I came across this thread, very interesting read about some of the sounds in EQ... I never really play with sound on since it annoys my wife, so never knew if these sounds are in P99. But it definitely took me back, folks be missing out by playing on mute or listening to music!

For those who have trekked to City of Mist you will notice the Apparitions and alike say over and over "DIE!" as you are fighting them. Nice little touch...

I never knew they were saying this, but seem to remember a creepy voice

I realize this comment will probably never see print, but I know that the Mountain Giants in Frontier Mountains also mutter "Mountain" under their breath. Just thought I'd point that one out.

Most giants in "run away" mode say
"Goin' back... to the mountain"
(couldn't tell if that one was a joke or serious)

I almost fell out of my chair the other day when the creepy-looking Drachnid Widow that the group had Mes'd was politely sitting on her little spider-legs, and (well, since I was taunting her and was right nearby, and the battle sounds were quiet), I heard what I swear was her saying "Scaaaaaary" in that creepy, high-pitched spider voice.

Velious Frost Giants say HO HO HO.

I was running from Freeport to Guk, and the first thing I heard when entering Oasis of Marr ... seagulls.

It took me COMPLETELY by surprise! In the year and a half that I have been playing, I never heard seagulls in-game.

Then I started listening carefully to my sounds. I play with headphones. And I had such a delightful surprise!

Tjirp-tjirp of crickets in Feerott.
Tweet-tweet of birds in nearly every outdoor zone. Hehe, they had quite a calming effect on me when I zoned in somewhere with some big mob on my tail.
Water running at some river areas.

These sounds are not crystal clear and loud in your ears. I don't think many people notice them, but I urge everyone to start listening closely. Stand invis next to an orc pawn for a while and you hear him rumble. Follow a griffon close and listen to him. Set your sound to max, sit down in the middle of nowhere, and start listening...

Most interesting to me was this mention about Thurgadin, ran around there a bunch and hailed with sounds up but never heard any voices:
There actually are other voices in the game. When in Thurgadin the coldain dwarves speak a few phrases I believe. I swear it always sounds like they keep calling me a big baboon

You want voices? How about the ones while your in the forests? Like Greater Faydark. When there is nothing else close by. Sounds like the wind is saying "Wrong way"... or maybe that's just me.

Best ambient sounds in the game are inside the entrance to Crushbone...on the Gfay side.
It truly sounds spooky in there...echoing mutters of unseen orcs, snarls.

I seem to recall, unless its just my imagination, the beggar in East Freeport by the WFP zone line saying "Spare any change?"

Ya, is in the link, but figured most people knew about that already.

Great find. I love how deep and mysterious EQ is. I've definitely heard the Thurg dwarves saying something weird as I run past them.

I really want to know if the Giants in FM say 'goin back to the mountain!'. Gonna kill a few with volume on 100%!

It sounds to me the frogs in guk say Geronimo win they are hit. You probably have to be close to them to here it.
