Inspired by the guy that lost about 80k to a guard.

Once I sold a t-staff about 20k under market value. Was worth around 50 and I sold it around 30. When I put it up for sale I was wondering why so many people were interested in buying.

So I lost 20k once off a stupid trade where I wasn't paying attention to a bunch of things at once.

Back in 1999 era live I joined a group in Highpass hunting Gnolls near the Karana ZL and I looted the Polished Granite Tomahawk while I had one in bank and it poofed due to Lore. GM would not restore the item and my group was very unhappy with me and ended up kicking me. We had been camping it for like 5 hours which back then was an exorbitant amount of time for me to be allowed to play in the first place. Everyone was quite heartbroken since this was about as good a weapon as a low level could hope to attain at this time in the game

Was killing guards in between WFP gate and NFP zoneline.

I felt it was safe to med there.

Had no idea it was common for people to train guards to the NFP zoneline...

Kithicor forest, night time, bound myself in a cabin...

Many deaths occurred, undead coming through the walls I thought would protect me. Luckily a raid was going on and was escorted to Rivervale ZL.

Actually this happened maybe a month ago? I was in Kael recently trying to get faction. I just wanted to tag mobs with my flux staff that another group was fighting since I had never been in the zone at that point. A large raid I thought was following a twitch guy was going into this area they call "PH". On the way in someone invited me into a group saying anyone else need invite? So I accepted and went in and helped kill stuff in there. People were rolling on random crap that I didn't know what it was for, but a cool spear dropped that I could use on a shaman so I rolled on it, then got a ton of tells asking who I was and what I was doing there. I had no clue what the rules were for rolling on stuff since I had never been in any groups yet besides one in highkeep. Anyway they said this is a guild event, and I looked around and saw that everyone had a tag from a guild, and somehow someone accidentally invited me into it but nobody noticed until I rolled on something ;p So I didn't notice that I was in a raid that a guild was doing. I guess its also mole on them for not noticing me either? ;P

Back in live my brother gave me a fungi to twink out my monk. We were going away for a long weekend and I figured I would put it about 20% higher than normal selling price in the Bazaar to see if anyone would be impatient and buy it. Ended up forgetting a 0 on the price and sold the thing for 10,000 plat. Tried to reason with the guy that bought it but he wouldn’t budge. Never logged in again.

One from p99 was to give a guildy a tranquil Staff that I had won while leveling my first character on the server. Guy said he would farm the plat in about a week or so and he had great raid attendance so I figured it would be no big deal. I never saw him log in again and he never responded to any of my PMs. That really set me back gear and spell wise.

This made me lol. I spent 20k on two pairs of iksar hide boots back in early kunark.

But the dumbest thing I have ever done was drop an Amulet of Necropotanceon the ground in sky and it rotted. I realized after the raid when running from EFP, used it for the faction boost. Took a few months but it was reimbursed. #ThankyouSirken

When I was 13, playing back in classic on live EQ, I got into hacking towards the end of my original EQ career. I heard rumors that there was a /buff hack that would allow you to use the GM command to set the level of a character. So I told my in-game buddy about this hack, and we agreed to sell all our gear, buy a fungi, and offer that for the hack. I then spent a few days on some EQ hacking forums advertising that I wanted to make the trade.

Some guy hit me up, he was a pro, although admittedly I was a fucking moron. He said "we do this my way or no way". My idiot brain immediately thought "damn okay i really want this better just go along with whatever he wants". Then told me he'd make a level 1 char, and I'd trade him the fungi, and then he'd give me the hack after.

Predictably, I traded him the fungi, and never heard from him again.

I quit soon afterwards.

Then a few months later my next door neighbor told me that he hit up that in game buddy, pretending to be me, got his account info, and stripped his account.

To this day I wonder whether or not that guy thinks I'm the biggest asshole in the world and that I screwed him twice. If you're still out there Bobby, I'm sorry man.

Only three things really come to mind, all of which were minor setbacks but not game changing.

1) I sold my Crystal Chitin Armplates to a vendor by going WAY too fast. I clicked through a bag onto my equipped arm slot and hit sell. I realized I was doing it right as I clicked. Couldn't get it back from the vendor after sinking in about 500pp (I sold it to a widely used one), so I just ate it.

2) Drop transferred about 2k worth of gems/items and they were gone when I came back. Not sure if someone took them or they rotted.

