View Full Version : List of Top Guilds On Server

Below is a list of what I believe is all the servers over the history of EverQuest. There is another thread here looking to catalogue the best server on each guild (https://www.project1999.com/forums/showthread.php?t=306542). The idea here is that you will discuss which guild was the agreed upon best over the three different eras of original EQ - Classic, Kunark, and Velious. If you can all use the other thread to come to a consensus, I will go through and edit this list to consolidate the top guilds for each era for each server.

Mayong
Mayong was a Lvl 51 / 50 AA start server (to save players the grind). Think it was at least Planes of Power in terms of era at launch...and collapsed/was replaced when SOE announced Trakanon (a new standard blue server, voted for based on a community poll. Not the same as the Trakanon TLP server that came later).
Trakanon wasn't particularly popular with the community despite winning this poll, and rumors of it being shut down cleared out many people who quit on that basis, and THEN it was shut down based on low numbers and characters merged with Tunare). That was my final experience of the live servers, circa 2009. Sony couldn't run a community in my eyes at that point and I was done with it - definitely plays into the notion that you don't always give players what they vote for and expect it to be a success.
I'm sure not everyone wanted that trivia, but some might have <3
Good thread idea Trelaboon ^^

For Terris-Thule I believe <Valon> was top during classic era. <Clan ta Veren> surpassed them eventually (PoP era?) to become the top guild for a long time. Even though I began playing in '99, I was super casual and didn't hit level cap and start raiding until Luclin, so maybe my impression is off. If there is anyone else more familiar with Terris-Thule raid scene, please feel free to correct me.

On Mithaniel Marr the top guilds during classic era was Afterlife and Forsaken Realm

Sounds about right. There were some other guilds around like Dawntreaders, but I really don't remember anyone topping Valon or CTV.
How about that Valon vs. CTV fight in the Bard BotB finals?!

I didn't know you played on TT Sadiki. I played very casually in a guild my brother came from WC2 with called <Shadow Council>. I can't say I even remember a guild called Valon, but I did maybe a total of one vindi raid and one HoT raid during Velious, so I wasn't really in the loop.

Rodcet Nife -- Top guild from launch to Velious was Avatars of Discord (Arcane Legacy was in alliance with us and always there). VERY end of Velious going forward I would say Ascent took over as top guild, but for this criteria it was for sure Avatars of Discord. We did most server firsts, woke the sleeper (4th server overall to do it) etc

Agree they were dominant, but it really only started that way in kunark. In vanilla I’d argue knights of eternal goodness were the top dogs, then It was a coin flip between multiple guilds, and then bots wrecked everyone and were dominate through potime.

My first guild was shadow Council on TT ;) later moved on to Korsis with some RL friend who was a leader there. That fizzled out and spent the rest of my days in Dwarec Mercs. I also recall Valon leading the way through the earluer days and then CTV picking up steam in PoP staying neck and neck or possibly passing Valon. Instancing kinda made me pay less attention to other guilds further into expansions.

i played a lot of years on Tunare, i can tell you everything about it, so can Sudz.
i know much before the Eci (and then Mayoung) merger and after.
Eci brought a huge and dedicated open style raid (not the first time for Tunare server though.
so to make it short
from classic to velious, It was Talisman who recorded their kills and had strict requirements to join and stay joined. *no idea when they were created*
from shadows of luclin through gates of discord, Talisman STILL held the top spot of the server but that was only 1 head of a three headed dragon.
Cynosure and Divine Crusade were also neck and neck.
Cynosure were that bad boys and girls and came off strong.
Divine Crusade were a great bunch of people who in their off time, hosted open raiding to key *and back flag* people of the server through planes of power though they were already farming time.
Then came GoD expansion, the content there disbanded cynosure and then soon after disbanded Divine crusade, Talisman prevailed and made it through Tacvi before Omens *need source*
Talisman Disbanded sometime around SoD
but not before we merged with Eci and public raiding became the norm. hardcore group ran from Grey Horizon and anyone could join *people sat out there was so many on some nights, alas duel raiding*
this is all the easy to see, at first glance, aspects from my many years on Tunare, there were 5 more guilds through out it all that had their spot light or added to the great community .

<The Elitists> and <The Vagrants> co-raided for a while. They eventually combined into a guild called <Elitists and Vagrants>. That is when I joined. Later on they split again back into just <The Elitists>.
Either way, in one form or the other, they were the number one on The Tribunal up until GoD/OoW. The old school players either left for WoW or retired and <Sol Invictus> began to take over then.

RA and Heroic Few merged to form FE to take a close fight of 1,2,3 flopping around between them and TW during early velious era and cement the top spot.
Classic - Server launched with kunark. no guilds
Kunark - server launched during kunark and tons of guilds were killing VS and Trak - one of the first was probable Circle of the Unseen and or SiN
Velious - TW hit tov and cleared it all of it but vulak on its first run, server came down, FE formed and cruised to victory to end the expac with aow kill.
I didn't see Saryrn mentioned. Heaven And Earth dominated at Luclin+, which is when I joined them and the server. Not sure around classic to Velious.

