View Full Version : How many mages would it take do any raid mob?

Hey all its Cipher Dec,

As you know I love trying new things and crazy ideas. I am the creator < No Time to Rez > a perma death guild, and for Gnomeregan a Gnome only guild.

I was wondering how many mages chain casting pets would it take to kill say Dain? Vindi? This is truely don't know but do you think it is even Plausable? If instead of 70 players of all different class types, would 70 mages epic'ed and non be able to take on even 1 of these targets?

If it happens I'd love to see a vid of it, certainly different. Are there enough active mages on the server to make it happen? They always seem like a rare thing.

Mage epic isn't that helpful, its a 5 min CD. Basically it's one free pet

With mage epic u can essentially chain 3 epic pets. Have 1 already out. Hold a charged one and one rdy on cool down. Would be interesting.

What if it was a combination of level 60 pets and epic pets? The earth staff is one of the rarest if not the rarest epic piece in the game.

Say 80% of the mages where non epic'ed and the other 20% are epiced?

I’d say it’s certainly plausible, but I doubt there are enough (not already guilded) mages to carry it out

Only speaking for torvo, but back on live eq, dain mage groups didn't happen until luclin.

Mage pets are how we killed the Eye of Veeshan pre-kunark. We needed approximately 25 mages and many clerics and just pet kited it

To everyone talking about cool down on magic epic. Isn't the mage epic a summoned item? Can't you corpse a bunch of them ahead of time?

It's a simple function of having the mob run out of hp before the mages run out of mana. If fail, add more mages.

The guild "the tinkers" on rallos zek was mage only. They had quite a few epics. They could clean out the plane of air easily but with just mages stuff gets complicated

There definitely is a number that works for non-AE mobs, but I wouldn't know how to guess. AE mobs might actually be impossible

Yeah anything that’s super high level that AoE fears may just be out of the question.

Bet you could kill Vindi with like.. 40 mages

Vindi's rampage, or really any Velious rampage might be a deal breaker

We would deffo need a non rampage target though. After the first pets die the owners would be start poofing.

Maybe start with a Silverwing or Trakanon something.

This is assuming all guilds are in on it and will let us try!

e: those fraps would own!

Its very possible. They had to add a debuff to raid mobs on the TLP servers. The more pets on a boss, the less effective the pets become overall. An army of naked mages chain summoning pets and just sending them in.

You can range Rampage, used to do that in HOT with the rampage mobs. Have just the tank go in and as long as everyone was far enough back we'd preslow and then have melee go in.

Not sure why people are worried about Vindi’s rampage, Traks or SWs AEs hitting 40 mage pets is quite a lot more dps than Vindi’s rampage

At point Sony nerfed pets so only 4 could attack an npc at a time to nerf this concept.

I think it's enrage, not rampage people need to really worry about. 60 mages could cast pets as they die and probably be fine dps and recast wise. I'm assuming a pet may die every 3 seconds? Maybe on average of 2 if you include rampage. Each mage would have to recast a pet like once every 2 to 3 minutes. The problem is on enrage all the pets could potentially be killed. I guess it might be fine if the mages just backed them all off so only the ones Vindi still attacked would be killed.

Zlex's AoE would wreck house, Trak has low hpts so it wouldn't be such a big deal. Just have to summon pets more quickly.
