Non-Iksar Necro

I've read lots of posts about Iksar being the best min/max choice for necromancer and it seems that, because of their racial regen, this is the case.
That being so, is there a consensus on the 2nd best choice for a necromancer? Not aesthetically speaking, but from a min/max perspective. If you just can't bring yourself to roll an Iksar (because of their tails or whatever ) what is the next best race for a Necro for leveling up and possible raid encounters?
I've been playing an Erudite, but gnomes seem so much creepier and they do seem to have some advantages.
I've seen quite a few human and dark elf necros. Do people play those races just for aesthetics or is there some sort of racial advantage?

since velious and gear being so great and server lifespan leaving said items fairly affordable, every race non-iksar are pretty much the same

gnome has "gnome vision" where they sit and see through walls, and access to tinkering

thats pretty much it. suit up on leather like items like loam/coldain/shardwurm/gatorscale, get a staff, roll iksar necro and pretend you are a monk with a third leg or something.

Next best would probably be gnome, tinkering is nice for a necro and you get the ability to see through walls.

Dark elf, starting stats are good, you look good, and hide is handy - especially later if you need a quick undead mez break.

Dark elf is my 2nd favorite non-lizard evil race... but that’s just preference. Stat wise they’re all about the same.. erudite is probably the best 2nd choice after iksar if you’re focusing on just stats.

Don't happen much, after the mid 30's lich turns you into a skele, pretty sure it's the same size skele for gnomes as it is for dark elfs. Therefore LoS issues are gone, also DMF is Levi for over an hour. That helps with LoS a lot too.

Dark Elf is pretty pimp in gear. The lack of regen is a small bummer but in the grand scheme of things, leveling the character with regen to overcome the delay in level speed requires a constant stream of targets. If you're mostly solo'ing and taking on static camps during the 1-49 phase, being the non Iksar might actually be a plus.

I never had plans on raiding, Bond of Death is cash with its ratio, so regen is a non issue for me. If for even a single moment I had planned to min-max and raid with the character and be used for crazy things, I'd want the Iksar hands down, no question.

Talking of necro classes, one of the things I loved about EQ2 is being a Troll Necro :P

Even with the int penatly I would play one in eq if possible just for fun.

The lower the starting stats the better. Makes gear more meaningful!

From what I can gather, all non-Iksar necros seem to mostly have cosmetic differences while leveling up. With a few niceties thrown in, such as gnome vision and erudite intelligence. Are there many non-iksar necro raiders on the server?
