View Full Version : Are Fungi Tunics about to Spike in Price?

Saw that the King/King PH pathing is fixed now so you need a full group to clear the whole path and can't just cheese him/PH any more which I assume means alot less trio's and more full groups need to attempt to do it. Also heard that his item table is supposed to swap with the Tunic + Staff making the Tunic his very rare drop?

I have a feeling the camp won't be done as much due to both of these changes.

lol I was there after patch, keeping king and PH down with a group of 4 people (myself included of course) with very minimal effort. Our puller wasn't some mega twinked monk with a bunch of clickies either, nor were any of us super geared in any way.
I have only been to king camp a handful of times. I'm sure that there are some veterans of this camp who could still trio it easy.

Nah I heard that the fungi tunic is going to be made an uncommon drop off any mob in Seb. Expect price to cut in half in the next month.

Good, leave the camp for people who actually want to put in effort instead of use exploits.

King camp was held down by 13 year old kids running mid 50's groups in Kunark gear without shit like beads/orbs/unlimited clickies but yeah I'm sure three 35 year olds playing 60's in full TOV gear that have been playing this game 12 hours a day for the last 10 years will decide not to farm it now. Seems legit, this thread is obviously not an attempt to manipulate the price while farming of fungi's continues as always.
At this point, there's probably 2-3 Fungi Tunics per player on the server.

i mean, have you never done king the normal way? Also real monks still split king with whatever path he does
ps: Fungi on live at this era used to cost 60k, i remember cuz a friend shaman farmed hill giants 60k just to get it.

With the pure amount of fungis on the server they should cost about 2k
Yup

1800 players* right at this moment, 2.5/player, was a good guess.

Only if someone buys one.
Remember there's 2 options>
1. Farm one yourself.
2. Be lazy and pay the going rate.
Nobody who already owns one is going to argue with it going to 80k, 150k or 200k

I'm pretty sure there are way more than 3-4x more actively circulating fungi tunics than active accounts (to include all the Joes out there with 5-12 free accounts apiece) on p99.
Fungi tunic isn't rare. They could stop dropping altogether and the price wouldn't budge an inch if resellers in EC didn't think they could make an extra profit margin.

This is hugely improbable to say the least. The rule of thumb for online games is that the overall active user base is typically on the order of five to ten times the concurrent peak. If P99 follows the usual trends then that puts P99 in the eight- to ten thousand user range, possibly much more if it follows the typical pattern for free games of having a significant proportion of users who only infrequently log on. Accounts? Many players here own multiple accounts, with some individual players routinely placing all their characters on unique accounts. The number of active accounts is thus likely on the order of tens of thousands.
Simply put, there are lots of people playing P1999, and a massive number of characters out there.
As an aside, Project 1999 passed its millionth character more than three years ago (Nov. 2015, according to a post by Roegan) and it's presently at close to record levels of popularity. I find that amazing.

That's great and all, but the point you are trying to gather is solely based on your very loose "rule of thumb" that playerbase is equivalent to 5 to 10 times the amount of players on at peak times.
First off the disparity between 5 and 10 is HUGE, thats like saying "on average 5-10% of the population uses apple products. Thats a total variance of roughly 377 million people. You cant simply provide a "fact" like that with such a wide variable range.
Secondly, where do you even get that fact? 5 to 10 times the peak population? I've never heard of that, and even if that were close to the truth, every game is going to be different. considering the amount of games out there, its almost a guarantee that there are games out there with a total population of less than 5 times the amount of peak playerbase.
Anyways, the point being, anyone can just throw some numbers out there, it doesnt mean that they are correct.

That would really suck if true. For me anyway. I just joined server in September and I've spent the last few weeks farming plat for a fungi. I should have enough by the end of this week, but not if the price stays this high.

I would expect prices to continue to slowly drop long term, not go up. The supply of fungis on the server is already past the saturation point and the changes aren't horribly restrictive. The supply will still increase relative to their demand.
If you see a short term (minor) spike in the price it is just speculators who jumped in this week that are trying to capitalize on the uncertainty.

if the camp is actually harder then more people will be able to get into groups to fill it out. This will not affect the drop rate in any way. Only means people who can't get into the trios holding the spawn might get into a larger group. Fungi will still drop. The world will keep turning. EC will still try to raise the price because people are stupid.

Why are they called 'fatcats'? WTH do cats have to do with it? Who decided that is the term to use? Swish has never once, and I've researched it, used any other phrase to describe them. He also cannot help but use the phrase in any thread talking about selling or money. What about -
baron
big shot
deep pocket
magnate
moneybags
moneyed person
person of means
person of substance
rich person
richling
tycoon
All of those are perfectly reasonable synonyms.

OP knew this but he also knows how stupid a large percentage of the population is and that's why he threw in that he had inside info the drop rate would be changed instead of it being a common drop like it's been for 5+ years and long enough for almost 5000 to drop.
On another note, for any potential fungi buyers paying more than 45k you should know I am the Prince of Qeynos and I have 500k plat in the Bank of Freeport but in order to get that money out I need someone to give me 100k for transaction fees. Once I get the money out of the bank I will pay you 200k for your trouble. Please contact me on my toon Nigerianqeynosprince for more details

In the long term I would think this will cause prices to drop assuming plat farming trios are replaced by actual groups. Plat farmers in general are going to be the type who care more about hitting a price point than the potential newbies who will full group it, and nothing will cave a price on an already fairly common item faster than a bunch of new sellers looking for their first big score.

Just thought I'd share something pretty cool with you all.
A little late, but on November 1st, the one millionth character was created on the blue server. This does include characters that have been deleted, but it's still a pretty cool milestone.

I don't do much these days in Norrath, I spend a majority of my time semi-afk in tunnel, begrudgingly bouncing from work to reddit, to these soul-sucking forums, to the commonlands, but from what i've seen, it actually looks like Fungi has realistically gone up in price. People are paying more for their fungus covered stale Buicks.
However, I believe that their recent price change can be attributed more to the idea that people do not know what the hell to pay for them or buy them for.

I'd like to hear a logical explanation for how someone could naively pay 65kp for the same item that they would have known was going for 45kp the entire time they were playing the game and grinding the plat that doesn't begin and end with RMT and buying toons.
