It seems like this facet of modern eq is one of the most game changing raid aspects.

It seems like this facet of modern eq is one of the most game changing raid aspects. How exactly would you propose that they enforce such a change?

I can't imagine how we'd ban them, but I've thought this the whole time.

To me EQ raiding comms can only be in-game text.

Voice comms for EQ is just weird.

There were voice chat programs in 2000 that I was using in Athens, GA at the time while playing EQ. I think it worked off of MS Chat or MSN/Windows Messenger. It was a long time ago. Even worked somewhat ok on my shitty @Home DSL connection with my 633 Mhz Celeron comp, with 768 Megs of RAM and a Voodoo 4 4500 PCI on Windows ME. Used to use it to chat with my friends while doing frost giants at the GD spires.

Shit was rare, but classic.

EDIT: Maybe have been early 2001 too, but it was before 9/11 as I PCS'ed to MCBH KBay in August of that year.

I recall raid leaders of vox/nag raids having to spam commands so you could see them through the fight spam. Let's not go back to that, mates.

Nothing ruins this game more than a bunch of nerds with asthma wheezing in your ear.

I'm pretty sure Roger Wilco was around before EQ and I'm absolutely sure it was around by the time Kunark released. Most people weren't super internet savvy back then though and weren't aware of it. I started using it for playing Fighter Ace because it's pretty damn hard to type in the middle of a dogfight.

I can type so fast thanks to everquest.

I remember using yahoo chat and icq circa 1999-2000 for voice chat so yeah it was a thing. Not every guild but certain basement dwelling neckbeards were for sure doing it.

I remember my guild started using Ventrilo during late-Luclin or early-PoP era. So maybe not exactly in "classic era", but close enough. Before that, it was raid leaders making 100 hotkeys with all-caps shout commands. No thanks.

Voice chat is annoying enough, but pales in comparison to the damage done by online video streaming.

Of course after so many years of training, let's also limit what you can type at 5 words per minute.

My school was poor, so our "Computer Class" was just a typing class. We'd listen to a record that had a metronome sound and the goal was to press keys in time to the clicks.

Came back from summer vacation and the teacher was so impressed that I "spent all summer practicing my typing"... Yeah, that's what I was doing. Had nothing to do with a new mmorpg.

You know, I only type with like 2-4 fingers, but I have the fastest two fingers in the west. When bitches complain to me who see me type they get confused at how quickly I do it anyway, and I dont even bother explaining to them how important it is to tell someone on rallos zek to eat a dick in chat while purples and backspace is disabled so you gotta get it right the first time.

Nowadays we got smart phones so everyone types like me but still that guy who purpled me is an asshole anyway :D

Hey, I have another great idea. Cable internet, for the most part, is not classic as most people in '99 were still on dial-up. Let's ban all broadband connections and make everyone go back to playing on 56k!!

(the above was sarcasm in case someone thinks I'm serious)

I actually minimize and/or avoid voice chat if possible. Activate maximum nostalgia mode.

I do this too...

I love playing everquest, but as soon as I become part of some like, 'social group' I get as much anxiety playing this game as I had with my irl social groups I was avoiding in the first place, so then I am afraid to log in! So to avoid logging in, I go outside and interact with my irl friends again! Then one of them asks me to go to a party, and suddenly I'm in a group chat, making plans ugh.. now I have to reverse the order, get back online so I can avoid all those social responsibilities!

...Its an endless circle. :o
