Best First Loot?

You're level 1, in the newbie area. You have a paper-thin tunic, and a crappy weapon.

You see a level 1 mob with a staff and race to engage.

You somehow win, with multiple increases in Offense, Defense, and your basic weapon.

You go to loot and find:

- A Cracked Staff
- A Backpack

What else is plausible and could make this first loot better?

I vaguely recall my best loot from a level 1 mob (I think it was a decaying skeleton), they had a cracked staff, a cloth tunic, 2 bone chips, and an iron ration. It was wild to see like 5 things on a lvl 1 mob.

It is funny - I played a bit last night just to get a feel for the game again (haven’t played in 15 years). Had a skellie drop a cracked staff and was immediately excited about it, but couldn’t for the life of me remember why I was so excited about it.

I really have missed this game.

Best level 1 weapon for those that can equip it. Capable of 1 hitting all level 1 mobs.

I'm hoping for an early worn staff - potential 12 dmg in between level 1-4 nukes is very nice for early cleric/wizard.

Would still use into teens as wizard/cleric solo until a higher dmg 2handed is avail/purchased.

My recollection is that bags/boxes dropped much more often in original release than it does on p99.
