View Full Version : Losing motivation... suggestions?

I'm a 29 shaman on teal right now and honestly I've been soloing probably the last 5 levels which has been fine but slow and i'm getting kind of bored. I sort of want to go back to grouping but I don't know if I have the motivation to grind. My main issue is this - I know at 50 basically all there will be to do is lower guk, sol b, or farm random names. A lot of the content that really excites me isn't going to be out till kunark... which is a year away.

I kinda get what they were going for with the time gated release, but I feel sort of uninterested in the lack of level 30+ content. At the same time, I really want to be part of the green/teal experience. I have been waiting for this server forever, and I wanted to be a part of it because eq in its original form(corpse runs, weaker player characters, and no maps) means a lot to me.

I'm sort of thinking of rolling on mangler for luclin, which I really hate doing so because I hate eq with the massive group bonus, no corpse runs, and op classes. Thoughts/suggestions?

Don't feel bad about taking a break. Getting to 29 this quick is insane.

Just do other stuff until there is more content.

Either take a break or go where nobody goes like permafrost, cazic-thule, sol a, mistmoore. I probably forgot some. Oh some part of najena are also at that level

I'm no expert on EQ but Kurnark introduces some areas where you'll be able to catch up too? So it's not like the end of the world if you're not 50 when it comes out right?

Well, it's a year away and I'm the type of person that LOVES fresh servers. South ro being packed with 60 players and being in groups with all trolls/ogres was one of my favorite experiences. So that's mostly why I feel bad about quitting right now. I like being part of that initial rush.

I felt the same way.
Then I went to highkeep hold,
now I love solo.

Soloing makes me want to quit too. What is it that you feel the most satisfaction doing? Sometimes I used to get too caught up in the race to 50 that I completely forget the reason I’m playing is for enjoyment. And I don’t find playing 20 year old mmos alone that enjoyable. Maybe for an hour occasionally but not much more. I know the mechanics, there’s no mystery. I guess what I’m saying is to make sure you aren’t distracted by things that are unimportant. Identify what you enjoy and do more of that.

I'm not in the running for achievements of any kind, but I did buy all the wolf meat in the Misty Thicket newbie zone and Rivervale, and plan to use it so my gnome mage can run around Grobb using vendors w/o Dark Elf mask or Wolf Form.

Plenty of non "endgame" stuff you can do for fun or to enhance your play experience later, without chasing the EXP dragon or fighting over spawns that maximize exp. I haven't seen anyone selling small wisdom deities yet, or alchemy pots for that matter, you could make it a goal to be the first at either if you want to put yourself on the front lines of "the race."

I was having similar issues before soloing, so it's not just that.

Yeah I mean there’s no easy answer here IMO. The fact of the matter is that EQ classic gameplay is not engaging insofar as the mechanics and fighting go. It’s very simplistic. So it’s easy to get bored of, especially if you’ve leveled up many characters. What keeps me coming back is that the world itself feels more vibrant and alive (in large part due to the danger of death and different faction considerations) than any other MMO. Nothing wrong with being bored though. Take a break for several days and come back when you get the itch again.

Why are you racing to level 50 if you feel this way? Level 29 means you've been grinding several hours a day since launch with no interruption.

This is a dumb post tbh. Go outside an take a walk you cave rat.

you've earned a huge break of just either not playing EQ or just farting around casually in game trying to have fun doing things other than exping

even with a huge break you will likely be 50 before the two month mark leaving months before the planes or alot of the more interesting content is released

you feel compelled to race when you really, dont need to

I made a shaman to play now since grouping has been rough. Maybe I can get to 29 in a week if I ignore people ;D

Grouping was by far faster and less frustrating.

My main character's a ranger though ;D I got to level 10-11 in the first three days since launch, and tried to join groups every single day since that first weekend, and ive been in maybe 2-3, and 2 of those with a new guild I joined and i'm only level 14 tonight. I need to make a solo class bad or im going to go insane.. it is like 10 times harder then I ever could remember leveling anything.

Maybe one thing you can do to have the type fun you want to have is make an alt. Then, you can play whichever character has the most interesting group/solo opportunities at the moment you log in. What class? Teal or Green? Only you can answer these questions...

I'm 10

Though I think all the advice here is great. OP is just struck with FOMO in a way but probably the best thing is to take a break and let other people catch up to you, and then you'll have a better time.

Grouping is more frustrating than soloing in my opinion. I can control my own actions, and blame myself for mistakes. Groups can bring some pretty bad players.
I have had tons of fun in groups, and also the worst experiences. Overall, soloing means a nice even keel, and some fun moments when you pull something stupid off.
So. Level 29 in two weeks? Man, that is pretty hardcore, even if you didnt neckbeard it all the way to 40+ like some people.
Bottom line, not having fun, play a different game.

Just take some time off, OP. Don't feel guilty for needing a break. The server will be here when you're ready to come back, it's not going anywhere.
