Question about old Mistmoore rumor

Was there ever any confirmation of the old rumor that the Maestro of Rancor model was actually the original Mayong Mistmoore model from the alpha/beta days when he spawned in the zone?

I love EQ lore, and now you've got me researching him.. here's some fun lore. I never knew he was only in game due to an event.. Seems super strange they have a zone named after him but he was never included in the beginning. Seems strange to have him in P99 too if he was just an event...

It would be cool if they included a version of Mayong to spawn in MM. The dagger he dropped would have been OP in the classic timeline, but would still be great for people adventuring there now.

He was bit too derpy for that. He couldn't get out of the water and his model was so big you could stiil cast on him safely from land. Like killing Jaws with a BB gun while he sun tans at the beach.

Not sure if this image is from p99, but if MM spawned on live before kunark, then the UI is not classic (right? that's velious UI?)

I always assumed this was the live Mistmoore but that UI got me wondering...

ITT I linked, they talk about wanting the staff to open up the planes, in this SS that cleric has full hate armor so probably not same? Maybe? We need a god damn record keeper on this EMU

As far as Mayong is concerned, yes he was part of classic. From research, mostly what I read about him was he would cause zone disruption, kill/lag everyone, crash Mistmoore, and then hang out at the zone line. (Not that hard to do, I think I could make it happen)

He was rumored to drop the Fanged Skull Stiletto (the dagger mentioned here) "very early in release."

The day before the server launched, I spawned lots of raid mobs in gfaydark and allowed the remaining testers to fight them. I heard NO complaints about Mayong and people seemed to think it was a great fight. Also, no one complained about him until he was killed.. really guys, almost 2 months?


So we can expect MM on Green99? mebbe :O what a pimp nilbog is, I wonder how many patches we can look forward to. Are we going to see exploits that got nerfed out, working before those live patch dates? ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)

I still believe it was a myth he's supposed to drop that. I also doubt he was ever killed in beta. Some people claim he only spawned and was killed in beta and dropped the dagger then. I call BS. There were only a tiny handful of high level characters by the end of beta. High level clerics were virtually unheard of. Tanks of any kind were incredibly rare 35+ Almost everyone was playing solo-friendly classes like druid, necro, mage, wizard.

@Jibartik that's the classic fullscreen UI which was available at launch, but there was also a screenshot UI where all the UI elements were hidden (as well as the god-awful tiny window UI some people inexplicably used). Iirc F11 cycled through them.
The Velious UI is really similar though it adds multiple chat windows and (I THINK) you could scale your buff/effects window.

The picture is legit from production servers(non emu) in fact I know the exact server it's from: Rodcet Nife.

Interesting that the "legend" about him was that he only spawned early on in release. But that dark elf in plate really makes me question the whole "early release" thing.

Its worth noting in that P99 thread from 2009 they talk about how some guilds did sneak into hate/fear before they were supposed to be live on blue99 so maybe its from that, but again I really think this is from live.

Actually funny thing about this SS is you can search for the player that took it on Alla and says they were on the rodcet knife server.

Though I wasnt able to find any of the other players in the shot.
