I know I’m a little out of the loop here but can anyone elaborate on this “green” server that everyone keep mentioning?

I was just about to start a new thread on this. my question is when will green open? I don't want to put too much time into a new character if green will be launching soon.

Green will most definitely not be launching "soon". The devs still need to finish Chardok 2.0, fix any bugs in it, implement the smaller patches that come after it, fix whatever mountain of unfixed issues they have lying around, and then create a brand new server and load the shiny new Green code on to it.
Oh, and on the support side they have to figure out how they're going to deal with the nightmarish camp fights that will inevitably arise over mana orbs and guises. When you consider all that, and remember that Velious took seven years to develop, you can realistically expect Green to be at least a couple of years off.

A guide metioned chardok was done and green will be coming soon. Update your wiki guide.

If it's valve's definition of soon than half life 3 confirmed.

There are less than 5 people in the world who are both interested and capable of coding for p99.. keep that in mind

Yeah, I don't think most people realize how hard it is to want to be a dev here.
To code for P99 you have to give up playing on P99. In other words, you have to not only be a semi-competent C++ programmer who is willing to work for free, you also have to either:
A) love P99 so much that you are willing to never play on it again just so you can make it better for other people, or
B) love emulated EQ servers so much that you're willing to code for a server you can never play on
Either way it's a tough sell, and we should all appreciate our devs more.

What about Pink99?

So... green is basically what blue was at first launch? A restart so to speak of classic>kunark>velious. Or am I wrong no one really answered my question lol

except for the fact that it will roll out the patches and expansion's in the same amount of time / days that they came out originally rather than spending 5years in kunark

Yes and no. You have to keep in mind that Blue has always been a sort of beta server, and when it launched it had TONS of bugs relative to today. For instance mobs didn't exist, or were in the wrong places, or dropped the wrong loot. I didn't play back then so I don't know the details, but there were the most bugs and missing content at the project's beginning.
In contrast Green will not be a beta server. This whole time the devs have been using everything they've learned from Blue, and kept every fix they've made, so that when Green is released it will function as close as absolutely possible to how live functioned. Plus since they won't have to develop anything new they can release each patch along the original classic timeline.
TLDR; The launch of both Blue and Green means the start of a fresh timeline, but Blue's launch was like paying for super special alpha access to a MMOG, while Green's launch will be like that of a normal MMOG release (from a competent company).

The ugly truth about Green is that true classic timeline is too short to fit anyone but the hardest of hard neckbeards. The problem is intractable. That is why they changed the core game loop with Luclin, they had no other choice.
I'm sticking with Blue, the chill server, in perpetuity. :o

Now that I know the concept of green I probably wouldn’t play it. I missed the launch years of p1999 but we’re in velious, I made my character in 2014, and I’m still only lvl 38 on my main. You could say my commitment is pretty loose :D

How did we cope in 1999-2001? I know I missed a lot of the content by the time Looselin arrived despite goofing around a lot and making alts :p

Nobody really knew the game I guess. But well, we didn't? It was toxic as hell in 1999-2001. They literally changed the core game loop of EverQuest after Velious because of how toxic the game had become.

Take solace in knowing you didn't miss much. I was there. The "good old days" weren't so good. P1999 originated as a sort of stopgap option while the community waited for another classic emulator (which has since fallen through) and had none of the quality it's now associated with. Instead it played like the semi-broken mess stereotypical of emulators. The population was small and nothing worked right. P1999 didn't feel reasonably mature until about 2011-2012 or so.
A "green" server, if it ever exists, will feel vastly different than P1999's early days--different and largely superior. It won't be a re-hash. Mechanics will work right, and due to greater community awareness the population should be much higher.
