I concede that point but linguistically you actually do the same thing.

Like applications goes to apps

We just have to figure out why it's plural

I think the word 'Math' refers to multiple sciences, like geometry or physics, etc. So if someone is good at a bunch of different sciences, they call that person a 'polymath'. If they are referring to a group of sciences or science in general, they say 'Maths'. In murrican 'Math' only mean one thing, and its the thing I ignored most in high school.

There are many ways to define or explain what Mathematica is .
One way is to say that Mathematica is "a system for doing mathematics by computer " , which is also the title of a book by Stephen Wolfram .

Another way is to say that Mathematica is " The world's definitive system for modern technical computing" , which is how Mathematica is described at the website .

For more details , it can be said that Mathematica is a general purpose computer algebra system which was initially released in 1988 . It is a computer system designed to carry out complex mathematical computations and calculations .
The kernel is the computational engine of Mathematica , and the front end is the interface between the user(s) and the kernel . The representative instrument of this interface is the Mathematica notebook . The packages form another essential part of Mathematica .

Mathematica integrates symbolic and numerical calculations , graphics and visualization , programming , documentation , and dynamic interactivity into one big ensemble .
Mathematica can be used by mathematicians , physicists and scientists as well as by engineers , students , amateur mathematicians and anyone who likes to experiment (on a computer) with math and science .
