I started playing EQ when I was much too young to take the time to learn the game. Basically I gimped my character, was just so mesmerized by the fact that there were real people in game, never read anything, just wandered around. Even having completed basically no content in the game, I still thought the Luclin expansion ruined the fun for me.
ANYWHO

Does anyone remember a short period of time when you could log in and choose to play as random NPC's? Like a giant spider in Nek Forest? Or is my memory just making this up?

Yeah you could log as mobs for a while. I never got a good mob but did spawn as an orc orracle once. pretty cool.

Unfortunately it will likely never happen here (it's one of those things that'd be kind of fun for players, but would be MASSIVE effort for the devs, and the devs have said something to that effect ... although I don't think they'e 100% categorically ruled it out either).

I remember that. It was just too goofy for me. It was always obvious which NPCs were players because they wouldn't path like a NPC would. I seem to recall that coming out right when Luclin did.
