I spent a lot of time doing the Aegis of life quest and was totally disappointed with the shield. There was only one charge on it. Seems it is not a rechargeable item. Is this by design? What good is 1 charge on a shield or any item you spend 2-3 weeks camping. If anyone has any info on recharging please post it here. Thank you

The one charge seems clearly to be intended for the rare life or death situation where you don't have mana but one last heal would save your party. Save it for that. Otherwise, it's just a shield, with stats, like many others.
If you still have complaints, I recommend sending them to Brad "Aradune" McQuaid.

Did you do the quest without knowing what the reward was?

You can wear it on your back which is pretty cool.
Does your shield hang low?
Can you swing it too and froe?
Can you tie it in a knott?
Can you tie it in a bow?
Can you swing it over your shoulder?

I find it hard to believe you can even do this quest without looking it up, hearing about it from someone else, or knowing about it beforehand.

The „Life“ in the name doesn‘t mean you will save lives with the spell.
It actually means „you will keep that charge for the rest of your (character‘s) life“

I wore it on my back for a while back in 2011. Doubt it would be a thing in today's p99 economy, though.

It's a beefy chunk of Wis in the back slot for someone on a budget. Not a bad option for a back-burner cleric you can just leave parked at Grimrot to occasionally log in and check spawn.
