Is this green server a real thing?

Hey all,

Loved original EQ from way back and excited to spin up a new toon with my wife in the next couple of weeks.

I was reading a post on here (can't find it now) and they mentioned a fresh green-cycled server? Just rumors or something on the roadmap?

Would be just like old times to start new somewhere. :p

It's not just "a real thing", it's the entire point of the project (1999).

The goal of Project 1999 is to recreate classic EverQuest, and the Blue server is not classic. For instance, it spent seven years on Kunark, whereas live spent just one. Blue is that way for a reason: essentially it's the "beta test" server where the devs can test out their code in anticipation of someday using it on a truly classic server (ie. "Green", although the staff don't call it that).

But, as far as the "roadmap" goes, there's still the rest of Chardok 2.0, some smaller patches that came after it, and (most importantly) everything the devs have kicked down the road for the past ten years, but want to get fixed before they release Green.

No one but them knows how much time all that will take, but it's pretty safe to say that Green is still years away. Until then, maybe join ALS and/or just appreciate the very-close-to-classic Blue server we do have :)

Custom content to the server is a possibility.. I know it has not been ruled out.. But who knows!!

Since the project's early days the staff has been extremely against character wipes (perhaps because no wipes of any sort ever happened in classic EQ). Therefore, it seems extremely unlikely that any characters will be removed from even the virtually dead Red sever, let alone the extremely popular Blue server.

Instead Blue and Green will likely co-exist, with people playing on Green for the true classic experience, and playing on Blue:


because they have established characters there
because Blue has Kunark/Velious (remember Green won't even have Velious for half it's life)
for any custom content the devs decide to add to it

that is such a terrifying scenario. I do hope you are kidding! Although, It would make a TON of sense as to why Daybreak is playing so nicely with P99.... they wanna double dip on that krono$ cash shop action.

Benefit how? Well its no secret your an advocate for the green server and want it asap. If you create another post about green server, people will just see it as just another post by loramin. But if you create another post about green server using a different account you think it will appear as if there are other people wanting the green server as much as you.

What benefit? Getting green server faster by utilizing a PR campaign using multiple accounts to inflate interest in said server. Would it work? No, of course not, but only part that is important is that you think it will :)

Whenever I mention Green I almost always take pains to mention how far off it is. The staff has to do the second part of Chardok 2.0, the subsequent minor patches, and the mythical list that they've never even acknowledged exists (but as a dev I'm sure must) of work they kicked down the road but need to complete before releasing Green. And to put that all in perspective, Velious took seven years.

So no, I don't think starting even more threads asking about Green would help make our all volunteer devs code faster. I think me learning C++ and offering to help code would ... but I'm a Javascript guy :)

Again, a single green server will be worse than a nightmare for anyone trying to referee the guise / manastone / other limited availability crap camps in light of how many players would parachute in for launch. People scream for fresh classic. A single server launch methinks is not the answer. Of course... Blue & Red could be wiped simultaneously for 2 servers launching and the 3rd test server being used for the Teams PvP rules realm.
