View Full Version : Technical question regarding exp

If a pet deals 50% or more of the damage, they take 50% of the exp. Unless that player is grouped with another player.

Lets say someone has a pet out. They are grouped with another player. However the owner of the pet is at one end of WK and the pet is guarding a location at the other end. The player he is grouped with is with the pet.

The pet attacks a mob and does more than 50% of the damage killing the mob.

How is exp divided?

The owner is too far away to get exp. Does that mean that the player with the pet gets full exp? Or is the exp still divided in half even though 1 player is out of range?

Stop trying to cheat the system ;)

Seriously though, I think it works ... or at least used to work ... exactly how you want it to work: because you're in group you don't lose 50%, but because the other player isn't close enough to get any you get 100%.

But the staff might have fixed it; I think I heard something to that effect, but I haven't played pet classes much lately. Hopefully a more knowledgeable Mage/Necro can confirm whether this "hack" is still an option.

*sigh* I wasn't trying to hack the system. I just like to understand the nuances. For all I knew the pet would fry the mob and nobody would get exp.

I know the grouping with someone out of range trick doesn’t work however this reverse method is intriguing, can you actually guard a pet that far away without it leashing back to you?

I was just teasing :) Trying to figure out clever ways to "hack" this game we've played for 20 years is something to be praised, not scorned.

Yes you can part your pet very far away. I am on red. I am afk killing PS / rotting skelly. However since afk = a free kill. The point is to park your pet somewhere, then park yourself in a little hidey hole someplace else where your not likely to be found or easily trained.

Just don't gate or use any "relocation" spells it nullifies the pet commands and it will start moving again. Still, exp going to waste, so I was wondering if someone would get exp even if I was out of range for it, and how much they would get.

Just to save some possible Blue readers from some pain, doing this on Blue will get your account banned. Technically I think it's also supposed to on Red, but as I understand it even GMs are afraid of visiting that server ;)

Never played on blue, but I know for a fact this won't get you banned on red. people do this all the time. Not sure why it would be illegal on blue, they've said that log monitors are not illegal. Its not like im away afk, i'm here just afk.

Maybe I misunderstood, but it's not the log part that would be the problem. It sounded like you were parking your pet on a mob's spawn point, then letting it sit there and repeatedly kill spawns while you were AFK (or at least AWP, away from pet, which seems kinda gray). Depending on what exactly you're doing it could violate his server rule:

It is against the rules to "afk camp" any npc or groups of NPC's by placing a pet nearby and letting it kill while you are away from your computer. Any other form of "afk camping/xping" is also against the rules, and you may be subject to disciplinary action (character de-leveling by deathloop is a popular punishment).

But again, for rules to matter, they have to be enforced, which requires GMs ... and while I don't play there, as I understand it Red doesn't have those.