Arch Overseers was mostly Euro players or at least they raided Euro hours, maybe that's why they aren't remembered as much but you're correct they were definitely in the mix.
<Circle of Legends> was raiding up and through the end of PoP. I can't comment after that as that's when I quit playing.

AO def belongs around #3 but what I remember is they merged into FU to really give RoV competition however the two top guilds were on separate factions initially ( RoV on Giant FU on Dragon ) so it wasnt that much direct competition first several months of Velious.

Yeah when SZ was released (during Velious), a bunch of LoS folks made Ruin, levelled up and raided hardcore and rushed to kill most of Velious (minus AoW and Sleeper release) in a matter of months. No one else on the server was even close to them. Then they disbanded and Hate was the #1 guild on the server from then on.

Sullon Zek:
Samromancer was a deity in his own right. I was there when he 6-box dueled whoever that Ranger was and right when the duel started he accidentally gated his whole box lmao! Then the whole zone turned into a fucking royal rumble.
After Sam, Hate was top dog. I believe they were back and forth with Ruin, but I had joined the guild that former Ruin members formed called Vindictive; I can't remember if I joined Ruin, but if I did, it was for a very short time before Vindictive was formed. Hate was above Vindictive, they were doing SSRA while we were doing Seru. They had about twice our members.
We even had a /guildwar between Vindictive and Hate. That was very fun. Even numbers we smoked them most of the time, but it usually eventually ended up in us being swarmed. Hate had a lot of warm bodies, but their core members were pretty good at EQ. We had the legend Speedd/Kirban. When I played WoW, there were people in my guild whom have never played a day of EQ and knew who he was. He really was the difference maker. Think he played/plays here on Red but eq pvp is stupid so I've never ran into him. If I wanted to pvp I'd just boot up Street Fighter. This is turning into a blog.
Once Otslak?? left Vindictive and we all merged with Hate, it was extremely lopsided with Hate on top. Like not even close.
Training was legal on SZ and we had many good trainers. We were evil so we had SK/Necro. Neut/Goodie raids got shit on really bad.
Shout out to all the neuts and goodies who never jumped ship. You guys are very tough mentally.

Eci isn't listed on the initial list, but some back story.
Public raids started very early in the server's history. Initially they were led by a guy named Hottoq. This group did public planes raids and figured out much of Plane of Sky when it launched.
The only guild at the time that fit the mold of server uber guild was Souls of the Shadow. A candidate for 'top' guild at this time might have been a guild called Sacrament of Chaos, who had a lot of the server's firsts. They were not a large guild, but went on to win BotBs and have server first epics, etc. They raided with the public.
Some time in Kunark, Hottoq joined SotS. The competition that emerged was a guild called Reconstructed, led initially by Thordan, I believe. During this period Millenium and Council of the Magi merged to form Arete. SotS still kinda dominated, if memory serves.
Some time around Velious launch, SotS was tired of playing the server villan and they transferred servers, becoming Dark Horizon.
Hottoq had remained behind and became involved with Reconstructed, who were the clear #1s in Velious, with Arete being 2nd. Also during this period, server public raids started back up and became highly competitive. The largest of the feeder guilds was Forlorn, but at the time they were referred to as MMM [Million Man March] and were comprised of a number of guilds.
I believe the public raiding crew that continued after the merge with Tunare was this core group of folks. Someone can correct me if wrong here, I was in college and never actively raided after the merge.
Edit: Outside of all of this was a very powerful asian guild called Vane. They were also highly capable. I believe even being the serverwide first on Yelinak [this was the impetus to change the encounter such that high level mobs near Lord Yelinak would not assist in the kill.]

Heyooo! Watup Fennin Ro Fam!! TMO for sure on classic Fennin Ro. I'm having the hardest time remembering any other guild.. I know i was in "La'Familia" and i always thought of it as being a top notch guild, but i was also like 14 so many guilds were top notch to me haha.
Ruis Saille on Fennin Ro!
J/K, TMO was it hands down.

Agree they were dominant, but it really only started that way in kunark. In vanilla I’d argue knights of eternal goodness were the top dogs, then It was a coin flip between multiple guilds, and then bots wrecked everyone and were dominate through potime.
Agreed.

<The Tribunal>
Classic: The Elitists / Vagrants (co-raided)
Kunark: The Elitists / Vagrants (co-raided)
Velious: Sol Invictus? Or E/V again. Not sure because I largely sat out Velious in classic.
I remember E/V waking the Sleeper, so I don't think it was SI.
Of course, the tribunal board is still up so maybe the answer is there.

Sacred Fyre on Fennin Ro, even the mighty TMO slobbed on our knobs. I remember looting the server first Sunderfury off Innoruuk

Velious was when TMO finally cemented #1 on Fennin Ro, not a second before.
