Hey all!
Newbie question here as I can't quite remember...
WoW has ruined me when playing MMO's... I remember enjoying EQ much more than I enjoyed WoW, but is there an easy way to tell if there are quests for me to do at my level? I know that there are no "Hey Over Here!" Yellow exclaimation marks to indicate a certain npc is offering a quest.
I'm assuming 98-99% of my earned exp will come from grinding/camps, but didn't know how people know of certain quests they can do instead? Do you just have to do your research on allakhazam/wiki's etc? Also, no quest log right? Other than your own pen & paper?
Thanks for the help all! Can't wait to get off work to hop back on! :)

EQ is not user friendly, and yeah.. more like 99.9% of your exp will come from grinding, solo or groups. The focus of EQ quests is items, not exp. Yeah no quest log, but there is a /note function which you can write it and it saves your notes. And finally, yes research = win in EQ. If there is one thing I can tell you about EQ is DO YOUR RESEARCH. There is NOTHING worse then going through all the time and effort of a long, progressive quest only to realize that the item that you want wasn't added until an expansion that came out 5 years later. You also have to keep in mind that sites like allakhazam have been updated for current (live) EQ. So some of those items have been nerfed, or have yet to be nerfed on this server. When in doubt ask people in game - and if they're unfriendly then keep posting here and I'll help you out =D.

EverGrind imo!
The only valuable exp quests I can think of are lower level ones such as gnoll fangs, and CB belts/pads, but those start to lose steam around 10 or so. The orc/gnoll scalp quests and goblin ears are still sort of decent in the low to mid 20s, but it's more of something you should just hold on to and do if you're exping around hhk, not something I would go out of my way to do.

I've done some quests level appropriate at 20+ and the exp was dismal. A complete nonfactor. I'd love to know if something out there is worthwhile for 25+ but after gnoll fangs and bandit sashes questing for exp pretty much disappears from what I know.

As far as I know, with the exception of a few low level quests mentionned, questing has only 2 purposes:
- getting some specific gear (and very often you will save some time by farming the cash and buying some equivalent or better pieces of equipment)
- working on your factions

I think the most experience I've gotten from a quest is the two bars that you get from your guild summons at level 1. >.>

There are 2 ways to find quests in EQ:
- Read about em on the internet.
- Hail NPC's until one gives you a quest.
Note that EQ quests are faction-dependent (high faction with an NPC might open up a quest), but not at all level-dependent (NPC's will tell you about a quest no matter what level you are), so be careful about where you go traipsing off to.

-MookaEQ is a good game, but it's not perfect. It could be improved indefinitely just like any other game. Some people like certain gameplays more than others, but the features themselves that exist in the game can almost always be made better in the same way that graphics can be bettered.
Yes, you pretty much have to look on allah or have a guide or have a friend to know which quest is worth doing and it's also needed to finish certain portions that're not well explained in the game.
You can sometimes find good quests on your own by talking to non-players. It's not impossible. But if there is one thing I would improve in EQ it would be how quests are delivered and how players solve them. I don't like all of the hand-holding in modern games, but some extra information would be appropriate if it's in context and not too obtrusive. I should not have to look on allah or have a walkthrough (even) or walk from one side of norrath to the other in order to find leads and information. There should be more clues and effort put into making quests more meaty and loved.
Nonetheless, some fun can be had doing the quests. Just don't get mad when you're told to recover an item in the sewers and you have no idea where to find the bad guy that has it. He could be a rare named that pops on a rat spawn, so you'd need to kill all the rats in the zone. He could be in a hole at the bottom of the zone next to a high level that you need the right faction to pass by. He could be invisible. All of this might sound interesting, but try camping all the rats in a zone to get a named to spawn. It's not very inspiring.
If you go into this using allah it won't be as painful, but it's boring knowing the answers.
