View Full Version : Norrathians are weak.

With zero training, they can barely win a fight against an armadillo or a large rat, and a coyote absolutely destroys them. It makes me wonder how truly powerful a level 60 Warrior is by Earth standards. Discuss.

No discussions over QVC products that allow sharpened rust swords to cut hides of armadillers is allowed. Sharpened sword is sharp
Batwing crunchies at Level 60 lead to more "tunnel vision" than typical Summoned: Black Bread (a.k.a. Pump-er nickel) giving an advantage those raised in the town fronts of Qey and FP. Clearly, accuracy is improved giving greater quantity of hits and thus higher rates of killed coyotes

i'm a grown adult man and tbh, while i do think i could win a fight against a large right, i'd definitely take some hits and lose some health before the fight ended. Keep in mind, an EQ-sized large rat is the size of a small child. So I don't know how weak I'd really call the average Norrathian.

What does impress me, though, is how a shopkeeper can destroy a player with his bare fists until level 50 or so.

While at the same time being mentally weak and succumbing to an enchanter's bidding ;)

Makes OOT fun among other places.

Does this picture indicate an innate Enrage ability for all merchants?

Me too ... or a skeleton, or a glowing beetle the same size as I am, or a bat that's bigger than I am, or ...

At one point I had this semi hilarious idea of your level 1 human just sitting at work like normal and then just all of a sudden being overcome by the insatiable thirst for heroism and just grabs a piece of wood or a sword and charges out the front gates to kill local wildlife

It's like looking out your office window and seeing a pigeon and grabbing a stapler to go do combat with said pigeon

Why don't any of the lowbie mobs in classic EQ flee when attacked?

Nah man, you ever seen a coyote? They’re like not even the size of a medium dog. I’d blast that fake wolf ass

I agree with Trelaboon. Coyotes seem pretty stupid, at least from what I've seen on cartoons. Cartoons are real, right?

Maybe shopkeepers are the default Norrathians and the player is the exception.

I mean that is the actual case. It's like none of you read your Tome of Order and Discord, jeez!

I wonder why noones been talking about the spider in the room yet.
Let's take the Level 1 Monk engaging a spiderling. The Level 1 Monk's martial arts Training obviously sucked. He hits like any other male adult around, his only advantage being that he is able to utilize his second fist every third battle and he kicks from time to time (so do warriors). He has a nice sixpack though, so apparently he didn't practice fighting but spent most of his time in the academy doing sit-ups. Oh and I forgot Mend: He is also able to significantly hurt himself every 5minutes.

Now he's going out there to battle a spider the size of a German Shepard with his bare fists. I don't think any of us earthlings would dare to or could do that!

Well, a well geared level 60 warrior can take 200 times as much punishment, mitigates like 5 to 50 times as much damage depending on what he's fighting, does like 50 to 500 times as much damage depending on what he's attacking, can teleport, fly, turn invisible, slow people down, stick them in place and poison them blind.

So....probably pretty strong?

Any different from taking on a caster mob that can punch you for more damage than whatever weapon you're utilizing while accepting your hit yet continues to keep casting an offensive spell, followed up by a healing spell, while dodging, parrying, and weaving like Muhammad Ali?

And let's not even ask if you are the caster how often your stunned when the spell is about to launch...

You try fighting anything while carrying a 8 backpacks all filled with rusty swords and a worn great staff. Most earthlings would be lucky to stand up.

Don't forget that there's a decent chance the only clothes you have on while you are doing this is a raggedy old shirt. Pants do not come as part of the basic Norrathian adventurer starter kit. Casters are lucky that they get a robe at least.

My brother had this thought -

You're adventuring out in the middle of the world and get splattered, dying to whatever mob you thought you could defeat. Somewhere else in the world, your _new_ body appears quite naked (bind point). Yet through the power of clerical magic, you can destroy that new body and wind up back in your old (and starting to rot) corpse! So what happened to your new body - consumed by magic?

And if you decide to leave your old corpse there (since it can last for seven days and nights), how come the local small wildlife do not begin scavenging your rotting flesh?

Back to the original topic - what exactly did the merchants do prior that they have a never-ending bank account? "Sure - I'll pay you x platinum for this item that I currently have a couple hundred laying around!" Or better still, you come strolling into their booth or store, wearing the best of the best gear ever and they ask if you want a cloth pants or a rusty dagger?

wat. Old body lying there, new body beamed next to it. Old body looted, it poofs ('rots'). Where's the question here?

Never mind the wildlife, what about the local humanoids? I'm sure they would strip the corpse clean of valuables.

I remember back during live, I remember reading an everquest web site that said something like... where else (but everquest) can you walk into a bank, see corpses, and not have a second thought?
