View Full Version : Show me your viewport UI setup

So right now im just running 1920x1080 with a similar window config to what i used on blue.

I would like to use viewport and I messed around with it a bit using the two options

/viewport 480 0 1440 1080 which gave me a 480 wide black box on the side. I was decently happy with how i could fit my windows over there but i hated the view area being offset to the side and not in my center view

my 2nd attempt was something like (i cant remember exact numbers)
/viewport 240 0 1440 800 which gave me a centered view area and blank black space at the bottom for the chat boxes, but i couldn't come up with a good arrangement of UI elements in the small 240 blank space on either side.

So what have you guys come up with for your viewport UIs? Please try to include the /viewport command you used if you remember the numbers you used.

Everquest cuts off the top and bottom of your view to stretch out the screen for widescreen. In short, you actually lose view if you play in fullscreen/widescreen so most of us play in 4:3 with a viewport setting to see as much as we can.

This looks very interesting. I think I will try this at home. I have a laptop that is 1920 x 1080 I believe the 4:3 aspect ratio in the example looks really nice.

Yes. I use it and love it. I never thought I would, now I will never go back to widescreen in this game!

Interesting. I play in 1900x1000 window. Been trying to figure out what a 4:3 ratio would be of this window heh.

42" 1920x180 LCD I sit about 7 feet away.

Video mode set to 1280 x 720(16:9) Not ideal for eye candy but totaly fine for 20 year old EQ.

/viewport 220 0 840 630(4:3) background tint 50 50 50. The actuall size of the viewport is about 25" diagonal.

All is very comfortably readable except tracking.. I still haven't dialed in the background tint for the tracking window where the red, blue and green cons are all easily readable.

Thanks Aescher. I didnt consider trying a lower base resolution. I might toy around with 1280x720 and see if i can make things fit better. Thanks for the reply!

Why would you need to use viewport if your windowed at 1440 1080 to begin with?

Why would you need to use viewport if your windowed at 1440 1080 to begin with?

Use it for full screen. It puts two black bars on each side. Some people move UI elements to the blank space to free up view space. How I had mine setup it wouldn't let me move my mouse or set items into the blank spaces. I couldn't display GINA or have the internet open/windows open. Discord is not on my computer anymore nor could I open it with the way I had it setup.

I spent my weekend interacting in chat mostly in /ooc.. laughing at blind humans and their weak genetics (dark elf). Demanding the dock guards be tossed into shark infested waters for letting Pale elfs, dorves and tree elfs into Freeport.

I did it to recapture some of the original restrictions which in part defined the game. Classic as I could get it.

Is it possible to put the black bars at the bottom and top?

Yes. The 1st two numbers in the viewport command is the positon of the view area in pixels from the top left.

for example 480 0 1440 1080
this moves the viewarea over 480 pixels and 0 pixels from the top. and displays the view area as 1440 pixels wide and 1080 tall.

for example 0 0 1920 800
This will put a black bar at the bottom of your screen.

or for black bars at top and bottom something like 0 200 1920 800

to reset use /viewport reset

I'm going to try a couple of the setups shown here and as a last ditch crazy effort i have also grabbed an old 15 inch square 4.3 ratio monitor from work and im going to take it home and see how it looks lol.

this is what im coming up with, based on Black Bellamy but using a 1920x1080 monitor.

i used /viewport 348 0 1224 768

Its not a perfect 4.3 ratio but i wanted to fill out the rest of the space to fit inventory window.

Its still a work in progress, i plan on putting more chat windows on the side

I think its dooable. I wanted to work on one for my own personal reasons but with all these posts I think that it's something we'll want to get into this project for us all to opt into one day. Assuming we can get it right.

There is one UI that is going around that some folks have linked that uses some classical elements to work with the titanium client, and its damn close to what our's would end up looking like, but there are a bunch of textures in it that are not original that I think we can make more accurate. And a bunch of its functionality still needs work to get it right, so IMO its better to just start our own from scratch because we do have most of the original assets to work with.

My plan was to make a 640 one for players to opt into using, but maybe with all these viewport examples it should be customizable.

No matter what, this version of the UI would require the user to move and place the windows around and lock them into place like a puzzle. So I bet some users will creates some pretty hideous layouts with it that will be very cringe inducing lol

I have a feeling if we had one that was classic & functioned good, we could allow users to /loadskin velious or /loadskin classic and it would swap between the two. But getting it right for everyone, is a lot of work and I dont think we should expect us to rush it. As much as I would love to, that last push to get the UI you are using now was a pretty unhealthy work life balance for everyone involved I think lmao

That space on the left is just a general space for any window I don't want to obscure the other elements. I don't need those to be persistent. I check the skill window once in a while. I don't run around with my inventory or bags open. It's there in the screenshots to show the available space for that sort of thing.

I do wish there was a way to pin the windows open though.

Gunnie

Here is the viewport math to get a centered viewport, if anyone is interested.

If windowed game resolution is 1024x768 and you want a 640x480 viewport, then 1024-640=384 divided by 2 = 192, so /viewport 192 0 640 480 will give you a centered viewport.

Another example, windowed game resolution 1280x960 and you want a 800x600 viewport, then 1280-800=480 divided by 2 = 240, so /viewport 240 0 800 600.

When you upload a EQ BMP Screenshot directly to imgur it does this I think. If you convert to PNG before uploading to IMGUR it won’t do that.
