View Full Version : Idea to resolve permanent camping/MQing of Epic quest items for MQ purposes

I started to play on p1999 around the end of January 2018 after quitting EQ live back in 2006. Now, I am finally getting my characters through most of the pieces needed for the their Epic quest turn ins, but have come across the bottlenecks for each class. The mage Earth Staff Multi Quest(MQ) is now at 800K the last time I looked and the Shaman Tear MQ is at 100k. I was personally never able to get my epic items on my characters on live due to the fact I was not able to devote the time needed for raiding the mobs that drop the pieces. Now that I am able to raid for the pieces, I find it disheartening that the main high-end guilds on this server have these items perma-camped not due to need for their members but for greed MQing the epic items. So many members of the guild I am in have been playing for years and have been unable to obtain a crucial item, like the Tear for the Shaman and the Earth staff for the mage, due to this problem.

MY PROPOSED SOLUTION is to make all the epics quest item pieces unMQable. There are so many other quest items that cannot be MQed and I think the Epic item pieces should be added to that list. This way people like me and others that love the game and have played for years without be able to achieve this character milestone can finally accomplish this momentous task without having to save up massive amounts of pp due to others perma camping the mobs for greed.

I would love to hear other people's thoughts on this matter.

So basically outrage incoming

800k? I can think of 1 item worth 800k or more, and Earth Staff isn't it.

Epics used to be and are still meant to be difficult to obtain. If everyone had an epic then they wouldn't be special. If you want an epic you're going to have to put in the time either way.

And yeah, the ability to sell loot rights makes this a bad idea.

OP no. you're stepping into a space where people have played this game for years over and over on the principal of questing and progressing and selling and playing and living in everquest and Epic MQ's are a backbone of this world.

I know you want to just play this game casually and make your childhood dreams come true without sacraficing something IRL but this is an alternate real world you're in now so have respect of the physics of this universe!

Seems there's a lot of people making money off one MQ or another here.

If you want an epic you probably need to either join Aftermath or start grinding lots of Highkeep guards :o

Or camp the mobs yourself.

I find it hard to believe your guild favors getting MQ money over you getting your epic.

If that's honestly the case, you need to find a new guild.

I understand the frustration.

I did my Rogue's epic back before the level 46 requirement and sales were everywhere.

It was the easiest epic, so it was popular to camp.

My Rogue was my first character on the server, and naturally I didn't have money, so it was frustrating waiting 12 hours at a camp behind another who already had his epic.

But it's just the way things go, man.

I play a Necro now and when it comes time to get my epic, I will probably go the MQ route (although I do want to challenge myself...)

With 2 repops a month on top of normal spawn cycles, is any gear "hard to get" anymore?

I understand what you're trying to say, but the reality of your idea is counter-intuitive. You'd end up with less epics on the server if there were no MQ's. Some of those epic MQ's are so valuable because they're so ungodly rare. If they weren't MQable, you'd be left with two choices:

1.) Join Aftermath and pray to the gods the ultra rare epic piece drops while you're at the raid and that you have enough DKP to outbid everyone else.

2.) Talk to an officer at Aftermath and try to purchase the loot rights to the ultra rare epic drop, and pray to the gods that you're online when and if the item ever drops at 4:07 AM on a Tuesday without the batphone heads up. The price of which, by the way, has now gone up by triple because the item is no longer MQable and so now much more rare.

Would it be nice if people weren't so greedy on a 19 year old elf sim? Sure. But your solution would only create more problems and lead to far fewer epics. At least now you can choose to either put in the time in a top level guild, or put in the time earning plat to save up for those items on your own terms.

OP, best thing to do is have some fun here and then leave the server. For a break or forever. When Kunark dropped on this box, there was an epic showdown between cool normal people, and people who farm epic MQ's for 2+ years straight. The cool normal people are no longer playing here. They lost, and now it's the server culture and you cannot change it.

When the server finally withers, the last 80 people online when the plug gets pulled will be the farm crews scrambling to sell each other epic MQ's in the final ten minutes.

Learn to have fun without your epic, or cuck yourself by farming a million plat in ransom. Them's the breaks.

The main high end guilds don't have those items permacamped. You can kill magi with like 3 or 4 people, the problem is the earth staff just never drops.

I started to play on p1999 around the end of January 2018 after quitting EQ live back in 2006.

You've been playing on this server for less than 5 months and you already think you're entitled to a mage staff? There are people on this server that have been here for nearly a decade that still don't have an Earth staff.

Millennials...

Oh, you're right, I misread that post. An all no drop server would just be weird; it wouldn't really even be EverQuest.

To be fair, I think you're misunderstanding or misrepresenting his point. OP isn't asking for an epic item to be given to him, which would be entitled. He's offering what he thought was a solution to a problem from his viewpoint, to allow more players the opportunity to complete their epics while reducing a pseudo-monopoly built from greed. It doesn't really matter how long he's played here or how long someone else has gone without any of the items in question, his opinion is still just as valid as anyone's.

The problem is, it's not keeping with the spirit of the server. And it wouldn't work even if implemented, as it would just cause more problems and less epics.

OP is likely just frustrated, as we've all been in this game at various points, either on live or here on P99. The endgame is a marvelous shitshow, of that I think almost everyone is in agreement - and he'll either embrace the grind, or walk away and move to something else. But there's no need to be dismissive of him or to equate him to an entitled millennial. Just my two cents.

What he means is that you can *maybe* finish your epic bottleneck piece if the mega guild alt #981039 doesnt get it first and if the farm crew selling their 500th mq doesnt beat you to it. Have fun learning how to "get skilled"
