View Full Version : Mouselook Skipping

Ever since I've started playing I've had an issue where my view skips around everyonce in awhile when using mouselook. Mouselook is usually 100% smooth for me, but when this 'skipping' happens it'll suddenly turn me in another direction (usually something like a sudden 180 degree turn), which is very annoying. This has even killed me a few times by turning me right back around into my pulls. :(

Anyone have any ideas what could cause this / more importantly, would anyone be able to propose a potential solution!?

Thanks

Does it happen in other games too? I've noticed that with mice other than my MX518 if I move and lift at the end of the motion my characters in some games (if movement is mouse controlled) will immediately look upwards and spin.

Nope. Just EQ :(

I'd suggest trying to figure out if it's your mouse setup first, and if the problem still happens then it's in the game/software settings.

If optical mouse, try new mouse pad (without reflective surfaces, all one dark color). If it keeps occurring, try a different model mouse.

Edit: Trying a different mouse pad seems silly, but I had a mouse pad way back when that had a huge list of HTML colors and the hex codes to go with it... My mouse would go wonky when I moved over the yellows.

Is your chipset the same as your graphics card? I had that same problem on my other machine (which is exactly the same as the one I have now) except the old one had an ati chipset while this one has nvidia. I used the same graphics card on both machines and it's an nvidia card. The computer I use now with the nvidia chipset has no hitching at all.

This is a common issue, no fix for it really.

I have this same problem, Windows 7, Intel Processor, Nvidia Graphics, and it jumps bad, and has thrown me in the lava in SolA a couple times.

I have an NVIDIA Chipset / ATI Graphics Cards. Perhaps part of the problem?

It's just strange that every other game runs 100% smooth and EQ runs 100% smooth all the time except for this mouselook issue. This never happens when using the keyboard to move and look up/down.

Happens to me as well on occasion. I think it may be the result of a background process (Windows) that lags the game a bit?

Dunno, really.

No, I have Nvidia Chipset and Nvidia card. It happens on all sorts of hardware. It has to do with frameskipping in EQ. Lowering the "100" FPS max in options may help, but it doesn't bother me enough to have experiemented with that. So I dont know if that yields results.

I've definitely tried changing the FPS. I run eq with my fps set at 60. Turning off windows aero seems to make the problem less apparent(or maybe my imagination?), but even when I do it's still there and bad enough to almost get me killed every once in awhile!

I have also lowered FPS to 60, and even 40 in SolA due to other bugs with that zone causing lag. And I still get the screen jump for sure in SolA.

Are any of you guys using high resolution textures?

I think it's more of a timing related issue. It usually happens to me when someone zones in, or on a "tick" - like the client pauses for a millisecond to load a new texture, but hiccups and refreshes your positional information while turning. I remember this on live as well, once I started using mouse-look. Mouse-look turning can spin you 360deg several times in the time it takes keyboard turning to make one rotation, so the effects are much more apparent using mouse-look.

Example: You're turning 180deg and someone zones in. You were at 90deg when the textures started loading, and 180deg when it's done, but the client refreshes at the 90deg point, causing a "jump."

I get this too. Often in dungeons such as Sol B or when I have a lot of spell effects on. Max FPS is set to ~30fps. I always assumed this was a quad core issue.

Could be a quad issue.. I have a QX9300. I have it set to single core via msconfig however.

One of the varied reasons my AoE pulls as a Bard go sour is because of this or random client shutdowns. Not much you can do. I turn down my far-clip plane as much as possible to not stress my computer as much. It helps.

I run quad as well, no to the high res textures.
