View Full Version : /outputfile: Check what's in your bank when you're not near a city

I heard about this command awhile ago, forgot about it, and then re-discovered it, and since it's pretty handy I thought I'd share. If you type:

/outputfile inventory

EQ will generate a file called "inventory.txt" that lists everything you're carrying and everything you have in the bank. This can be handy if you want to get the text of everything your character is wearing so that you can make a wiki Magelo (http://wiki.project1999.com/Magelo) for them ... or if you just can't remember what's in your bank but you're sitting in a dungeon.

You can also give it a different file name by doing:

/outputfile inventory some.other.file.name.txt

Seriously though, this is a cool command. I'll give it a shot. Seems helpful for checking if I have a lore item sitting in the bank that I'm not 100% sure is there.

List of not classic things on this server is long. A lot of them put there purposely by the devs. Get used to it.

Oh no, it's a quality of life feature that makes people's lives easier - quick someone notify Wedar to get rid of it

Looking further into this, you can also use:

/outputfile spellbook
/outputfile raid
/outputfile guild

The guild one would be interesting. Wondering if it captures all online members, even ones who are /anon. I'm always curious how many DaP are online since most of us remain /anon a large chunk of the time.

But first off, this is Blue, not Green, so "classic" comes with air quotes. The way I see it, I didn't do Chardok AoE (nor did I take advantage of any other non-classic cheese, unless you count killing Seafuries before the drop nerf), so even if I use this command it still puts me way ahead of a lot of people on this server :p

Second, this might just be one of those "built-in to the Titanium client" things that can't be fixed, and so like it or not it could be a "classic" part of Project 1999.

Either way, let's all just enjoy this simple quality of life improvement, for however long it lasts here.

Are you the one that lost us spell sets?

Technically the P99 dev team is responsible for us losing ... well, everything non-classic.

I made a script a couple years ago to format your output files for creating/updating a wiki magelo profile.

https://magelo.herokuapp.com/

I've been too lazy for the last 3 years to un-duct-tape it and update it.

I don't see why this is a problem? There is a lot of times when I don't remember what some of my characters are holding or have in the bank. This way I can just open a text file and see who has what and makes my game-life easier then logging in each character one at a time to find a certain weapon or item...

Same reason you can't have spell timers... They weren't there in 1999 - 2001. Want to know what MMORPGs were like originally before they were filled with modern day conveniences? Welcome to P99.

You are at the mercy of the nilbog.

So having a text file of your characters equipment in their inventory and bank is not classic? I better call Bill Gates and tell him to remove Notepad from Windows so we can't make text files anymore... :D

I still don't see how this has any effect on the game itself?

To answer your question it is most definitely NOT classic to have that ability at the tip of your fingers. You know full well this has nothing to do with programs outside EQ, but gameplay and convenience features.

/outputfile inventory saves you time of course, but so do a bunch of other non-combat related mechanics. Where do you stop? I mentioned buff timers, that is convenience and helps you manage spell castng better. /autoinventory helps you forage easier and complete quests like bone chips in very rapid succession. Pet window gives you more buttons available for spell casting and pet commands.

Oh, and in classic you couldn't have more than 2 bags open at once. Imagine searching through your bags / bank / alt for an item that way. Bye bye guild Sky bank alt with a ton of items.

Best to keep it classic if you want to experience this game like it was in all its glory. I like these little nuances, it's nostalgic.

You don't know what they are because they are a feature in a video game you don't play.

No, i just prefer to hit auto attack and flying kick. Takes much concentration to keep it off refresh constantly. Caster classes are far above me.

Even if it had been in the classic game it wouldn't have mattered. You couldn't alt-tab to check the file anyway. I'd love to hear about someone not alt-tabbing because it's not classic. I'd bet even ALS folk aren't above alt-tabbing to check the wiki or watch netflix while sitting at a boring camp.