3) Never trained forage on my druid and got to 60 with all my skill points spent. To this day I am unable to attain it.

Thankfully, I've never had anything else lost on a drop transfer or on one with someone doing it for me. I've probably been lucky but I also haven't attempted with anything more expensive than a fungi (and commonly, the items aren't even near that value).

On live back in 99/2000- at 14/15 years old i somehow managed to talk business on trading accounts with another person in EC tunnel. The account I traded for had a druid as the main, and he had a mana stone. I was young and didn't understand this games mechanics really at all. Long story short, i traded that mana stone for a robe of the ishva cause i used to think that robe was the shit.... Soooo that was dumb..

I was saving up for an item and was super close to having enough to purchase it back when I was a kid on live. Just needed to sell one more item, but was having a hard time. found an interested party, but all his money was on one toon and he wanted the item on his current one. little alarm bells flew in my head and I was liek, "yeah, no." took him a good half hour or more to wear down my bulwark of skepticism and get at my overly agreeable nature. i handed him the item and predictably he did not return to pay me. the injustice infuriated me and I harassed him along with broadcasting his treachery to every zone I visited for months, until one time I happened upon him in pot. this time it was apparently his brother piloting the toon. he apologized profusely and handed me an item from his in entity that was worth liek 5x the value of what his brother had swindled from me. was pretty cool and impressed upon me the vital importance of persistence, slander and truth. also accidentally left off a zero from an item in another game and managed to convince the buyer to sell it back to me at a 10% mark-up, which wasn't bad considering it was only 1% that item's value. that was a long conversation.

I had a best friend growing up and he never liked playing the game. What he enjoyed, instead, was scamming people. Kind of disturbed me he got his kicks from this. And he was obscenely good at it. He would tell me these plans to get people to fork over their user name and password and I never thought they would work. But they would indeed work at an incredible rate.

I remember the first one. He invented some ranking system that had the name of an EQ God in it. Then he would have people message the ranking system(which he made a character account for) writing their username & password and idiots would send their username and password right over. I couldn't believe it but it would work like over 50% of the time.

I played live from the very start on Povar and attended the first ever Halloween event in Rivervale. I was piloting my trusty dwarf paladin, I believe I was sub 20 at the time and can't recall why I was in Kithicor, but boom, the call went out and everyone rushed in to aid Rivervale as it was being invaded by Dark Elf NPCs. It was a bloodbath. There were bodies everywhere, all of the mobs involved conned RED to me, and I was of little use. The Dark Elves were crushing and the GMs rushed to restore balance. There were smiting down Dark Elves left and right...but for some reason the corpses weren't disappearing right away. I told all of my IRL friends to stop fighting and to try to lock some corpses.

BOOM! First corpse unlocks, but it is some crap weapon comparable to Fine Steel. Eventually I happen across this...
http://wiki.project1999.com/Obtenebrate_Claymore

The event settles, everyone was excited to take part, and my friends and I started taking inventory of the items we gathered. Everything was total JUNK, minus the sword I grabbed. No one knows what to do with it. I spent several days in Greater Fay, we didn't use EC tunnel on Povar, trying to move this thing for something my crappy low level paladin can use. I didn't even know what I wanted as I didn't even know what was out there, being so low and so new. A friend does some research and says hey, there are a couple of Ghoulbanes on the server, they are the BEST paladin weapon, and you want it. I was like HELL YEAH! So, I requested a Ghoulbane and bit more for the claymore.

Finally, someone bites! They offer me a Mithril BP, some cash, and a Ghoulbane for the claymore. I am stoked! One problem, the Ghoulbane is on an alt. He convinces me that all is well and eventually wears me down. I trade the claymore for the Mithril BP and like 1500pp, which was a good amount at the time. He says he will log on the alt...never does. I add him and his alt to friends, rarely see them, but over the next year and a half, every single time they log on, I harass the shit out of them. I damned their names to everyone that would listen. Eventually, I quit live a bit after Kunark came out, paladin only ever made it to level 54, and after ALL of the time I spent playing that character, I never did get a Ghoulbane from that dbag.

Never. Again. Ever. will I trust anyone like that.

On EQMac had a guy beg me to buy an AoN for what was dirt cheap. Promised black and blue he wouldnt resell it.
I gave in and sold it to him...within about an hour he was trying to sell it for market value.

