Hey EQ fans!

or at least I hope you are, I have an announcement and I'd like some feedback!
A few friends and I are planning on playing EQ for the first time on stream completely blind. By that of course I mean no prior knowledge of the game and limiting research to classes and races, and you can bet it's gonna be a shit-show.

While we don't have a definite start date yet, I figured I should mention it here, get some feedback and answer questions.

I'll post in the new players forum when we do start with a link to the streams and hopefully you all will tune in and enjoy!

This sounds like so much fun.

The only recommendation is to try and keep within the triad if you have 3 or more, to make the group functional. Tank, healer, CC and everything else will come together.

I remember when I first started back in 2000. I promptly fell into the moat in Felwithe and drowned because I didn't know how to swim up. Then I fell off Kelethin and I SWEAR that back then even as a high elf, things were darker. I don't think I ever recovered that body either. Oh and there is that one time I decided to explore and ventured into lfay and promptly got pounded by a brownie.

It will be great to watch "true" beginners experiencing all that EQ has to offer for the first time :)

My girlfriends son wanted to try and play the other week. He made a level 1 human paladin. Started in Freeport.. I had 0 motivation to talk him through needing to find the paladin guild and blah blah blah before killing.. He wanted to just kill.. He accidently pressed Q next to a guard.. Auto attacked, died.. Tried to find body, wandered to zone line, then got confused zoning, and proceeded to zone back and forth repeatedly cause he was turned around.. Cant wait for the show!

Dump every stat point into CHA for the classic experience!**

**Ok don't do this.

I don't know how anyone would pick up this game unless they played it when EQ was p much your only choice.

Yeah man that's crazy.. Never would even consider P99 or even EQ in general really, had i not played it back in 99..

Remember, when this game consumes you and you all flunk-out, you'll have way more time to play.

The game has little in the way of in game guidance. Using other players as a resource was always central to the game so make sure you take advantage of that

Should be about an hour before they give up and go play WoW.

Just to point out, if you and your friends are living in a dorm and are sharing wifi, you will need an exemption from the staff. If you all have different IPs, you're good to go. Would suck to get banned on stream your first session, lol.

Also, don't forget that games come before girlfriends, especially EQ.

Pretty much sums it up. Even if you quit. These forums end up becoming a AA meeting for people who played and cant leave. This game replaced crack in the 99'.

If you're going to flunk your classes for an MMO, at least make it a game you don't need to be embarrassed about playing.

make all the chars near a central city ( qeynos area, freeport area or faydwer are good. class/stats is not important. faces are very important. the main thing you will need for the first few hours is:
1. locate yourself and your guild on the map using p1999 wiki map and /loc
2. equip your sword and find the autoattack key
3. become proficient enough at begging to get big plats from the guards, you must drink alot of mead to make this trick work

Start in Qeynos!! And make the journey from Qeynos to Freeport together....

That was a legendary journey younglings would make. Often guides would offer their services to help run groups of people to Freeport....though often a few wouldn't survive the journey.

That it’s an inefficient use of your limited time in this life to use it rediscovering everything and everyone on the offchance of encountering something novel when your prior experience suggests this is an unlikely scenario?

Should be about an hour before they give up and go play WoW.

Yeah they'll realize how flawed the game is with most of the difficulty being layered on artificial time sinks.

Though this isn't the mid-late 2000's anymore, WoW hasn't been the go to thing in quite a while.

EQ has far more difficulties than just timesinks. I sort of started thinking like you recently. But then I decided to make an alt and lvl said alt without any help from my other toons. Man it's really challenging starting all over again. Most of my previous alts I automatically drop 10k kn gear so I forgot how tuff the early lvling is.

sox7d
11-01-2018, 04:18 PM
If EQ is just a time sink and not difficult, give someone who's never played an mmo before a lvl 45 wow character and a lvl 45 p99 character and see where they are after a week.

Nope! Just trying to figure out days that work for everyone to stream, getting everything downloaded and working, and setting up streaming software.

Don't think I saw this mentioned but if you plan on playing on the same network, make sure you apply for an IP exemption as stated below. Can take up to a few months sometimes. Not sure how college campus's work, I could see you needing one if you are all at the same college as well as I believe it goes by Public IP. Guess that would depend on the college's infrastructure.

"Our servers will not allow you to log in multiple accounts from the same household / internet connection. Attempting to do so will be met with a Temporary IP Ban error.

If you genuinely have multiple people playing from the same connection, you are required to request an IP Exemption in the http://www.project1999.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=25]Petition"

lol I bought the ruins of kunark expansion. I got home had my brother come check out this new game i got. I made a dark elf something, ran out the window into some water and drowned. My brother said cool game bro and walked out. We later went to spend YEARS of our lives addicted to this game and p99.

Same experience but for me it was drowning in erudin harbor. A shark killed me when a friend tried to walk me through the process of jumping back in to loot the corpse. Then I rerolled and played for two decades

Well, back in 1999, we played on 386 computers w/dialup and were grateful.

LOl no you didn't.

386 was old and burred in 1994.
Even if you still had 386 in 99, you wouldn't even be able to load the game.

I played on P-2 450 with 64RAM and 8MB Video and it was OKish but not great. When Kunark came out it couldn't handle it, so I didn't play Iksar or even went to Kunark zones until I got a new PC a year later.
The absolute MIN I managed to get the game going was my friend's Celeron 300 with 16 ram and 4M video.

Modem wise 36k or 56K US Robotics was the norms for pretty long time.
