Hello!
Im a completely new player to everquest, and my first character just hit lvl 17, and people told me to look up on eq wiki how to advance further.
As i was browsing the wiki i found the ranger character creation menu, and it said that i put my 20 starter stats to the wrong stat. (i put 20 to dexterity instead of str)
Should i restart my character, or can i later fix this issue?
Thx for the replies:

Doesn't really matter that much. Since it's your first char and it generally takes longer to level, you might want to just stick with it.
If you really feel like restarting, hit me up via PM here or in game and I'll get you to level 10 or maybe a little further.

Don't sweat it. DEX should help you with your archery hits as well as proc rates (unless I am mistaken).

Don't worry about it.
You'll easily hit the STR hard cap at end game (it's much easier than you'd think) and you put it in DEX which helps bow damage [citation needed] and weapon procs, so you're fine.

Unfortunately you probably should - 17 is pretty quick. Otherwise your entire eq life you’ll wish you had more strength...and btw str is the most undervalued stat imo

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm pretty sure bow damage scales off of STR here.
Edit: @OP If you want to reroll, do it now before you invest any more time into your character. If you reroll and want to min-max, make sure you pick Tunare as your deity.
Also, you should reroll if you picked a Half-elf, because Half-elves are dumb.

Maybe you're right.
I know STR raises ATK, which probably improves bow damage. It probably applies to all weapons.

I'd stick with it. It's easy to find gear with STR. My ranger is 54 and has okay gear and I sit at 230 self buffed.

Nothing really matters.
The true slogan of Rangers.

I'd leave it as is. When you get higher, you'll start wanting proccing weapons, and you will find yourself very glad you rolled so much dex. Leave as be is my advice. And yeah, archery crits too, but lets face it that's not huge in this era.

I think, in the long run, the +DEX is more beneficial to you than the +STR. STR is easy to max out with gear and self buffs.

Yep, fos fixes all your str problem at max level... Pretty trivial to max str with fos

It effects bow crits and procs. You get Call of Sky at 39 and Call of Fire at 55, both nice self procs. Plenty of ranger weapons proc too so it's a great stat.
STR and hps/ac are your main goals. Capping STR is very easy; one high level shammy str buff is for 60. I'd prob just keep plugging away at this toon. Level > All else.

It's way more important to be Tunare.

I was under the impression that procs from spells/buffs (such as the call of x line) are not affected by DEX. Correct me if I'm wrong.

As far as I know, he is correct.
Spell based procs have a fixed proc rate, unaffected by DEX.
Weapon based procs use DEX (plus a item base proc rate modifier, probably).
To OP: DEX is fine! Stats matter at least a hundred times less than you think right now in this game ;)

Gear for AC primarily with hp and Magic resist as the second consideration. Gearing this way nets you lots of strength (or did in my experience).

Alright. Is there a reference? Mine was just hearsay, and observed experience that +dex made self procs go off more. You sound more sure than that.
After googling around, I find evidence both for and against.

Troxx sounds pretty definitive itt : https://www.project1999.com/forums/showthread.php?t=284998
But still, I'd like to see an external reference.
