I am going to make a human char and level up smithing to make a set of http://wiki.project1999.com/Enchanted_Full_Breastplate_(platinum).
I just want to make sure that the only requirement I need is to be human.
Is it ok to start in freeport until I get to the cultural part(then go to qeynos) so I have access to the tunnel to buy the mats for it?

Enchanted platinum is a cool kind of set ! Just be aware... beside leveling up until 200+ (sorta safe zone to craft these) mats are painful to farm. You also need enchanted large bricks and access to enchanter. Bricks are not stackable. WR bags are mandatory. Apart from this, best looking cultural set, very unique.

For qeynos cultural, you will need some enchanted hq ore, grifeenne blood, sunlight essence and enchanted platinum bar... HQ ore should be no issue, you usually find heaps on merchant near permafrost, sol A & HHK, but then you need to find a 46 chanter with the enchant steel spell (sold in freeport) platinum bar is trivial, bought in jewelcraft store and enchanted by any 30 or so enchanter, sunlight essence could frequently be found by the dozens on SS merchant, through they are sometime dry, you can also find rarely some on merchants in oasis, and slightly more frequently on the greedy merchants in OT, but the real bottleneck is grifeenne blood, your best bet is to mine NK merchants, kill grifeenne there, and check tunnel for it...

Grifenne blood is definitly the real pita. I also suggest roll druid and lvl up to 19 for sow and ports. Getting to qeynos with all the stuff can be tiresome. For quicker skills up, boosting STR instead of WIS isnt a bad idea, since STR will help you carry all that ore.

The sol B 100%wr bag and the solA wr box are mandatory... They can carry only small items, but luckily ore is small, and they are really cheap due to the size too...
Edit : also I am not in business right now, too much of a hassle, but diogene was selling them recently, at 10k if memory serves... Skilling plus the raw material cost will be higher if you do it yourself, so if your only goal is to get this armor, buy it...
Edit2: I am keeping my platinum armor, but I am trying to sell a set of electrum one, you can see it there:

Ty all for the great advice. Yes I only want this set and even though it may be wiser to buy it I sorta like the challenge of crafting it myself. My main is a 53 druid and my 1st main alt is a 47 chanter. I'll either drop transfer or ask a guildy (go Dap) for help. I am interested in the purple look once again for my daughter. I go thru spurts with this game where I get bored so this new challenge should keep me interested for a bit. This is exactly why I skilled up jewelry a few years ago with my chanter to make the Bsee and Gbse earrings( I didn't want to pay for them) and I still make money off of them today.

It will take me some time to search the WayBackMachine and whatnot, but for some reason, I thought early on in the game, only humans from their respected city could use their forge and could not use the other forge?

Good luck on that journey, it is a good one. Challenge is definitly high. You certainly will cry on failed combines :D
Pro tip : there are 3 kinds of HQ Ore (small/ large / blocks) and you can convert them in and out. 3x small = 1x large // 3x large = 1x block // 1x block = 2x large
You need about 49 large bricks of enchanted ore for full visible set (7pces). Getting your chanter up to 45 smithing also helps alot since you can forge large bricks into enchanted folded sheet metal (stackable, weight alot less). Dont forget brewing for royal temper (135 trivial, 140 to safely not waste mats). Feybank in tunnel usually sells low quantity of grifenne blood from Sky raids.

Exactly what I need to know, maybe I'll just roll a qeynos guy and get him ported to FP to be safe.

Born on qeynos, so I can definitely make the qeynos cultural, but I can also do the freeport one...

Ok so I am currently 195 smithing skill. 1-175 wasn't bad at all. 176-195 damn I blew thru 12 stacks of leather padding for them 20 points(Making fine plate visors). My wisdom is about 210 give or take 2 (I'm at work) and I would like to get to 220ish before attempting the platinum set. So is 20 skillups from 240 combines normal? Should I increase my wis to 240ish or max it? At what skill lvl is it ok to stop fine plate and go to the platinum set comfortably? I still need to gather a few more things but I got enough stuff to start cteating it I just don't want to rush it and waste the mats. Ty in advance for any info here as you all have helped immensely already.

Blacksmithing is based your STR.
I was always under the impression blacksmithing just allowed you to take your STR into account, but it's STR / WIS / INT whichever is highest.

Nope... All tradeskill can use int or wis, in addition smithing can use STR, a few other tradeskill can use other stat, but I am unsure which. What is certain is that only the highest count, meaning smithing will use your higher stat, be it int, wis or str... Since smith are frequently melee, str is an obvious choice... Also FOS is long lasting and gives a major boost, past 180 I would definitely recomand to cap str to 255, with cheapo str gear and fos it's easy for most melee, for pure int caster int might be better if you have good gear, the same goes for wis caster, through given the number and potency of str buffs, even for them str might be a good choice...

Yes, true... Unsure about tailoring, but I think most others are just int/wis

Yes, it's pretty much the norms at these skill levels.
Eqtraders advanced calculator is pretty much exact from experience... Just don't forget that these are statistics to expect, the eq RNG is a notorious fickle beast...

All tradeskills use the highest of WIS or INT to determine chance to get a skillup, unrelated to chance of skill success.
Smithing uses STR, and Fletching and Poison Making use DEX, to additionally raise your chance of successful combines. Successful combines also have a higher chance to raise your skill than failures.

Well according to that calculator I have a very slight chance to skill up at 255 as I do my current 212(confirmed). Its really slight so I will just plod on as I am as further wis upgrades are very costly at this point. In addition I am way over the number they are giving me. 9-10 per skillup and I'm at 12. RNG I guess. BTW can anyone confirm a zone to forage Rain water in? I have been in most of the karanas and nothing. I tried farming the gnolls of BB and nothing, I got 2 from the Highkeep gnolls but it was very rare.

9-10 is not significantly different to 12 with a so low sample... Particularly with a rng that frequently award nultiple skillups in a row while having frequent dryspells of 60 attempts...

It comes out at 33.33% (recurring of course) chance of survival.

Wiki is wrong about foraging rain water. It cant be foraged. Only option is gnolls... if you really struggle, hit me up, I have tons of these.

They are an uncommon drop off the gnolls in east karana, can also check the vendors near there.

Ty for this I shall set out and start mass murdering them there gnolls as well as vendor dive while there.
Diogene Ill let u know as I do have 11 so far and my goal is to have 21 tempers when I attempt the set of enchanted plate figuring 3 attempts per piece. I'm going to make fine plate until I'm about 220-225 skill.

Enchanted platinum has the highest trivial in human smithing. But honestly at 215, you should be ok with 3 attempts per piece ! Most likely at 215 you will fail one or two piece max depending on RNG. So if you got mats for 3x sets, I wouldnt be worried at all.

Pretty sure you stand over 70% of success rate at around 200 on bp and legs... Human cultural trivial is quite low

Really curious what dyes you used to get this color, as that doesn't look like any of the Fine Plate Dye colors on the chart on the wiki Blacksmithing page.

Yeah my Enchanter is only 47 and you need lvl 49 to enchant the Bars. Since I'm a cleric its no biggy but once I get 49 I will make a set and put it on a Human Bard for show.
