Dear Daybreak Community,
There has been some confusion concerning Daybreak’s ownership and rumors about the state of the company that have circulated from a few online game websites, and we want to set the record straight. We assure you that these rumors are entirely false and that there’s no impact on our business or games in any way whatsoever.
From the get-go, Daybreak has been primarily owned by Jason Epstein, a longtime investor who also has investments in a variety of media properties. Jason acquired Daybreak (formerly SOE) in February 2015 and has been the executive chairman and majority owner of the company since that time.
We’re well aware of prior statements from Daybreak indicating our company was acquired by Columbus Nova. We have since clarified that the company was acquired by Jason Epstein when he was a partner at Columbus Nova, which he left in 2017. We’ve also taken steps to clarify those facts on our website and on third-party internet sites to ensure that all of the information currently made available is consistent and accurate.
We apologize for the previous miscommunication and hope that this clears up any confusion. As always, we greatly appreciate your continued support for our games, and we'll continue to work hard to bring the best experiences to you.

You will have to pay 10% of your plat as tribute to placate Daybreak games, inc.
From their initial press release (https://web.archive.org/web/20180424175013/https://www.daybreakgames.com/press/columbus-nova-acquires-sony-online-entertainment) (that they have since deleted after this news broke):
Columbus Nova, an investment management firm based in New York, announced today that it has completed its acquisition of Sony Online Entertainment LLC (SOE), a recognized worldwide leader in massively multiplayer online (MMO) games and emergent gameplay.
...
“We are excited to join Columbus Nova’s impressive roster of companies. They have a proven track record in similar and related industries and we are eager to move forward to see how we can push the boundaries of online gaming,” said John Smedley, President, Daybreak Game Company. “We will continue to focus on delivering exceptional games to players around the world, as well as bringing our portfolio to new platforms, fully embracing the multi-platform world in which we all live.”
...
About Columbus Nova
Founded in 2000, Columbus Nova is a multi-strategy investment firm managing over $15 billion of assets through its own funds and affiliated portfolio companies. Columbus Nova has a broad investment mandate and operates four distinct but complementary investments
But yeah, it's totally likely that was just a mistake which they didn't think to clear up until three years later after that firm's holding company was sanctioned by the US government.

will this or wont this make a new p99 server happen. that is all we care about
New servers don't solve long term problems (people quitting jobs to farm manastones just to get ahead on an elf simulator, raiding politics, mudflation, etc).
What we need is a new ruleset server (teams pvp or discord).

What would solve the poop socking problem is if there were only a couple servers, each separated by a year of timeline. At the end of velious a server is reset back to blank. Ta da.. now people play the game for the enjoyment of it instead of for pixels.

Haha yeah because people only play to keep their pixels - not to stop other people from getting them .

You know there is also the possibility of an impact to the existing server. If someone else purchases the IP they may nix the stamp of approval P99 got.

This was the first thing I thought of as well, but maybe the new company will be smart enough to sell the Titanium download for $10.00 and have the P99 getting started thread link to the official download...

Or even better require a subscription for P99 and allow boxing.
I think many people are deterred from acquiring a copy of Titanium, I would have thrown down $10.00 in a second to download it from an official source. Took me awhile to nab one off Ebay... I know there are other ways to get it, but having an official download for $10.00 would make things much much easier... But a sub and the allowing of boxing? You crazy, lol...

Boxing... Just because a lot of people do it doesn't mean it is a good idea to make it allowable via policy.
Of course, there are already plenty of boxing options on other servers, free and subbed.

I just use the word "impact" now instead of affect / effect. I don't have time to figure out if I'm about to make a typo.

Typically, affect is a verb and effect is a noun.

An affect is an influence to something. An Effect is a result.

A buy out of Daybreak would not affect P99. Whoever buys them would be bound by the same agreement.

well thats one possibility sure, but there are lots of possibilities.
If you think that anyone is even mentioning p99 to anyone involved in an aqusition like this you'd be havin a laugh.
After an acquisition the contract could be null and void, if there ever even was one with daybreak and p99, who knows. I sure dont.
I personally would use it as an opportunity to just hit the switch on the discord server and hope nobody notices.

From what I understand DBG is possibly (though not really according to their PR) tied into the russian assets that are about to get the boot in June. IF that were true DBG would not be able to conduct business as is in the USA. This would be a problem for EQ.
According to the DBG PR, however, there is no issue. The company is held not by the alleged connection to the soon-to-be persona non grata Russian firm.
In the press back when SOE sold EQ to DBG there was mention of DBG being held by Columbus Nova. DBG claims that they simply never addressed this error at the time for whatever reason, but that it was wrong then and still wrong now.
