Hi, I'm wondering if anyone has a list of items that get nerfed/no longer drop etc.
I'm most particularly interested in the Rod of Annihilation.

Saw one of those get linked last night. It made my jealousy organ spasm. I don't have any useful info for ya though!

I do know the Mosscovered twig is going for 90k, which made me cry a little bit (a lot). Owning that thing was always one of my EQ dreams and thought this might be my chance, but I never realized it would be so inconceivably expensive.
However, I am not aware where it drops or what level said mob would be. So perhaps there is still hope...

Like 30s, FM.
This item was nerfed at some point, but I'm unable to find much information on when that occurred. Robe of the Living Fungus. Common drop off of the myconid spore king in Sebilis. No negative stats, only 0.2 weight, caster usable, currently has Fungal Regrowth (worn) effect. I know this item got nerfed on live, but when? And was the nerf retroactive?
Another item is the Fungus Covered Great Staff, it was nerfed by having the mob that dropped it, drop a different version called a Fungus Covered Staff (didn't have the Fungal Regrowth effect) instead. But the old, "pre-nerf" versions weren't retroactively nerfed. I believe the Fungus Regrowth effect on the pre-nerf version could be casted from inventory by any class, but not sure.

The pre-nerf staff is castable from inventory so any class can use it. The post-nerf has to be equipped and is thus only usable by DRU SHM and CLR (I believe those are the only 3 classes that can wield it).
The robe eventually has regrowth (worn) removed, and since it's not replaced with a different item I would guess that it's a retroactive nerf.
OP:
Runed Fighters Staff (or is it battle?) 19/20 Mnk only 2hb eventually gets removed and replaced with a 38/40 (same ratio, but a weaker staff DPS wise because the dmg bonus gets applied less often).

Druid, Shaman, Beastlord (Not applicable to P99) on the post-nerf fungi staff.

Thanks for the info. Do you, or anyone else, have any info on when the RotLF nerf occurred? Some person in-game said it wasn't until near Velious, while the comments on Allakazam say it was very shortly after Kunark launch.

this is what I was talking about.

is a resource for old patch notes but using the search I can't find information on the robe or the staff as far as when it gets nerfed.

Runed Fighters Staff was actually originally Monk/Warrior but I think the ones dropping on P99 are the nerfed Monk only version :(

I believe this was retro-actively nerfed fairly quickly anyhow.

Circlet of Shadow drop gets replaced by the Circle of Shadows (same item, but the invis isn't instant, making it not the sk tool it once was) eventually but it should be quite a while. And existing circles remain unchanged. That change went in to accomodate a combat mechanics change for Sullon Zek, which finished beta and went live around the first of July the summer after Velious came out, so it should be quite a while.
If you ever plan to play a SK on this server, I would definitely put this item at the top of the list. Personally, I found this item to be a gamechanger as an SK at the time, and I don't think anything replaces it until well into AA, which this server will never have. It was such a massive nerf to the class that in the years that followed the SK community forums had to ban any discussion of the circlet and its use because it constantly caused problems between the haves and have-nots.
Just started back live to check out the new features, merc etc. I made a baby sk to play with my gfs toon....I'm already using the circlet constantly, even now.
If you play or plan to play a sk here, you want one of these.

lol ok TMO
lol ok TMO
How did you get anything about TMO out of Week's post? Other guilds have been farming them for their SKs and Necros for about a week now.
The circlet is an amazing item for pulling, travel, and general utility as evidenced by the large sums of money people were willing to pay post-nerf to acquire a pre-nerf circlet on the live servers. The difference this go-around is everyone knows the nerf is coming, so they will make sure to get the supply they want over the course of the next year.

It occurred very quickly.

Absolutely occurred before June 19, 2000.

Wasn't there a pre-nerf Blade of the Black Dragon with a better poison proc or somethIng?
Mardur

Blade of the Black Dragon Eye gets replaced with Blade of the Green Dragon Eye, which has 1 less damage and no proc at all.
Edit: Had a brain fart and posted wrong information.

The article doesn't provide conclusive evidence that the nerf happened before June 19th, 2000.
He specifically refers to it as 'allegations' of a 'nerf', which would suggest that on/before June 19th there were rumors of the effect being changed, but doesn't prove that the change had gone into effect yet.
On the other hand in his list of retorts it sounds like the nerf had taken place.
I hardly consider it conclusive evidence though.

Uhm, no.
It still drops but the regen has been removed. It's been that way since the beginning of 2001. So anyway, this guys sources obviously were wrong.
Definitely sounds like the regrowth lasted at least until Velious.

Nice if black dragon eye is in, badass kunark sword.
Gem-encrusted ring was also removed early on I think or maybe moved to a different mob. Was grachnist's ultra rare at first I believe

black dragon eye - reets atm. when its nerfed, reets will drop green dragon eye.
gem encrusted ring is from kunark giants. not moved, just removed.
grachnist's limited time item.. hasn't been mentioned in this thread, so I'm not gonna spoil it for the researchers.

Hmm this is an interesting quote:
All effects on items were retroactive - if you already had one, the effect was pasted onto your item.

That's the way it works. In Luclin, if you had a Gem Encrusted Ring, it gained the focus effect.

Has anyone seen a BotBDE yet on P99? We've done a ton of juggs/reets and have yet to see one. Just curious.

Nope I had got 3 6wis 10mana totems and like 10 shrunken earrings before pvp forums opened up and I put p99 on the back burner. Never saw that earring drop.

I dont think the circlet was nerfed because of Sullon but rather the other 3 pvp servers that existed long before.

Circlet of Shadows is incorrect:
http://www.tski.co.jp/baldio/patch/20010627.html
"Circlet of Shadow will no longer drop in-game. The Circlet of Shadows, can now be found in its place. This item differs from the original only in that it has a five-second casting time. Existing Circlets of Shadow will retain the same functionality as before, though we may change existing Circlets at some future date."
June of 2001, roughly 6-7 months after VELIOUS release. I'll update the wiki for ya ;)
