4th person view

Ah, the old 'hiding outside someone's window watching them play EQ' view.

Well played.

Both obviously. If you count the mouse scroll as third person then I spend 98% of the time in over the shoulder.

Third person because I need to see my character's glistening armors and the reflection of passerbys as they admire the top tier fashion. Did I mention how humble I am? Probably the best looking and most humble elf out of Kelethin.

What were we talking about again?

I never liked 3rd person view back in the day, and that persists to my p99 playing. I'm in first-person mode unless I need to peek around a corner to pacify something, use the FP banker from the hallway, or some other thing that's only possible from 3rd.

It took me forever to get out of the habit of staring at the ground to keep a decent framerate when lots of things were going on now that I'm playing on something better than the potato I had in '99.

Ah, the old 'hiding outside someone's window watching them play EQ' view.

Well played.

I actually see this as more of a "book not up" sort of PoV.

Third person whenever the camera isn't pushed in too closely by wall or hills. I also go into First person if I need specific placement, like right on the edge of a wall, or to avoid a trap. Mouse wheel makes it easy. Scroll out to max, and then in if for some reason I need to see better.

I scroll out with my mouse. Let’s me see like I’m in third person but doesn’t screw me up and disorient me when I go to move

If I’m just medding up or something I go into cinema view and toggle UI off for maximum immersion

Correct answer is 1st person because classic, but enjoy the mouse wheel scroll to appreciate your hard work on fashion quest while resting.

First person is correct and is how the game was designed to be played. Third person via mouse scroll shouldn't even exist during this game era.

I like to use 1st person most the time for immersion and title window view for situational awareness. For raids I just turn off the screen. The sea of severed body parts flying around and only being able to view a small fraction of the encounter is very awkward.

Bind Q to first person
Bind W to chase cam
Bind E to User defined 1

I change between them frequently while in combat. Bounce between chase and user defined 1 (alt+arrow keys/pg up/pg dn, insert, delete to move it) for situational awareness. Typically travel in chase or first person.

I'm frankly amazed. I find my character to just be 'in the way' if I play third person.

I feel this way sometimes when I play my troll SK, but being able to see what's going on around me is more worthwhile. It allows me to respond to situations more quickly compared to being in first person and not being able to see whats going on in my immediate vicinity.

I have to agree with Tuluven. Gotta be third person so I can see people admiring my glistening armor.

3rd person, but with my back against collision so the camera is shoved into my helmet, to provide helmetcam first person view.

If you play in first person exclusively chances are you are real bad at eq. That dude in your group or raid who doesn’t realize something is going down for a few seconds.

Same with the twirling. I don't know if P99 updates position the same way but when quadding on my wiz on live I developed that habit to stop interrupts, and to this day I am always spinning while casting.

Actually, funny that you mention that, I think turning will stop you from coming to a stop from running (which has a super short slow down to stopping, not sure if thats a latency thing or if you actually do slow to a stop in this game, or if its just a placebo effect) which is why you see many players do this before casting while running, it is more of a natural reflex, but I think there is a science to it. Not 100% sure though.

Always 1st and it probably has something to do with the initial creation of characters having that view. EQ has always been the only game I like to play in 1st. I tried playing WoW in 1st once and that was pretty awful.

So is playing EQ in 1st.... unless you're in a spot where it makes sense. There is seriously are no pluses to playing in 1st besides seeing straight infront of you.

:) it's hard to tell in text, plus I figured that even if you were, someone else out there might genuinely not know about it.

Really surprised to see 1st person is 31% of the vote. Unless you are swimming due to the bugged camera or inside some tunnel like Solusek then 3rd person is far superior for awareness. Although it's kind of fun playing in 1st person the novelty wears off pretty quickly after a returning train or roaming mob pins you down from behind.

I wouldn't mind seeing one of the green recycles be 1st person only just for the meme of it. Also old UI at the same time. Full masochist run.

3rd person self-targeting with self-inspect message spam is the most annoying thing. Any way to 100% prevent self-clicking in 3rd person?

As a Cleric I'm always a few seconds behind anyway. Purple Club FTW!

I just automatically resumed doing this when I started on P99 despite a solid decade of not touching EQ. Just a tiny turn to the left or right before I start casting, and then turning back the way I want to be facing as the cast counts down.

I am the worst EQ player. I am still wearing the same Crafted Breastplate and greaves that I quested nine years ago on here. So of course I play in first person.

Sadly third person. Situational awareness is so much more accessible this way. I played first person back in 1999 and I think that is actually how we all fell in love with the game. First person was able to fully ABSORB us into this world. Third person is sadly just so much more efficient at allowing us to respond to changes in a fight or environment.

I was playing tonight and I realized I spend much of my time, especially in outdoor zones looking for creatures with the camera that is like above your head? Idk what you call that camera, parascope cam?

I use that thing like virtually anytime I'm looking for something in an outdoor zone.

edit: ok yeah, this feels natural, Im doing it right now. It feels like basically my race is a hill giant and im stomping around the karanas in FPS camera mode.

Its handy if you don't do it give it a try. Just awkward when you run into town and forget. Its funny when I thought about it when I first read this post I didn't even know I used this camera.
