Early Azrael, probably version 1.3, we are fighting Nihilum in Plane of Fear and all hell's breaking lose at the portal. Despite the mayhem Tune and I are dotting the fuck out of one another. A set of mobs clobbers me, I am down to 30%. Another round; 1%. Tune won't have his kill taken away from him. Motherfucking rolls up and with a 5 damage uppercut, he gets his kill.

I remember being part of a fight at Karnor's Castle, perhaps the big hundred-something-people one. Lite was shredding on a rogue or warrior or something. I must have died on Tala or Havona, because I asked what I could do to help. Without missing a beat, Lite told me to log in...Lite. Moments later, I received temporary login info over Teamspeak.
I logged in, heart pounding, and did my best to bardspeed a group of our guys while dispelling the buffs of the Evil Empire. I don't think I was terribly effective, tbh, because I received a tell from someone else on our team saying "fucking golem wand." I interpreted this as gruff advice and I used up the rest of Lite's golem wands and pumice on the targets he called.
It was an honor to log into The Minstrel. Lite and I barely knew each other at the time (and we still don't, tbh), so I appreciate the blind trust he placed in me by letting me log in - and potentially die on - his beloved main. And I didn't die on Lite, tyvm. Pretty sure I plugged. :p

I wish Erock would post about that time he on Darkside and Lite on Brennard wrecked a full group (including a young Fandango) in Howling Stones. Awesome vid.

proof we need slow classic xp
false. normal guys with jobs and/or wives, kids, hobbies, friends, legs don't level 1-60 in a week even with the exp bonus. I remember when red got back to around 250 pop when they implemented the group exp bonus only to PLUMMET back down to 50 when Sirken and Co removed it to foster low level pvp that never happened.

Naw dawg.
We're all 30+ years old now. They will kill the server before it launches if they have normal xp rate.
The 'low level' pvp kings rolling around wth OP classes just need to deal with the fact they will have to level to max, eventually.

what does this have to do with tune?

what does this have to do with tune?
Oh! So I got their titles crossed! Woops.
Tune, then? Ok. Best I can remember off the top of my head is when he was farming DN for...I think the fastest bow out of there? And Flayed Paebala Gloves dropped...and he announced, with so much pain in his voice, that they were rotting and he wouldn't be able to loot them on Drybone, and I came as swift as a Freeport jig and looted them on Tala. Tune was happy for me, but also really coveting them hard. XD Poor guy. But he did the noble thing by at least letting someone else know. He was usually pretty selfless.
But I suppose this is well after his Virtuoso years. By then, he had become a purple-diaper-wearing Ogre monstrosity. I wanna hear from all you old fogies.

New red, if it actually happens ( doubt it ) will need the new exp buff bonuses or i think most will just burnout leveling
i know i cant do classic exp

I liked when, on his first character, Fallen, Big Frank no-lifed 18 hour days for 2 weeks and got to the mid 30s ahead of the pack. Fell asleep at keyboard with his cleric bound outside of Unrest. The powerful Sojourner/Danth/Epas trained Bilge Farfathom on the zone line and snared it.
Fallen deleveled from high 30s down to 30. Big Frank made a cry post appealing to Paymelinda for a level restore. Big Frank claimed, at the time, that the reason he fell asleep was a 'medical condition.'
Paymelinda relented and awarded Big Frank half of the levels back, i'm sure they worked out some form of marshmallow_for_levels deal.

Diabetes is a medical condition
if its induced by complete and total inactivity and 90% of your diet being carbs thats beside the point.

not Type 1
Epidemic joining Apex during the Apex vs Ragnarok wars and thinking I was going to be joining forces with at least a handful of good pvpers. I quickly came to the realization that 95% of the guild were playing red only to have a higher chance of farming end game content uncontested. I've always liked playing as the underdog but joining that guild was the sole reason I lost respect for the "zerg" and people like Tune I had been playing against for years. From day one I was thrown into being MA in pvp and we won a handful of fights early on over small Velious targets like Statue and meaningless skirmishes that were not mob related. I was given access to Cyrens ranger Dory in order to stay alive longer due to the fact I was primary target in PVP and without myself or other Epidemic members the fights were embarrassing. Biggest mistake of my EQ career and it was all thanks to the "Virtuoso". Thanks Tune.

That's your biggest mistake/regret? Ooof, i dont know, you had some big ones. If joining the zerg for a couple of months after 7 years on a dead server is your biggest regret you have a pretty clean conscience.
I don't know Tune at all, never spoken to him in 10 years of playing on the same server as him. I don't prefer his play style or his attitude but everyone that guilds w/ him seems to think pretty highly of him.
You must have a pretty low opinion of Tune if after a decade of back-stabbing your own guilds the biggest mistake was playing with Tune for a few weeks.

He just wanted to look cool by joining this pile on Tune.
Tune was in fact a super helpful member of the red community, he was very good at taking total EQ newbies under his wing and helping them get started too. The people who go out of their way to help others are who I always respected on this server.
Most of the trash posting these days were the self serving vain-glorious types who killed the server.

Tune always seemed like a reasonable guy to me, took me into Apex after the rebellion was in shambles, I came as a package deal with Bestow that fell through, well he let me stay and I appreciate that, had a good time slayin some dragons with him. Not sure why everyone hates on Frank but I didnt play on classic/kunark/early velious.

Whoa, whoa, put down the gun. Throwing a well deserved needle does not define how i perceive the powerful Takyn wholly. Our best adventure was on a Devnoob box. I think that your strengths are best realized on a fast paced short-season PVP based server.
I would definitely kill nerds with you in the future and not begrudge your disloyal history. It's ElfQuest, pal, we all make consolations to play with each other. I'm far from innocent myself, i've held grudges and berged hard with the best of em.

yea but tbh the good he did FAR outweighed the massive RMT ring he helped run
edit: red would be dead if nihilum didn't pull blubies in to red to RMT them a full set of gear giving us people to kill WAY earlyer than it did.

I gotta hand it to the dudes rolling on RoZ and other "other" boxes these guys really like the game and are not playing for pixel hoards and bring a unique perspective the normal servers they later play on. A lot of everquest is building up an invenotory of plat or gear to have forever but people on these other emulator boxes are playing for fun and they know that pixels aren't like a lifetime investment.
So, I respect you dudes and wish you well though I won't be playing.

I think a single example can determine alot:
That time Tune sat at a zoneline for 18 hrs waiting for Gongshow to login to harmtouch him for a YT for 'street cred'...and basically no one cared but 5 other people who were basically smoking his dick for pixels.
Vrs
Going 1v1 infront of the whole server at prime time (Gongshow v Whoever that guy from Epidemic).
Plus yeah, Tune helped alot of people, but it was all self interested to keep the zerg rollin'. We're all guilty of self interested helping of other's though.
I admittedly think Tune plays his role perfectly, as we're all roleplaying and I am happy for Frank that he got to raid the server for aslong as he did, a crazier man then most of us that is for sure because Velious was a fucking terrible gross expansion after the 3rd or 4th clear of NToV.
Gotta pay respect to any man that ran a Velious guild full of autistic pixel fiends for aslong as he did even when the server was basically dead, the drive/addiction that must have taken.
I hope he plays Red99 2.0, as all previous players. Server's need their villians and good guys.
