View Full Version : A new server ?

Most of the players on blue are twinked, the sleeper got awoke..
It could be good to create a 2nd server, so people would start at the same level, and leveling up together, creating a «*new*» community.
We could start the server on Velious, or starting on classic then adding extensions.

What are your thinks about it ? (And sorry for my English)

It is unlikely that we will see any new servers for Project 1999 anytime soon. My advice is to not dwell on what you "missed" (like the weapons from Sleeper's Tomb before the Sleeper awoke) and instead focus on appreciating what you've found: a server where 99+% of the content its ever had is still available.

Someday, most likely several years from now, the P99 dev team will finish their grand goal of re-creating classic (through Velious) Everquest as perfectly as they can. When that happens, the plan is to release a new server, which the players call "Green" or "Recycle" (the devs have never given it an official name AFAIK).

That server will start as if it were day one of EQ's release, back in 1999, and then it will progress along the exact timeline that EverQuest originally followed. But again, Rogean and his team won't even start thinking about building this server until Nilbog and his team have completed the code for all of classic EQ. Since they haven't even released the Chardok 2.0 patch, we know that the new server is a very long way off (again, we're talking years, not months).

Hope that helps.

Well I didn’t know about that. I hope they will succeed! I don’t know exactly what’s the difference between P1999 and the game like it was before. And the idea of starting the games like it was in 1999 and add expansions is cool.

We all hope they succeed :D

Ultimately the "green" server is the entire purpose of this project, since the entire goal of everyone involved was to re-create classic EverQuest (and as forum posters here will happily tell you, the timeline on Blue is not classic). In a way you can think of the current "Blue" server as a "Beta" test server, where the devs can find all the problems in their code as they develop that perfect classic EQ code.

Of course, since Blue has been around for over a decade, and "green" is still many years off, it doesn't feel very much like a beta server.

Real Q- any general idea if the “classic feel” stuff would be part of a recycle server? Thinking of AoE nerf etc

I'm corpsing manastones and handing the camp off to my American friend to do the opposite shift 7 days a week. What's everyone else's plan?

the delusions that the staff will actually make a "green" server in 20 years or whatever are pretty funny. Hopefully you will all have stopped playing by then.

Manastones aren't LORE, so you could just fill up 10-slot bags and transfer them to alts.

I was expecting to take a drink but boom! He practically dropping the double green posts!

I hope I can keep my hype for green as high as Laura's by the time it comes out for real!

Just sad no halfling Rangers, but that is the classic price we must pay!

So I'm fine with being the resident Green booster, and fine with taking flak for it, but ... "Laura"?

release a new server where the only rules are no RMT and no multiboxing. Keep petition quest to /ooc and /shout

There is a reason we haven't had a patch in over a year, and a reason the plans for Green which were apparently imminent have been shelved. They are likely related and something to do with the Daybreak deal if I had to make a WAG.

Where will this perfect code be stored? Will it be preserved in the money pit on Oak Island, or end up in a dirty Sharon Stone casino hallway?

I can't give you an ETA, but I can add some information.

Since Kunark development, we have used a rule-based system when developing content and code. What this means is the work needed to add/remove timeline features only has to be done once, and a rule applied for the era.

For example, when a server is released (original eq launch date: march 1999), rubicite and manastones should drop until ~October 1999. When a new server is launched, all that is necessary is to set the correct era rules. The era switches allow us to apply rules to spawns, loottables, items, spells, doors, tradeskills, etc so they may be enabled/disabled without even a patch.

It has been, and still is the plan to release a timeline correct server a certain amount of time after Velious is complete.Velious still lacks 2 zones; Stonebrunt and Chardok revamp. There are patches between and after those times which need to be developed.

Emphasis mine.
