I must be doing something wrong. I download the V4 file into the Everquest folder. I rename the dbstr_us.txt and spells_us.txt to just dbstr and spell file. Then i hit extract. Is this what you do or is there more?

Do the renaming or deleting first. That way all of the old files which no longer work are gone or out of the way.
Unzip only after you've renamed or deleted.
You only need these two spell files, with these dates, the rest are useless:
dbstr_us.txt dated 2010_02_04
spells_us.txt dated 2011_03_11

I know your saying what to do, but i really need to know what to do in order, starting with the downloading the folder to rearranging everything. Zereh, would you be able to post that, what you did in order from first to last?

Go into your P99 Everquest folder
Find all of the dbstr_us* files, delete them.
Find all of the spells_us*, delete them.
Unzip the new files they have provided into your P99 Everquest folder.
Play the game.

Alright i did that, but now when i go to log in i get a message saying i cant log in, and that i may need to run an update patch? What does this mean now?

Hmmm, for some reason the spell_us.txt file is dated 8/2/2010, anyone else have this problem?
I extracted it straight from the eqchangesv4.zip file.

I am having the same issue. Have never had any problems updating files on p99. Running windows 7
last successful log in about 2 weeks ago.
have both files in main eq folder and global load in the resources folder.

Note: I get this error message after a return to the log in screen. I attempt to log in as normal. It appears to be loading. Instead of character select screen it goes back to log in screen where I re-enter password and receive the error message.

I figured out my problem though, I had to use the beta_spells.zip and take that spells_us.txt file and place it into my EQ directory, then I added dbstr_us.txt to it, in case anyone else has some "amazingly stupid failage at performing simple computer operations", which some cannot understand. Ever.

Do you mean that the files your putting in the EQ directory have to have the .txt at the end or what?

depending on your os and settings, they may or may not display the .txt, should however show the text document icon (it is not part of the file name).. follow the instructions of the person tring to help before in relation to making sure that your os overwrites the files, and doesnt add something at the end and put it next to it, if your still having issues, you have yourself a bug im guessing, post about in the bug section and provide as much info as possible.... oooooh also im unsure how they made it so that one cant login withlout the new spell files, but if youve been screwing around with the files, try redownloading them..
and cut the devs/assistants whatnot some slack, they have been doing alot of work recently for free, and yes certian responses may be a bit harsh, but they are no doubt incessentally bombarded with stupid questions... i doubt i would ever even log into the forums in thier shoes

Use the installer in my signature.. it will set it all up for you properly... couple clicks..
no unzipping/draggin dropping etc etc.. just a few clicks.. its an automated installed of whats needed.

Im on XP, i haven't got around to upgrading, i did take a look at the Duxa's installer tool, but nothing on there seemed to help me fix my problem. I could be wrong, and ill double check.

OK so I can't figure it out either. I tried to delete my spells file and re-extract. 'Nothing is working. I even renamed the files spells_us.txt when it was spells_us.txt

use the app in my signature to set it up for you. couple clicks and you are done. no moving/extracting/renaming EVER AGAIN!

your updater/installer worked well.....I tried your UI and its fine but I miss my horizontal hot bars. Anyway to change that? Also when I try to go back to the UI i was using I still dont get my old bars back..they are still vertical 2x2. That comes from /load default. /load velious gives me that crappy UI. wasnt there a /load default1 as well?
