Like the title says. I played Paladin for a while in original release back in the day and only got up to 15. But it was painfully boring class to play. Recently on P99 I played SK for a bit and it was a little more engaging. But I don't want to play an evil class.
What are your recommendations?
I enjoy melee more. I die alot because I make bad choices. My most used ability on Paladin was Lay on Hands.

Paladins are pretty bland early on. They are more interesting, imo, once they get a wider variety of useful spells and other classes can support their mana use (bard song, clarity eventually)... like once you're lulling to pull, or helping CC with roots, or working to interrupt casters with stuns instead of just blinding one thing and smacking it to keep aggro.
If paladin was boring with spells, I can't imagine you'll have more fun as any of the pure melees who have like, one or two buttons they use besides autoattack.
Bards are very "engaging." Although depending on who you ask that really should be said as "RSI inducing" or "I would need ADHD to keep up with all the twisting I should do to get the most out of this class."
Most casters are more engaging (without bard-levels of business) than melee and hybrids. In approximate order of busy-ness: (bard would be here), enchanter, necromancer, shaman, (SK, pal, ranger are probably here), druid, cleric, (monk probably here? higher if you're the puller), (other melee here, more active than mage/wiz but with little variety), magician, wizard.

Rangers and Shaman tank just fine until 40-45 or so and have very interesting kits that offer some interesting utility. Might have people looking sideways at a shaman tank at first, but it works and its fun.