This was near the end of EQ Macs life span when all the shitter came over and ruined the server.

Basically you come up with a RMT scheme where you 'accident oh' dump plat on an NPC. Your client kills and loots said plat.

Bonus points if you can petition to get your plat reinstated while the client keeps theirs.

Well the whole group was evil races minus myself and the highelf cleric I used to pal around with.

I memed the group port to BB by mistake and dropped the whole group off there. They got mad and started running for the boat dropped me from the group and all died to dwarf guards.

The cleric thought I ment to do it because two of them where being a$$holes while we where exping.

This was in P99, so I don't have the luxury or excuse of saying I was young and dumb:

Grouped with a mage who kept me supplied with constant mod rods. We died somewhere in Kunark. I want to say Howling Stones. I've deleveled back to a hell level and bitch and moan. He logs to his main cleric and rezzes me. I get back the level I lost.

While having rez sickness and low health and low mana, I click the mod rod to get more mana and die again.

The guy rezzed me (again) and then logged out and never came back.

I wouldn't want to play with a dumbass like me either.

The scene/situation: My first toon on eq was a gnome magician. Keep in mind I never bothered to look at all the character race or class options.

2-3 hours into my first play session and about 4 disconnects in due to my brother picking up the phone line (dial up) I found myself lost in steamfont. It was night and nearing eq dawn. Just as the sun was coming up I was greeted with my first ever sighting of an ogre.

It was another player so he didn’t con kos to me but I still didn’t know how to tell the difference between an npc and a pc. I cautiously walked up and hailed him. He slowly turned and proceeded to say “Mmmm nummy gnome blud IM GUNNA EAT JOO!!”. I turned tail and fled in a random direction. This guy chased me for the better part of 15 minutes. I tried hiding behind objects to no avail. I was lost.

All through the zone others were apparently watching this ogre chase a random naked gnome around in big circles. I managed to find the lfay zone line by accident. He followed and I took off left following the zone wall. In the end he chased me right into the dark elf camp where I died. I got disconnected again due to a phone pick up.

When I managed to get back into the game steamfont ooc was full of people (including that ogre) making fun of the naked gnome running all around the zone screaming for help being chased by an ogre.

I deleted that toon and didn’t log in for a few days.

I love how everything was going swell on that server like the perfect utopia and then WHAM p99ers step in, fuck with rotation, wake sleeper, and get the server shut down.

Yup was 100% the reason they shut it down.

When people figured out they had lost the gm toolset so you could petition anything you wanted and your account had a 1 time free petition (i.e say you accidently deleted a fungi and they would summon one for you coz they couldnt check logs).

Also the requesting to transfer a toon to another account somehow was bugged and would print a 2nd toon of yours on the new account so RMT went thru the roof with people printing copies of their toons.

Also those brothers that started to bot on the server with 40 toons.

That guy who bought every good item in the bazaar because he had a plat dupe going.

RIP EQMac.

I deleted that toon and didn’t log in for a few days.

hahha this was the best one

Way back in the days of live my buddy quit and told me I could have his account with his rogue on it. Excited I logged on and started pillaging his bank and cleaning it out. A week later I found out I had deleted all the things for the final turn in for rogue epic. He was not happy and I was bummed.

Started EQ when I was 12. Mained a Druid named Jerok. One time my group was in trouble and I was supposed to evac everybody out, we were in Mistmoore, little did I know my evac spell was for me alone, so I ported my butt out of there and the rest of the group died. It was a random group, rather than face the cold hard truth I just unplugged my computer and didn't log on for a couple days.

I let my friends younger brother play, he created a Dark Elf female, proceeded to trick this dude that he was a girl and cybered him and got a bit of free stuff out of it. I guess that's not dumb, more dumb on the dudes part.

My brothers helped me quest for the Tunare necklace that casts free root. It took all day and it was my coolest item I had. The very next day I was in Thurgadin doing some recipes in a smith or pottery thing or something, and I wondered what happened if you put a no-drop item in the thing. I saw my Tunare necklace was no-drop. If you could transfer no-drop items like this, and I was the first to figure it out, that'd be pretty cool right? I put my Tunare necklace in.... and thank goodness, I chickened out. I took it back out and tried with some other item and it disappeared. I thought about how much time it too my brothers to help me get the necklace and how angry they would be if I had destroyed the item the very next day.
