Favorite zone and least favorite zone?

What is your favorite zone?
upper Guk. Everything about the zone brings challenge and fun to it. The loot is reasonably good, exp can be great, but the danger is REAL. The zone can be so disorienting that even with a map, it's hard to figure out where the hell I am sometimes.

What is your least favorite zone?
Estate of Unrest. It reminds me of Halloween, my least favorite holiday. It's always camped by neck beards, the danger is not that real because zone line is so easy to get to. It unrest reminds me of something out of Scooby Doo.

My favorite is Plane of Sky - Not because of how the zone works (its key system is stupid imo) or any of its loot. Simply for the design of the zone... the floating islands with chains hanging off them i think is really cool

Favorite: Crystal Caverns -- The music, camp spots, lore, isolation I love it all.

Least Favorite: SolB (with solA a close second) -- I do not understand the appeal for SolA or SolB! I have been playing this game off and on for about 18 years and I still for the life of me get so turned around and lost in that place! It's honestly to the point where I will refuse group invites in the zone. I just do not like dealing with the confusion.

I know it wasnt asked but there is a zone I've never hunted in or explored that really intrigues me, that is Dragons Necropolis. The lore and the knowledge that Zlandicar resides inside is super exciting! I would love to experience it sometime (maybe even a Zlandicar Raid!!) but just haven't yet.

Hate- LFay.. Does anybody ever actually leave the wall that leads to either MM, or Gfay? Furthest i went from the zone wall was to find the fancy Unicorn for Epic.

Love- Steamfont Mountains- Always a special place in my heart for my first toon ever. Haha side note- Never killed a single thing in that zone since joining P99...

Favorite zone: Plane of Mischief. Home zone. Praising Bristlebane most! Am his humble pirate Puppet nows and always. Funny layout most; charmable animals with funny names. :o

Worst zone: Sebilis. Encourages of tedious min-max for random drops hour afters hour. Yawn. Elfmans sit all day killing trash, hopings maybe frogmans drop rare thingers. Frogmans never does.

Favorite -- Mistmoore. MM gets a ton of shit because it's part of the "standard" leveling path, but it has everything. Gargoyles, dark brooding themes, torture areas, a spawling castle that I bet 90% of P99 hasn't even seen all of. I have a ton of nostalgia for the zone too, having leveled there on live.

Least Favorite -- Kedge Keep. Someone else already said it, but by Tunare that piece of watery trash is awful.

Favorite - PoM for sure. A passion project of zone development, that managed to find its way to live servers. The rewards, the zone layout, the monsters, top to bottom this zone is magnificent.

Favorite: great divide. Spent lots of my time there on live murking giants and wolves plus coldains and the secret waterfall entrance to thurgadin is tight.

Least favorite : probably gonna have to go with west karana you can guess why.

Least Favorite: West Karana. Let's make a GIANT zone with no content. It's exceptional in the scale of its blandness.

It’s interesting your favorite is Kedge. I actually really like DC aesthetically and love the challenge it presents to get to Unrest. I had quite the adventure there at level 13 playing a Freeport bound Cecily that culminated in Ravager from Vesica Dei giving me a suit of Ravenscale when I got back from my 2nd or 3rd death.

Least: Kedge, Lfay because of unicorn brownie gangbangs and I still don't know what a safe route is

Least Favorite: Lesser Faydark: Not dangerous enough for high level hunting. Too dangerous for new players.

It's not just DC, I always thought many EQ tunnels were made long on purpose, as a timesink. Off of the top of head, this also applies to Neriak and FV.

Yeah not surprising. After watching those Pantheon streams, and listening to them talk about the medding situation, and how there will still be downtime for medding, which they do on purpose to engage in planning, conversations, and all that good stuff that comes with communicating :) But it makes you wonder.. What were they thinking designing the EC tunnel?! Just that entire tunnel, and 3 lonely vendors? I can't imagine they knew it would used as a player run trading area..

I think there are a lot of places where the original EQ devs left room to add stuff in the future. The tunnels to FV seem like a perfect example of that to me: they'd be a great place to stick a random quest NPC. There's also tons of empty houses in cities, giant (relatively) empty zones like the Karanas, etc. I'm sure some of it was just to "make the world feel big", but some of it really feels to me like it was purposefully left "blank" so it could be filled-in later.

Unfortunately after they built the zones it seems everyone was more interested in creating new zones than going back and adding to the old ones (stuff like the Luclin-era Qeynos badge quests were relatively rare) ... but I suppose that leaves plenty of space for custom content someday (maybe) :)

Idk man....people whining about big old zones, having to run, and the fact that it takes time to get places...That's one of the reasons EQ is great imo. Maximum immersion :D

This is also coming from a b who enjoys long walks through WK for no particular purpose, though. :confused:

Favorite - Sebilis. I have a lot of nostalgia love for this zone, I spent many hours there on live. I was seriously disappointed when Luclin came it and it turned into a ghost town. Now I get to go there again!

Least favorite - Burning woods. I really, really hate Kunark trees. It's a constant battle just to not get turned around and lost in that zone.

