It is with a deep sadness that I inform the server community of the death of one of our long-time members, Fingon. Sadly, Fingon was involved in an automobile accident and died on Thursday, August 16, 2018.

Fingon was one of my first choices as an officer of <Taken> when I assumed the guild leader position and he remained an officer for the many years that I was there. I knew from my previous interactions with him that he was what we needed in the leadership. He had a wealth of knowledge about Everquest, having spent many years playing it when it was first launched and above all, was always a mature, honest and fair person with great integrity. He always supported the guild’s direction (even when he disagreed) and always voiced his opinion on issues being decided. He worked tirelessly behind the scenes and developed strategies to overcome some new encounters which we as a guild were having difficulty with. He was a great raid leader and loved what he did on P99.

Of course, the majority of us who knew Fingon will remember how much fun he was to group and raid with. He was always ready to stop what he was doing to help others with a CR, a quest or to give them a port. Fingon really loved raiding with the guild and he was a pleasure to have lead the raids. I can’t count the number of times that we had a great laugh with Fingon while raiding when he’d make some slight misjudgment and wind up getting the unwanted attention of mobs we were fighting (usually right after admonishing the guild members to be careful and don’t draw agro!). Cromcruach reminded me of the time we were raiding sky and Fingon was cautioning people to be careful around the edges of the island, followed a moment later with “oh shit, I fell off!” Laughter ensued and we of course, never let Fingon forget these moments.

Thank you for taking time to remember our lost friend. He will be sorely missed.

Fingon was a great guy, He made you smile every time you loged on.
Our guild members figured out that if we could trick him to take a DT intentionally or unintentionally, we could be sure that we would get great loot during our raids. (sometimes our members help with making sure that "something" happened just to play it safe) never once did I hear him get angry over anything ingame.
Always kind and helpful.

He will be missed!

Ill never forget the time he told everyone to jump out of Sky for a raid target then seconds later says No wait!

Just so many memories being on raids w this guy and even all the behind the scenes stuff he did as an officer. Amazing friend with countless memories and he even had his own catch phrases. One of a kind who will be missed but his legend will remain alive.

I remember Fingon all throughout the <Taken> days... solid dude who had a lot to offer. Sorry to hear of this news and the loss the community has suffered. Was always fun to talk with as he was indeed quite the character. All the best to his family and friends!

if he had family, would be nice of us to send them our thoughts. would probably mean a lot to them knowing that there are people that spoke and thought so highly of him. even if it was all for pretend.

Oh man! I totally forgot about that time in Sky! I think half the raid had jumped off.. Man I laughed so hard at that. It's okay though, we deducted the cost in Sky Stones to get everyone back up from his DKP payments. :D

Also, re: Crom's comment about the DT's. Once Fingon bit it, we all would comment on how "Now it's a raid! Fingon got DT'd!"

Very sad news, I’m sorry for his family’s loss. Frequently contrary, and always there to help, Fingon was one the most colourful characters I knew in this silly game.

Fingon was High King over the Noldor of Beleriand in Tolkien's Silmarillion. He died in the tragic Battle of Unnumbered Tears, slain by Gothmog, Lord of the Balrogs.

"Of all the children of Finwe [Fingon] is justly most renowned: for his valour was as a fire and yet as steadfast as the hills of stone; wise he was and skilled in voice and hand; truth and justice he loved and bore good will to all, both Elves and Men, hating Morgoth only; he sought not his own, neither power nor glory, and death was his reward."

Fingon was fucking great :( I miss all the time I spent in Sky with him, Zelina, Eratani, Fearstalker, Cromcruach, Aata, actually most of Core (miss you guys as well) and all the old Taken people.
He was always up for helping out and screwing around in TeamSpeak.
He will be sorely missed.

Very sad to hear this.

Fing was one of those people you logged in to hang with.

All the old Taken people I see posting in here were also people I played this game for, just spending time with and partaking in shenanigans. Fing was generally at the heart of all those old times.

Gone but not forgotten buddy.

That one night Fearstalker explained was one of my favorite raid memories while in Taken.

Fingon said "if anyone falls off the raid NO dkp for you so pay attention so don't fall off the edges." Not more then 5 minutes later you hear "Oh damit!!" .. silence.. few seconds later.. someone says "Fingon fell off ha ha !".

I remember Fingon always needing a res in the bear pits in Permafrost as well. If there was a way to die on a raid he'd find it on his rogue!

RIP Fingon even though you are gone we will not forget the memories you brought us, thanks pal.

Genuinely good guy, always put the group and others before himself. He lead (I believe) Taken's first Trakanon, pull got a bit squirly, remember Fingon shouting "F* it, let's go!" and we all bundled in. Was an awkward fight in the tunnels towards the shrooms, but we carried the day, barely. Always think of that when I click my Manna Robe.

Unique characters like Fingon make EQ worthwhile, and generate positive communities beyond the game. Thoughts are with his family, and those who knew him well.

Rest in peace. Via other people's recollections of him, I'd say Fingon was justly named.
Condolences to his real world family; and may he have an immortal place in Norrath.

This is such sad news to hear. I can't even count how many adventures I went on with Fingon. It usually started off with him requesting a res in some obscure location each morning when I logged in.

The recollections from Fearstalker, Crom, and Eratani, are absolutely some of the best moments we all shared! When Fingon fell off the island in sky after specifically instructing the members to be careful was something we all laughed about for several years afterwards! It was a legendary Taken memory. As was getting him killed.. sure fire way to ensure the loot was good was to sacrifice Fingon.

Fingon was such an amazing voice of reason with great integrity and maturity within out officer group. He was always willing to do the very difficult task of degiulding the bad apples or recruits that didn't make the cut.. we even nicknamed it Fingonate.

Fignon, you will be missed my friend.

Very, very sad to hear. He was a generous and stand up guy.

On P1999 Fingon put a ton of extra time and effort in, just to ensure that everyone else would have fun.
