I keep getting a "cannot establish a connection to server, please ensure you have an internet connection" message upon login through my sort cut.

Is it possible my toons account was purged? Or, could I be having a network/installation issue?

That doesn't sound like your account is missing...more like a technical issue.

download and install the latest patch

if you login to an empty account go back and pick the right server!

necro will be easier 50-60 with charming. You can still swam as a Bard with a 25 mob limit but I have always found swarming to be mind numbing and not really viable

Your AoE can only apply the DoT to 25 mobs per cast, you can still kite way more than 25 at a time. Agreed on the mind numbing, but it is still the fastest way to level by far.

A very, very small handful still play. Most moved to Agnar on live. (Or quit all together and moved on with life)

(And by small I mean maybe 5 people at most)
