View Full Version : Why did you pick your class?

I picked a bard because when I joined the server I had initially wanted to roll a beastlord as it was one of the few classes I had never played at higher levels on live and I remembered them being very easy to solo with, but of course this server was only classic content 1-50 at the time, not progression based as I had thought (reading is fundamental kids) so beastlord was not, nor ever will be an option. From the classes available I decided bard because the highest bard I had on live was 56, a supertwink alt, and had been powerleveled for most of those levels. I wanted to play something fun, with lots of utility, and that I didn't have hundreds of days /played with. In addition to having utility I thought that just starting out only having 1 song to worry about per level(unlike casters), and not being overly gear dependent (pure melee) would be a pretty sweet advantage for somebody with no money.
Why did you pick your class as a main? Was it what you played on live? Was it a practical decision? Your buddy needed a good class to duo with his warrior so you picked cleric? What's the story behind your class? Are you happy with it?

I've always played a Ranger since the start.
I feel weird playing any other class. Just a creature of habit, I guess.

Because Necro's are OP and I knew it was EZmode to farm plat for a fun class.

started out as an SK because I knew a few people who told me how in demand tanks were, enjoyed it well enough I suppose but never really loved it, always had a mage alt when I played EQ live and it was always the class i had the most fun with, so when I grew bored with the SK I never really wanted to roll in the first place I went with a mage, and I am absolutely loving it, super fun class to both solo and group with.

I started a rogue because I had never played a melee class in Eq before; actually had never played anything besides my necro and maybe my brother's paladin here and there. I have never been an "alt guy".
So all in all, I'm having lots of fun as it is very different than what I did as a necromancer!
Also, I wanted a melee dps 'cause I just feel doing the dps is whats fun;
didn't get monk because I didn't want to be pulling
didn't pick ranger cause....lol ranger =P

Playing an Iksar Nec because that's what I played on Live and couldn't imagine playing anything else, at least yet. I never got all the way to 60 (56 when Luclin came out and my interest died) so I'd like to take this char there and get the epic duck head scythe too.
An alt will probably be a chanter. It would be nice to play a class other people actually want in groups.

also, I forgot to mention, the main reason for picking SK then mage is that my true class of choice is not available here... Berserker ftw!

i made a magician becasue iv'e always been a mage and always loved it. that class just feels so complete in its role and very good at soloing.
then i rolled a rouge because i have never been a all melee char in any mmo ive ever played. having alot more fun with the rouge then i expected thought i would lose interest but so far its alot of fun.
i want a bard but its a hard class to play without at least a littlebit of money invested in gear and my highest lvl char is 20 right now so that wont be for a long time

i decided when i came here (first time on a non pvp server) that since there was no pvp i would need a class with FD. and then i decided that a necro would be a better first char than a monk because of gear needs with the monk.
oh, and i dont hate myself enough to play a SK.

Necro, because playing a paladin sucked ass the first time through.

Rolled wizard because I didn't play that much classic EQ to begin with. And I had a wizard back then port me once and I thought it was bad ass.
So I created a wizard. Then the tell's asking for ports started...
and never stopped.

I never really understood anything about Bards, I just remember how much I loved having them in my group because they'd always give me little 12 second buffs with the silly names. I thought they were mostly a grouping class and I kind of wanted to roll something with less of an offensive role after having played a tank 10 years ago. I also didn't think I'd be that serious about this server so I wanted to roll something fun. I definitely made the right choice in the end, I can't imagine enjoying any class anywhere near as much as I enjoy playing my Bard.

I thought EverQuest would be much more roleplay than it was, although I was "blessed" with a server that was very open to roleplayers. I put lot of thought into what I'd play, based on roleplay.
When I saw dark elves, I knew I was going to play one. I wanted to be important in their culture, and be involved in the furtherance of their Dark God's will.
So I rolled a Cleric.
I ask you - why is it that a cleric to the Prince of Hate, the Lord of Ire, the Seething God.... is a healer? Tunarean priests cast the very same spells as a priest of Innoruuk. It made no sense to me.
So I deleted, and played a class I deemed truer to the faith. A Necromancer. Ask Cristanos Thex - she agrees with me!

I picked necro for my main, since it was my second-favorite class back in the day and because I fully enjoy the class and the game when soloing with a necro.
Enchanter is my favorite class, but I decided against one because my play time is usually on off-hours and usually not in one, long, daily session... hence trying to get into groups would have been impossible, or at least extremely frustrating.

I rolled a monk because I wanted to actually do DPS and get groups this time around. The thought of playing a Paladin again hurt my soul.

Everything about the Necromancer just screamed ruthless, brutal efficiency to me. And that was before I really even experimented with charm and pact healing. No-brainer for me. Can solo all the way to 60 or be the glue guy of a group.

Played a shaman religiously on live, absolutely loved it, sheltered it and cared for it for years!
Came here and didn't want to continue the trend, its all about rediscovering old content - so why not discover a new race/class combo?
Then Brik was born, a troll SK... and no doubt a challenge to level with the penalties! Enjoying my first tank assignment, really enjoy pulling - I think I'm onto a winner :)

I picked a Cleric because when I was creating my character, it was like 4:00am and there was less than 200 people online, which led me to believe that there wasn't a whole lot of people playing on this server and that finding groups might be tough. (I didn't take into account that it was 4am cuz I was so excited to play I wasn't thinking straight) So I picked the one class I know can almost always find a group. :)
My characters on Sony's servers were a 70 Warrior (main) and 54 Cleric. This time I'll switch it up, play the Cleric as my main, and have a melee alt. Not gonna play a warrior though, since I had hundreds upon hundreds of days /played before. Been there done that kinda thing. peace

ENCs were seriously OP when server started. Since then I picked NEC alt cause they can kill, and CLR main for guild support.
Picked a wizard because I wanted ease of travel. As a cleric on live, one thing I always longed for was massive nukes. I got on here and thought, hey, why not?
Then I got stuck on Odus until level 16 because those stupid sharks were able to travel on land. :| It was miserable, but I have never regretted only being able to open up cans o' whoopass and nothing else.

I picked druid, although nerfed, they have the solo ability, and because they can fill more then one rule in a group, even though i find myself healing most of the time.