Kunark trees and shaded, bump mapped textures would probably make EC / WK feeel better, but they screwed up with revamping EC and Freeport. N ro and oasis wasn't so bad.

Favorite Dungeon - Sol A. I didn't make it here until p99. I am crazy impressed how much it feels like a D&D dungeon. The attention to detail is amazing. Crawling through here is exciting. You could spend two weeks here and discover something new every time. Not to mention fantastic XP and loot. Honorable mention: TOFS.

Least favorite dungeon: Crushbone. Never really had a good time grouping here on live or p99. Too chaotic. TOO MANY NOOBS. I usually skip it now.

Favorite Outdoors - Steamfont. Just feels like home. Probably because I mained a gnome on live. Honorable mention: ocean zones.

Least favorite outdoor: EJ. I swear I get lost everytime I go there.

Favorite city: Rivervale. I mean c'mon. It is great there. Everyone is having fun.

Favorite Zones: Sol A and Upper Guk. The pinnacle of MMO dungeon design IMO. Spent countless hours in each zone and still love it. If I took a 20 year break I would probably still remember how to navigate them.

What a great question. Warsliks Woods is probably my favorite zone. I have a lot of good memories from the giant fort and brute caves, kiting random drachnists and hoping for good loot, trying to get the named iksar bandit to spawn, learning to charm scaled wolves. I also really ended up enjoying Dalnir (though I hated it at first), learning to kill the various casters and eventually being able to xp to the very bottom.

Least favorite is probably The Overthere. I don't hate it, but it's so much of the same mobs with no exciting loot. I remember on Live, lots of people grouping up and xp'ing there. I did it a few times but found it boring.

Favorite(s): Unrest and LGuK - Unrest is a beast of a zone for that soloer type as you can easy and quickly go 12-40 here soloing away. LGuK I used to hate but once I learned it it became a favorite zone. Between Unrest and LGuK you can go 12-60 if you wanted too no problems.

Least Favorite: Burning Woods - big open zone with hidden entry/exits and sow buffed Sarnark Knights that wreck you if you can't root/pell there sows off, also ditto on Kedge Keep that zone was is a cluster fuck.

My all-time favorite is probably the Ocean of Tears. There was a morbidly masochistic pleasure that could be attained by camping the Ancient Cyclops there. It was also great fun to be a complete dick to others doing the same (especially as a Necromancer) by strategically utilizing the nearby Seafuries. Also, what life would be complete without at least one poopsock?

Least favorite: Kedge Keep. I have an awful memory of soloing in that zone that I keep trying to subconsciously repress. I actually bound my old Mage underwater (on purpose) there and later passed out drunk at the keyboard (not on purpose). When I came to some hours later, the ghastly pile of corpses would have even made a necromancer throw up in their mouth a little bit. Oh, the horror.

I think I went from 55 down to around a high 47. I vividly remember how bad losing 54 was and wanting to just throw the computer out the fucking second story window in its entirety. Thank god for dialup and slow-ass loading times back then, I guess. It was probably like 9-10 good months of play down the shitter.

Favorite: Kael Drakkel

The place is literally BIG. The arena is breathtaking and remains awe-inspiring 18 years later. The music is awesome. I can grind there for hours and still come back over and over again for more giant killing or more quests. The quests are great. The loot is great. The giants are friendly if you bring proper tribute. They have the best alcohol and the best food.

Side note, don't park here. ToV has better loot. If you park here you're just bad and you should feel bad

Worst: Western Wastes

Favorite: Eastern Wastes. Ring quests and white snowy nostalgia where you can actually see if stuff is going to path into you.

Worst: Any dark, horrible Kunark forest where you can't friggin see if something is about to gank you. Lost my friends corpse in EJ back in the day and have been traumatized ever since.

Favorites - kedge, felt like this zone was all mine before epics and after epics the zone is still all mine mind the few druids and mages working on epics.

sol b- lots of camps for different levels, able to solo in there as a druid, racing for ragefires, naggys, or king tranix is some classic fun

least favorites- sirens' grotto, I dont mind this zone for hunting in but I really hate that I have to go thru this zone to get to WW. This would be like if people have to zone thru kedge to get to MM. Interesting idea, bad execution

ANY CITY THAT HAS MULTIPLE ZONES - Neriak, Freeport, Qeynos why are these cities split into so many sections when places like the Ocean of Tears are the size of two maps. Maybe having Freeport split between malita and paladins or Qeynos divided between the guards. But why is Neriak three zones?

favorite = Lower Guk. Even though I don't go there much anymore it has the biggest nostalgia factor for me. Still get goosebumps when a Assassin, Supplier, Executioner, Evil-eye, King, Frenzied, GL or AM spawns.

least favorite = Cazic Thule tied with Wakening Lands. Even though I actually like the zone Cazic Thule there are way too many cleric lizards and they heal each other through the walls all over the place. As far as Wakening Lands I think they ruined its potential with far too many trees. You cant even enjoy any of the sights other than the POG tower. Very lame in execution but cool concept for a zone.
