Banned with no explanation

So this happened to me a day ago, tried to log onto the server, and got a popup stating that the account has been banned.

Now, I have created a petition thread about the issue, so I hope the staff will reply back in due time as to why.

But this got me wondering, have any of you gotten banned / suspended without any reason being given, and were you at any point told as to why ?

If so, please share your story!

Do you have an IP exemption on the account? That might have got you into trouble if you've been misusing it (people do).

Had any disputes with other players in the game?

The obvious one, have you RMT'd? (bought plat for $)

Have you given your account details out to "a friend" while inactive? They might have been doing things they shouldn't be.

I got perma banned for boxing using an external modem I had at the start of the project. Secrets was off her meds so decided to perma ban

then I was suspended for two weeks for using an ip exempt account I bought with plat to transfer for me (didn't learn my lesson)

I had 3 accounts banned many years ago for using MQ. I didn't realize that even a non functional MQ version for P99 would flag the account as using MQ. The MQ version was for EZ server where it was allowed and you are able to box many many accounts/chars at once. I played both servers and left MQ running all the time. So, if you use MQ for another server, it will flag P99 as being used there too even if it doesnt work and MQ errors on login.

Red99 players literally "ruined their own lands," so to speak, by twinking themselves out with NTOV gear then deleveling to the mid-30s and farming every leveling player in every leveling zone.

To be honest this was the story of pretty much every pvp server on classic eq.

Sullon zek (I played there) was the worst.

PVP is tons of fun when the playing field is level. Human nature, however, almost mandates this will never be the case on any sever that is more than a few weeks/months old.

Sometimes they make a mistake. I received a banned message and locked account almost a year ago with no response. After I asked why I was banned the response was basically oops your account name is too similar to someone we were banning. You're now unbanned. Just contact them and if you truly didn't do something it'll get straightened out shortly.

You will most likely not know what you did wrong unless you have friends who have GM's added on discord.

But

You did break some kind of server rule. It sucks that rules are hard to come by and even potentially harder to understand but if you play passively and don't get too aggressive with anything you'll fly under radar and won't be suspended.

I just find it odd that I am not told why. As when they did the ban, then should know the reason for it, then I could atleast try to defend myself, or provide an explanation.

Now, I realize they might have a lot to do, and it might take some time to get around to the petition, but banning, and providing the reason why, should imho be all in the same first step.

And yeah, I have sold and bought stuff in the ec tunnel like everyone else, but I have not even been offered to buy anything for real money or the like.

GMs are volunteering their time working for the creation of this free server for others, so it’s understandable that they view each account/player as being about as privileged as they can get. That being said they ban accounts sometimes blatantly for the greater good of their servers, justified or not, from training or killstealing disputes to aggressive economy changing farming. If you get an IP exemption with hopes of getting your Gf or anyone else into the game then you’ll be assumed as two boxing, and trying to get unbanned will be a time extensive process where you will likely just get mocked. Sometimes you just get unbanned by someone else without warning later on. I ended up getting a perma banned in the end for rmt, which braknar investigated for me twice, and said it was a sure thing (I was on break at the time). There is (or was) little to do about account security at the time since hackers roll over everything in any free service, and us privileged people wont get service like you would from a paid company. Point is don’t get an ip exemption, and don’t become too attached. Your playing here for free doesn’t come with any gaurantees and if your account shows anything weird then you’re just a burden at that point. My record on live stays clean, I have never been banned once. I know it’s a lot to read, but that’s my experience. Take care and good luck :)

Sharing your info isn’t the only way people will get your info. I’ll try not to feed the trolls much sorry, but seriously have you ever played a game where account infos weren’t hacked? The only difference here is the gm volunteers don’t have the time to worry about investigating, so they just handle it efficiently. Shit happens. May not like it but you’ll need to accept it, or bury your head in the sand and hope for the best

I got banned on three separate occasions all due to server staff errors, all were undone.

1) mellowyellow, a player on red back in the day, registered my name Heartbrand on a rmt website, then petitioned it here. Took a week to get unbanned.

2) someone made the name checkraise with an n instead of a r (my mains name), as a mule character for stripping someone’s account. Got banned for two days for that until they realized it wasn’t my character.

3) got banned for a week for being afk at cabilis zone in and being accused of training by some crazy ptsd guide before being cleared.

So while OP may be guilty of something, being banned is by no means proof that he actually did anything wrong at all.

You can create as many accounts as you want, there is not a limit or anything. Even if one account is banned you can still play on server.

iirc someone hacked a guild website and got all the Login/PWs for that site. Then they tried the username and PWs to log in. and if your that kinda guy who uses the same logins and passwords for everything like its '97, well guess what...

and bans seem to be weird on this server. I had an account "Banned" but 365 days to the hammer drop it was lifted with out a word from CSR.

So just keep trying even if it takes a year lol

When we came back in 2017 and saw our accounts were banned we petitioned. GMs claimed they had clear proof that on a specific date we had been trying to RMT. However the date they gave was almost 6 months after we had stopped playing account. We rebutted and they never responded again but deleted our p99 forums account. It appears when GMs make decisions on server they will not go back on them...

If they're going to suspend you, why not send you a tell 2 minutes before you're disconnected explaining the reason? Why make people create forum posts just to discover the reason for their suspension?

It would save them a TON of time answering forum posts / petitions - and it would save the players being suspended a ton of animosity - if they'd just send a brief explanation via tell.

I was banned for over 2 months for a name violation petition that was apparently forgotten about. I had no idea what the ban was for until it was over and they said oops sorry forgot about this, please delete character that violates name policy. Once you are banned you are put in the undesirable bin and are low priority. The only reason I got unbanned so fast was having connections to people who had direct lines to Sirken. Otherwise I’d probably still be banned.

Just don’t ever piss anyone off who could ever petition you.

Well its their server they can do whatever they want. If they just want to ban your account, strip your toons, name you Sissyboysixtynine, for no reason at all, they can do it. That's what I meant its the price you pay.

In the end I think the service provided here is a billion times better than what GMs do on live where its basically the far west.

Ive had lowercase named toons for years and never once had an issue from staff. Someone must have cried about it.
From what I hear its built into the client and cant really be patched out.
Im not sure why this would upset them so much they would need to pull you from gen pop till you got a new big letter in your name.

Ive had lowercase named toons for years and never once had an issue from staff. Someone must have cried about it.
From what I hear its built into the client and cant really be patched out.
Im not sure why this would upset them so much they would need to pull you from gen pop till you got a new big letter in your name.
