Hey folks,

I've been a player on this server for a while on and off. I've only really been at it regularly for the past year. In that time, I've been reminded that P99 is much more than a video game. It's a community. Many of you have met each other and formed very real friendships. The memories you create together are, of course, very real and meaningful. The accomplishments in game give us a justifiable sense of pride in our very real hearts.

I've been thinking a lot about this server, why it is so special, and who finds the most meaning in it. Nostalgia is a very important thing for some people. For many of us, the present time may be full of stress, poor health, toxic relationships, unfulfilling jobs, heartbreak, and any number of other negative factors. I, myself, deal with depression (the happy-go-lucky tunnel guy?! yup... me too). It comes and goes. I find that, when it comes, I am much more inclined to spend a lot more time playing immersive video games (and sleeping too much and eating fast food). This server is a special place. It is an escape for so many of us. And for so many players on this server, the past is where its preferable to be. These raids may bring some players back to a time in their lives when things were simpler. Running through an old zone may help someone to feel more connected to a person they may have lost in their life. These things matter.

Sometimes, unfortunately, we're not always great at managing our mental health. Sometimes, unfortunately, we get pulled into cycles of treating other people poorly, projecting our own insecurities onto others, and abdicating our responsibility for our own behavior. Sometimes it takes the form of trolling. The point is, this server and this incredible sense of nostalgia and connection to our past is something that attracts many types of players, including those who may feel broken, hopeless, angry, sad, alone, abandoned, etc.

I just want to remind everyone reading this post that you are not only a part of this community, you're integral to this community. More than that, this community is here for you. I'm here for you. Feel free to vent about your work day here, share an uplifting story, memory, etc. Feel free to ask for help here. Feel free to be open and honest here. Some may troll, hopefully not. But if they do, try to understand that they are probably hurting even more than you. Anyway, hopefully this reminds everyone to take care of themselves and that it's never too late to look inward, take stock, and begin to work on yourself. You can be whatever version of yourself you want to be.

If anyone needs help finding a therapist who takes their insurance, feel free to check out THIS WEBSITE (https://www.psychologytoday.com/us/therapists). good video, we don't have the proper resources to handle what hes talking about. many of the mental health facilities shut down in mid 80's to early 90's, the money was allocated elsewhere. whats the point in mental health, in w/e country, if there are still zealots ready to oppress/kill you all over the world. Humanity has a long way to go before we can start caring for such things on a proper scale.

I'm curious what you mean. You're saying that, because there are people elsewhere in the world who would do us harm, we shouldn't focus on our health? That seems counter intuitive to me. If other people in the world mean to harm our health, we should put extra care and focus toward protecting our health, no? Personally, I think whether or not anyone means us harm, we should still care about our well being and put as much effort and as many resources toward it as possible.

Another wave of closings happened around 2006(?) or so, at least in the midwest. Agreed though, it would be a massive undertaking and unlikely to happen as he mentioned to towards the end.

Closing of mental health facilities across the US = direct correlation with rise of EQ. The evidence is conclusive friends. EQ is officially a virtual insane asylum.

I'm sorry, but your post is too well-spoken, mature, thoughtful, and heartfelt for this forum. I'm afraid its meaning will be lost by most of its readers. I applaud your reaching out, however. I, for one, enjoyed it and agree with your assessments of the community, its significance, and the game's relationship to mental health issues.

The "you can't love others until you love yourself" thing is mostly bullcrap. If you want self-esteem, then do esteemable things. You can't just decide to have self-esteem, and you can't just decide to love yourself. Actions are what counts.

Brain chemical shenanigans aside, a lot of depression is caused by excessive focus on self. It's understandable we do that, it's by nature and it's sure as hell encouraged by our culture, but if you want to feel better STOP THINKING ABOUT YOU and go help somebody else.

Summer of 99 was camping some Rubicite in the throne room in Cazic Thule. The zone typically had 40-50 people in it all humping the dream of red armor. The throne room has two groups in it by itself, one group pulling to each side of the entrance area. Well apparently the group camping Avatar of Fear got overwhelmed but what was unique was that due to its location most groups just died badly down in the camp. Not this time. The avatar of Fear made it up to the Top floor, along with every mob between. There was so much carnage, so many lives cut short. The blood was ankle deep in some spot, the temple floor the same shade as the rubicite armor we had all come seeking. It truly was one of the great massacres I’ve ever witnessed on this game and it still haunts my dreams to this day. Being a paladin I was able to survive but some days I wish I hadn’t.

Understanding Personality Disorders
Personality disorders are deeply ingrained ways of thinking and behaving that are inflexible and generally lead to impaired relationships with others. Mental health professionals formally recognize 10 disorders that fall into three clusters, although there is now known to be much overlap between the disorders, each of which exists on a spectrum:

Cluster A — Odd or eccentric disorders, including paranoid personality disorder, as well as schizoid and schizotypal personalities.

Cluster B — Dramatic or erratic disorders, including narcissistic personality disorder, histrionic personality disorder, and borderline personality disorder.

Cluster C — Anxious or fearful disorders, including avoidant personality disorder, dependent personality disorder, and obsessive-compulsive personality disorder.

The gate to self love is self-care. Even if you don't love yourself you start to learn to by taking care of yourself whether you want to or not.

It sounds like you are experiencing some post-traumatic stress. Are there any particular things in your day-to-day life that you experience that take you back to this moment?

The most difficult aspect of clinical work is trying to ascertain where the mental illness ends and the personality begins. Except for borderline personality disorder. That one really jumps out.

I'm glad you appreciated it. I'm hoping that everyone, even those who replied with jokes, will take something from it - even if it's just to think about doing something good for themselves or someone else on a daily basis.

I love this sentiment and I agree with the bit you said about focusing on others. If you spend your time helping others and doing good for them in general, you will undoubtedly gain a sense of pride, accomplishment, and your heart will feel fuller. It can be as simple as sending a nice message to someone, letting them know what they mean to you or that you're thinking of them. Ask someone how they're doing, but mean it. Make plans to catch up with an old friend. When someone complains about a rough time they're having, avail yourself to help them. Volunteer your time to help those less fortunate than yourself. So many ways to fill your heart by giving yourself to others.
