Been creeping around on the server for my buddy who I condoned into playing on the P99 server with me, and he decided that he HAD to be a bard.

Any suggestions for a class that will duo well with a bard? I've always known them as AoE kiting kings.. Just dunno what would pair well with him.

I thought about making an ENC and just having mana out the ass,.. but I'll take any suggestions.

Wizard/Cleric

If you do it right, he could swarm kite while the wizard or cleric drops some PBAOEs occasionally to speed up the process. Would take you a while to get the timing down so he could train them past you right as your casting bar completes, and then take some more time figuring out how much you can nuke w/o stealing agro from him.

necros pair well with almost any duo, since they can fear kite while their partner provides additional DPS. They get some PBAOE as well, tho not as much as a wizard or a cleric.

This. In kunark+ items like the goblin gazugi ring could be spammed for threat without risking using your aoe dots n such. It's a rare drop from a rare mob in LOIO with a seemingly pointless use...strange how these things happen. In luclin+ most bards just used the skeeter ear.

Such a ring also has a nice use of an invis which will break charm pets, useful for brd / encs in that regard. Funny how a seemingly hilariously bad item is just so, so useful. Items like this is what makes EQ cool damnit--just like +oskill items in d2 :P

edit: Furthermore, when doing your pb aoe assist kiting, make sure to log out after each AOE to reset threat--the ring doesn't generate much threat, but enough (or did on live :P)

We used to do this in pofire to PL AAs onto new chars~ generally the last pass or two would just be PLee + 1 wizard doing the final blows though, so you'd get 11 / 12 aa per pull (pulls took ~ 25m or so, but worth it :P) could do field 1 and field 2 if the bosses were down.

I'm going to toss another vote for Necro (i'm biased, necros do everything).

They get PBAOEs at 20, 29 and 39 and dont have to logout to clear agro. They can just feign death to clear hate and get some heals to keep the bards HP up as necessary.

Although if you go with a cleric you get the benefit of raises and then you're 1 tank away from a pretty decent 3man xp party.

the last point is indeed important--they're going to want to do more than aoe shit at 60 :P cleric will get you the groups pretty quick~

~_~ I miss my cleric :P

From personal experience i can say that Bard/Cleric is a great duo. You add a tank and you have a great group, and you can root/dot down pretty much anything that the cleric can land root on. I suppose fear kiting is a possibility once the bard gets snare but its not that great. AE kiting with the bard and having the cleric use PBAOEs in conjunction is quite the task and REALLY requires a lot of skill before it can really be done well.

Bard/Shaman would be a great combo I would think because their overlapping utility would compliment each other pretty well, especially once shaman gets a pet.

Other than that maybe Shadowknight, with snare and your cc/heal over time abilities a good shadowknight and bard could handle just about any outdoor creature via fear kiting and if the bard is good enough at crowd control they could hold some pretty tough dungeon camps as long as the SK can survive each creature without healing other than their Lifetaps.

the best duo partner for a bard is what ever class you want to sit afk and be leveled while the bard solo's the zone.

At least that's how i did it on live

honestly I'd pick mage. The bard can chain pull shit in outdoor zones while the mage is mostly afk just pwnzoring mobs with their fire pets.

I'd vote rog... theres no downtime ever if u kite, and can even duo indoors sometimes... I duo'd with a rog at 28 in unrest and flew up to 32, also in this setup only the bard really needs to know what they're doin which is nice.

I'm a 35 wiz and I recently went 30-35 in just several hours of play time with a bard kiting in Overthere. It sped up dramatically once I got lvl 34 ae spells. We usually take anywhere from 10-20 mobs every 5-10 minutes or so. Wiz/Bard is my suggestion.
