I know the Dogs are on VS faction in KC, but can I kill the undead in the basement without taking faction hits with VS?

Only the stuff actually on vs faction gives hits iirc.

Basement is largely unfactioned.

yeah undead have no faction, maybe the warlord does? Watch out those golem looking things are alive :o

.I had heard a rumor about the big dog / small dog difference where one was a faction hit and the other wasn't. I'm not in game to test this though

Small dog no faction hit oh yea! If I'm wrong I will delete a character.

I ask because I am an ogre warrior working on the OT hammer faction quest. I really like having OT as a bank/vender spot due to how close it is to the nexus in TD. I want to see what areas I can't EXP as I get closer to 50. I know Charasis and KC both give VS faction hits. I don't plan on doing VP any time soon to max my VS faction.

stay in basement or turnkey groups, avoid big dogs, you should be fine!

Just reload your last save game if you see a faction hit while leveling there jk thats not possible because eq is real life

I believe some monsters in Kaesora also has faction hits, iirc

It may be safest to hunt elsewhere (like the hole) if you want to be safe you don't get accidental faction hits.

OT is not a good vendor spot. Sure it's fine for buying cheap supplies, but remember the vendors in OT are 'greedy'. Greedy vendors charge more and pay less.

You can bank in OT even KoS; just go up to the wall, 3rd person to right click on the banker, though I am told you can just right click the bankers through the wall! Beware of dragoons though.

If you want to stay non-KoS after getting your hammer, the hits in KC aren't too bad, top up occasionally with an afternoon hunting berserker braids. I've found HS to be the place with the really big negative hits to VS!

Beware even in basement pullers might bring in factioned mobs.

The main reason I don't like playing a warrior is feeling stuck/helpless in places. Making sure you have Sow pots and invis clickies. If I am in a group deep in a dungeon and I need out I can just hammer myself away to OT to log safely. I plan on getting Jboots and quilmain's cloak so that I can get to the port nexus in TD within a reasonable time after Hammering to OT

This, but just as importantly, you don't even need the vendors there!

Let's say you're out of food, you hammer to OT, and you're starving. Just walk out of the fort over to the mud pits (towards the WW side of the zone), and there's an Iksar female who sells food and drink to everyone regardless of faction.

So really the only thing anyone needs the actual OT "city" itself for is the bank, and as mentioned you can totally mess up your faction (by, you know, actually playing the game like you should) abd use the banker without faction ... if you're careful. If not ... "Goons to FM ZL!!!" ;)

Never go to KC or Howling stones. The Hole has some of the best experience in game, camps everywhere and isn't as bad as most people fear it to be. I found as a Troll SK the most consistent, long duration exp sessions came from the hole. I'm always willing to show people around. Wedar's guide is also incredibly helpful.

Another option, if you like sitting around with LFG tag up go to Chardok.

With a ToD you could probably solo very efficiently at the pond assuming you have a hammer to get out. Grab a shaman friend and you can duo the hole very well.

Shoot me a PM and we can see about getting a group together.

I can kind of get behind avoiding KC (as it's sort of a "lowest common denominator" place), but some people have to go there. Some quests, like the Shaman Cann II quest, require it. Lot of good clickie armor drops there (although that can be bought), and also a piece of the VP key quest drops there, so it's not entirely avoidable to many.

Same with Kaesora (you need it for HS key and some other quests). HS isn't required for much (Spirit Wracked Cord mainly), but the zone is awesome and you're only hurting yourself if you miss out on that amazing zone. Loramin got like his last four levels in HS basement, and even that was a really bad camp for Shaman ... relative to how great it is for Necros.

I really think "avoiding key dungeons" is the wrong way to play Kunark; avoiding using the OT vendors (and getting your OT hammer via puppet strings) is the "right" or at least "smart" way IMHO.

Being able to "Gate" as a warrior is priceless, being able to gate some where with a bank and friendly NPCs... some how even more priceless. Being close to TD Nexus.... SOME HOW EVEN MORE priceless.

Go camp the goblin earring in warsilks woods. also accidentally get some FV faction that way.

FV Vendors are neutral
all other guards and NPCs are on the same FV faction. then again i never did a full explore I just go to the bank and nearby vendors on my iksar monk

never worry about OT faction again

Reportedly some of the NPCs are on Antonica / Faydwer factions, but yeah FV works for the good races.

OP is a warrior, and doesn't need to worry about spells, so it's just a matter of being able to bank without issue. For the "evil classes" they're gonna need Cabilis faction.

FV or Cabilis is a bit of a dangerous hike at lower levels. (I hate WW with a passion.)

Yes; I believe every vendor in the zone is. But the important part is that she's not on OT faction (or Iksar for that matter).

For most higher level characters who need to restock food/water, the cost isn't the problem. But for many of them the OT faction is.

I'm fairly certain all the non-Cabilis vendors in Kunark (except the dwarf in LoIO) are greedy.

Just make thurgadin gate potions and use when you need to bank. They aren't hard to make, and many guilds recommend this if you ever plan to raid.

I like Thurgadin gate potions too, but convenience-wise there's no question the OT Hammer is better. The hammer you have to wait 0-3 minutes for it to proc, and maybe it takes 1-2 minutes to find something/someone to wallup on, for a worst case scenario of five minutes time spent per "gate".

But the Thurgadin gate potions require going to CC and farming just to get the materials (a very significant time sink), and then each time you have to run around doing combines to remake your potion that take up to five minutes also (you have to run around more if you've saved stuff in the bank, as you have to chisel up your banked velium first).

Sure you don't have to run to CC and farm every time, but (assuming you have other stuff in your bank) you still have to go farm every five gates or so. When you add it all up the gate potions take way longer.

One of the real benefits of that faction is being able to pull undeads single and fear kite with plenty of space near the KC zoneout while others are waiting around lfg. Seen a few twinked SKs doing this regularly.

I thought the Firiona Vie vendors weren't? Bought food/drink there before and didn't remember double prices :/

I believe on of the elf vendors in a hut by the bank is greedy. The others seemed normal to me.
