The Project 1999 staff will be holding the EQ Test of Tactics event on a date TBA. Since our server differs from what live had in 2000, our ToT will be the following;

o 1 full group (6 players) per guild of any class makeup. Everyone in the group must be representing the same guild.
o The event will be held at the Arena
o Spectators will be limited to 100 players
o The winning group will be granted the title of "the Tactician"
o Group members need to be level 57+

Further rules will be announced as we get closer to the event. Gather your group members, and PM me or SG Menden with your Guild name and members representing your Guild for the official Project 1999 Test of Tactics.

also, as there is less servers ( 2 ) than on line with test of tactics, if it becomes cross server ( it should be, that's classic) in the finals will more teams advance to the final tournament? ( 3 each from red and blue, instead of 1 since theres 2 servers). IF NOT....why not just do the whole tourny at once on 1 server combined blue & red since there is less servers?

Thanks for putting this event on. But I want to echo what Aalpha/Bbeta said... the wording is kind of confusing. Does each guild only get one group? Can a 6 man group be from various guilds or even un-guilded?

It will be far different from the origional ToT though.. players gear wasn’t nearly as elite back then so casters could actually land spells. Now teams will consist of 1 bard and 5 melees.

Although this GM event will still be great, it would also be cool for a group challenge GM event against random tough mobs or 1 mob. Each group would have a totally random challenge. One group may have a singular tough mob, while another group may have 4-5 moderately tough mobs, while another 20-30 easy mobs etc.. Thus, a group would need to be well balanced and thought out for the unexpected challenge. Furthermore, this would be more inline with p99 blue server and what a well balanced group on p99 blue looks like (Enc, Clr, Tank, DPS, etc, etc). Maybe a GM event in future could be more like the later.

Why don't you just create temporary characters on blue for the red teams? This isn't difficult. It's really, really dumb to have a team-based PvP tournament and not allow PvP-dedicated players to compete.

I hope GMs/Staff would reconsider this. Red would probably only muster a handful of groups if at that, so a red-only tournament will be extremely small.

Plus this would be a unique experience where red and blue players can interact.

A PvP event that in the classic timeline was cross server and this PvP event has rewards that you cannot obtain through standard PvP. Also want to point out that the event only allows 1 group from each guild so to act like this is focusing on the majority is funny.

If you can't defeat the comparatively undergeared players on red, you don't deserve a fancy title. Unique rewards like titles are meant to be earned, not something given to you like lunch money to a child.

I'm curious to see just how no-clicky the no-clicky policy ends up being. Like, no summoned mage clickys? No epic clicks? Just no external consumables that aren't part of your gear? I get why you would want to make sure we're not going to have everyone rocking 10 golem metal wands and 70 10 dose wort pots, but the exact degree of no-clickyness is going to impact how this plays out a lot.

ToT doesn't exist at all on Red server, much less daily. People don't just fight each other with hand-picked groups of 6 players only.

Clickies played a major role. Whether you think that's a good thing or not is a separate matter.

Having the blue winners fight the red winners would mimic the original. Having red mop up blue despite a gear gap would also mimic the original.

It's plain none of you were there, since there's a major omission from the design of the event that no one has brought up: The Test of Tactics teams had SEVEN members, not six. You got six roster slots, plus a coach. Someone who wasn't in the fight, but could issue instructions to his or her team. This made a huge difference.

The coach position sounds amazing. I have some ideas on how I might want to approach this. They would need additional testing, but even if a plan comes together, its not going to include me as an active team member. I'm pretty sure there's no path to victory here that involves a keyboard turning rogue with mid-tier raid gear as a critical component.

The guildleader of the guild that won the game-wide Test of Tactics was level 57 and half-geared.

Class composition of winning team was:

NEC

WAR

Don't remember if the coach could rotate in as a player, or if he had to be set aside as coach for every match. Because I see the bard fighting in some of the matches (in the video), but I could swear he was also the coach in some matches. Amazing that even if you know the names of the winners, you still can't find any archived patch notes about the event through Google.

Also, I remembered wrong about AoN. The PvP server teams used it plenty!

Soulfires were used in ToT. Between that and Conquests ventani attempt is what got it nerfed.
